Leinster Rugby - 2021/22 - Squad and team news
First topic message reminder :
Leinster Rugby is one of four Branches who are the members (Owners / Constituents) of the IRFU.
Leinster Branch is "owned" by the constituent Clubs, Sections and Affiliated Bodies (e.g. the School & Youths Committees & Referee's Assoc) within the Province. The Representatives of each of these meet monthly as the Executive Committee of Leinster Rugby. Only the AGM of Leinster Rugby has authority above the Executive Committee.
Each Club in Leinster is a registered Sporting Body (NFP status) and Leinster Rugby has a separate registered number as a Sporting Body. The property of Leinster Rugby is held in the names of Trustees elected annually at Leinster Rugby AGM.
in 2019, the IRFU established a property holding company to hold all of the property of the IRFU. Prior to that, all of the property of the IRFU was held in the names of the four IRFU Trustees, again, annually elected at the AGM.
In strictly legal terms, each of the four Provincial bodies are "unincorpoated trusts with tax exempt status as sporting bodies". Old-fashioned but effective structures for the control and preservation of voluntary sporting bodies.
20 Senior Clubs can summon an Extraordinary General Meeting of the IRFU to determine a Resolution proposed by those Clubs. However, nowhere within the IRFU Governing documents are Rugby Clubs defined as "members" of the IRFU.
Notionally, the IRFU is "owned by the Clubs", but indirectly through the four Provincial structures.

And there’s the try bonus point possibly. Butler has gone for captain’s challenge.

Try given. Byrne converts. And Butler has to go off with injury.

Perfect kick pass very flat by Ross Byrne takes out the Connacht defensive line. Cuan Keleher catches and races in to score against his old team mates. 16-34. HT blows fortunately for the men in green. What a start and what a comeback.

URC Season 2021-22 starts here
Leinster 17-3 against the Bulls at half-time.
Good start and then retreated into mistakes, fumbles and lots of less than fruitful kicking.
Porter doing ok in his first start at loosehead but had a HIA check for a while.

Well, that was a very inept performance by the Bulls, scrum poor, breakdown poor, support running poor, handling poor.

Won't disagree. Leinster still quite sloppy at times and looked a bit rusty.

A strong series of games for Ireland this past month, some knocks for key players (jgp, sexton, ryan), others coming off strong displays.
These next 5 games for Leinster will be key for Leo Cullens season. The season won't be won in these weeks, however it could definitely be put out of reach. What are peoples thoughts for Ulster match at RDS on Saturday night (a late late kick off time).

One thing I like about the URC is it is giving teams a good workout before the European games with most getting strong key games.
As sad as it is to admit it is Ulster and Connacht will challange Leinster more than Munster as they will test the Leiinster Defence where as Munster just give an arm wrestle which Leinster do in their sleep.
Hopefully Munster get better at running from their 2 week high altitude training.

Leinster/IRFU have re-signed Furlong for another 3 years until end of 24/25 season. Great news.

Leinster up by 2 converted tries against Edinburgh at the RDS. Scrappy enough game with Leinster not able to put get the reward for their dominance. Even a yellow card for a head on head tackle by Edinburgh had their defence on top for most of the required 10 min sun bin. Further Leinster attacks petered out with passes going astray and snappy defending from the Scotsmen.
Difficult to tell if decreasing energy levels and respective benches will make a difference in second half.

A third try for Leinster from Abdaladze crashing over after repeated drives to the line. Ross misses conversion.
19-0 on 69 mins.

And the bonus - dodgy? - try goes to Deegan who looked like he did reach the live but a two hand shuffle barely edges it over. Hmm.
Hmm.
26-0 and 7 minutes to go.

Edinburgh get one back with a beautiful worked pass to Edinburgh 11 who shows his pace and jinks to score. He converts his own try.
26-7.

Felipe might be heading back to Argentina.... if true that will shake up the coaching ticket.
Anybody got any ideas on the type of candidate that could freshen things up?
