Can't see Wales winning this given the way they're playing but Ireland don't look up to much themselves.
Can't see too much in the way of tactics, either. A gruelling game of rugby where mistakes and individual genius is likely to decide who wins. Ireland's greater accuracy and cynicism makes them favourites for me.

Match thread 2
It's sad Jones has moved onto trying to get pens reversed etc. Doesnt stick out that he used to do that earlier in his career.

Carre struggling again with a shorter tight head. Worrying.

Good to hear the crowd being respectful of the kickers for a change in this fixture though

Ireland got away with that restart. Pom off his feet straight away.

It's so quick for Ireland. Too much naivety, not enough numbers to gang tackle them and slow down their gang carries.

Re: Wales v Ireland ANC Match Thread
That's the difference Tipuric makes. He can't do it all on his own though. The defence looks shocking.

Raynal getting 'help' from Sexton. Feeling guilty for giving a penalty against the home team...

Re: Wales v Ireland ANC Match Thread
Bit of a mess at the breakdown so far. Wales getting away with quite a bit! A lot of the structure has just disappeared from their game. Not just set pieces but restarts breakdown. Seem a bit lost.
Irelands attack looks great. Just losing put on that last pass. Need a bit of composure.

POM actually thought he could go toe-to-toe with AWJ, his mates had to come on and make sure he didn’t get hurt.
I got Raynal confused with someone else, I don’t remember him from any of the previous fixtures between Wales and Ireland. He’s very pedantic on Wales so far.

Ireland clearly confident they have Wales on the rops in both the tight and phase play. Can''t disagree.

Hes being pretty consistent. Missing a bit but those breakdowns are war zones at the moment. Important carre needs to paint a better picture at the scrum.

There's a match thread, boys. You might have missed it. It clogs up national team threads if you post stuff like this. Best come join us over here. Otherwise it looks like you're ignoring it deliberately... https://www.606v2.com/t69832-autumm-nations-cup-round-1-match-threads-ire-v-wal-ita-v-sco-eng-v-geo-fra-v-fiji

Re: Wales v Ireland ANC Match Thread
Unlucky. First good scrum, turned it over, then turned back over. Wales look clueless about getting to and securing the breakdown, in attack and defence. Severe lack of urgency.

Re: Wales v Ireland ANC Match Thread
Also, if I could sum this Welsh team up, it's like a club side trying to play test rugby. They look second rate at too many things. A bit like Scotland under Townsend - some basic parts of the game almost seem optional.

Ireland just starting to dominate here. Jones needs to get hold of them and just ask for discipline. If they continue youd just imagine a yellow is entering the refs head.

The early fisticuffs make sense now.
Wales do not look like a team that came out believing they could win this game.
Dire. Second rate. Uncompetitive.

Big blow having sexton come off but Burns is a good player. Probably better than his brother was when being capped by england.

It's still early days but if we see nothing tonight - no fight back, no area of skill or dominance - then Pivac is a dead man walking. He did exactly this at the Scarlets, months and game after game of dross. It happened on several occasions as well. He won't get the time at test level.

Yeah definitely, two of the same penalties in a row at the scrum is a shocker. It’s what we expected from Wales though, poor attack and defence, too many penalties.

Good come back there though mikey. Sometimes a small thing can lead to that swing. Wales need something at the moment. Perhaps just get to half time and get some oxygen and calm heads.

Even on the back foot like this, a running 10-12 axis would give Wales a shot.
Watkin and Biggar offer nothing.

Great wide defence but the Welsh pack is getting manshamed in every area.

Re: Wales v Ireland ANC Match Thread
1 step forward 2 back at the scrum. After defending the ref (I always give the benefit) his looseness at the breakdown is giving the go ahead for some heavy cleapruts WR are trying to get rid of.

I wouldn't even give them that. They held out for, what, 5 phases? The speed and power makes this just a non contest. It's embarrassing.

Scrum and forwards in general has gone backwards. It wasn’t amazing before but it wasn’t this bad. Humphreys might be gone before the 2 years is up.

Re: Wales v Ireland ANC Match Thread
There's literally no area this Welsh team can hang their hat. No 'back to basics' area. Defence poor. Aerial game poor. Crashball not an option. Penalty count is ridiculous. And running game? Hasn't existed since Henson and Shanklin were playing together.
Wales look like a team that is drowning. Every area, every aspect, they're getting dominated.
They're doing well to only be 10 points down. This could be a hammering.

Had that been a try it would have summed Wales up.
Carre off. Right call. He's just too tall.

Big call, Wyn Jones on for Carre. Carre shouldn’t take all the blame for our scrum. Poor from the coaches.

Yeah, there we go. The difference Wyn Jones makes.
Honestly, 10 points down is a good result for Wales.

Sometimes you have to bite the bullet but hes a young guy who has a lot of potential. So close to half time you think a risk for longer term could be taken? Some guys never come back to from being subbed first half. Hope the coaches and senior players are just having a quiet word of reassurance.

So many off side by Wales, Ireland just seem to be too good all over the field at the moment.
Let's hope Wales can pull some thing out of the bag, and make a better game of it in the second half.

He didn't look happy when he came off. Pretty embarrassing to be subbed like that with the coaches clearly just not having the confidence in you.
Ref had told AWJ that he was on a warning having conceded two penalties in quick succession so it could have been the coaches were worried that if the scrum went down the ref would assume it was him and if he was in the ref's mind as someone conceding penalties there could have been a card risk.

Nice to see Ireland knowing what they want to do in attack. Hope they keep it up but it looks very much like the four weeks is finally get some new things coming off.
Wales though are making it seem better than it is.
