RIP Christophe Dominici
Reports that Chritophe Dominici has passed away suddenly at the age of 48. A sad loss and much too young.
A fantastic winger who belied his small stature to become a player who excelled from the amateur era and into the professional one. Whilst 8 years from 1999 to 2007 might not be a long time in some ways in rugby terms it was an eternity for the games development having just turned pro. It speaks volumes of Dominici therefore that he was a part of the French teams who upset New Zealand in 1999 and 2007.
5 Top 14 titles with Stade Francais. 4 Six Nations titles, with 2 Grand Slams. Featured at 3 Rugby World Cups. 67 caps and 25 tries.
A player who I always found a pain to watch when in the opposition but a joy to watch as a neutral.
From that famous 1999 RWC game when France upset New Zealand we have now lost both number 11s far too early in Lomu and Dominici.
Rest in peace Christophe.

Genuinely shocked and a great loss. Seems he had his own share of problems and I dearly hope that they have not contributed to this.

It is just such a shame when these things happen. I am sure there was help there for him if he had been abler to ask for it.
Such a talismatic player, he will be missed but not forgotten for the way he dragged France back into that epic semi final match against NZ.

Re: RIP Christophe Dominici
Just tragic.
Perhaps a discussion for a different place but I thought a new edition of the Editors' Code was published in 2016 which sought to limit the use of excessive detail of the method used in these situations to prevent 'simulative acts'. There is a caveat with the media's right to report legal proceedings but I must say I'm slightly surprised the BBC have reported on the specifics of the potential cause of death on the basis of "police sources say". As said though a discussion for a different thread.
For now I will just say that Dominici was a brilliant player and by most accounts a thoroughly decent man. As always in these situations it is truly horrible that he was suffering to that extent and it came to this.
As Samo recently said in the covid-19 community thread, if anyone is ever struggling I'm always here to chat through the private message function. Take care 606ers.

What dreadful dreadful news. I always remember watching him and hoping that every time "Le Crunch" came around that his name wasn't on the French team sheet. He was such a nightmare to play against, which is often one of the best accolades a player can have. Fabulous to watch him.
A sad, sad loss.
