Peter O'Mahony receives three-match ban - Should have been 12 weeks...
BBC wrote:
The committee found that the Ireland player's actions amounted to "reckless contact with the head" and found that the entry point was mid-range, which carries a six-week suspension.
However, the fact there were no off-field aggravating factors as well as the player's record and conduct in the hearing, O'Mahony received a 50% reduction of sanction in mitigation.

Are they joking, halved because of his RECORD... Its not the first time he's done this and it wont be the last. On his record, the ban should have been doubled.

Citing hearings are a joke. Because of the previous, it certainly shouldn’t be halved.
Same as Liam Williams shouldn’t have had a reduction for remorse.

Dirty player, should be maximum penalty. Don't need this in our game anymore, especially when parents are already stopping their kids playing the game.

Does anyone have a link to the committee record/hearing/etc? I'm curious who were on the committee making this judgment.

Not seen the full set of notes but Mike Hamlin (Eng), Frank Hadden (Scot) NS Val Toma (Romania).

Definitely a red card but it's not like eye gouging or something, these things can happen in rugby without the player being a total thug. He was overly pumped up and went in with reckless technique but I don't think he was deliberately targeting Francis' head, watch it in real time.
I don't wabt to get into whataboutery but Johnny Williams also clobbered Ringrose with a very high tackle, he came off worse but probably shoould have got at least a yellow. I don't think it was intentional either but in today's game intent is no excuse when you go in with poor technique.
5 weeks for POM is not insignificant anyway. Virtually all bans get halved, that's just the nature of the process.

Whats his actual record for previous upheld bans? The mitigation for good previous is the only dodgy bit in this to my mind.

Was he red carded this season? I thought he was but maybe I'm mistaken

Previous was 2 yellows so dont think you end up in front a panel for that?

He did. He got away with it, for doing exactly the same thing.

Yes I believe he was already on a yellow? Then the second offence was actually a red card offence, but he received a second yellow instead.

Ireland lost the game because of his stupidity and he’s got a 5 week suspension for something that was a bang bang play. He’s a tough competitor and he’s going to do this again because of that. He’s a 2000s player living in a 2020s world.
Some of the yellow and red card decisions nowadays are extremely tough
Yet many on here seem to suggest he should be banned for life “dirty player” etc. he’s tough I give you that but he’s not out there stomping and gouging every week
Next you’ll want a 10 yr prison sentence if he travels without permission

The banning handed to POM from the committee halved is not something weird, most players get weeks off their proposed bans.
It was incredibly reckless and he deservedly got a Red Card and a ban.
For me though, as I have stated before, I would like to see Farrell drop him from the squad for the remaining 6N so as to set an example to others. He could very easily have injured Francis as well as possibly costing Ireland a win.

They have one especially for POM.... its #ShoulderToHead

Francis is a moving target intentionally flopping on the wrong side. It's a red card all day long but it's not intentional thuggery. He's quite lucky to get only three weeks as these tend to be 4-6 after the good boy let off. Be interesting to see if he gets selected again after this.

It's effectively a 5 week ban in terms of "3 meaningful matches"
