Italy v Wales Stadio Olimpico SAT 13 MAR 2021 discussion thread.
First topic message reminder :
Italy v Wales
14:15
Venue: Stadio Olimpico
I thought I might as well get this started, what are we expecting ? Mass changes for Wales ? A surprise Italian win ? Wales need to win this at a canter to show that other results were not down to luck or bad refereeing.
I hope Wales stick to the same starting 15, just to keep the momentum going for the final game.
Wales team to face Italy: Liam Williams; Louis Rees-Zammit, George North, Jonathan Davies, Josh Adams; Dan Biggar, Gareth Davies; Wyn Jones, Ken Owens, Tomas Francis, Cory Hill, Alun Wyn Jones, Josh Navidi, Justin Tipuric, Taulupe Faletau.
Replacements: Elliot Dee, Rhys Carre, Leon Brown, Jake Ball, Aaron Wainwright, Lloyd Williams, Callum Sheedy, Uilisi Halaholo
Italy: Jacopo Trulla; Mattia Bellini, Juan Ignacio Brex, Carlo Canna, Monty Ioane; Paolo Garbisi, Stephen Varney: Danilo Fischetti, Luca Bigi (capt), Giosue Zilocchi, Niccola Cannone, David Sisi, Sebastian Negri, Johan Meyer, Michele Lamaro.
Replacements: Oliviero Fabiani, Andrea Lovotti, Marco Riccioni, Marco Lazzaroni, Maxime Mbanda, Marcello Violi, Federico Mori, Edoardo Padovani.

Why was Barnes wasted on this complete non-event? Why not give one of the upcoming international referees some experience?
Italy as bad as they've ever been.

Biggar’s ruck entry probably warranted more of a look.

What’s the Italian for “stop the penalties”?

Lucky they didn't - looked like his shoulder hit the Italian 8 on the head when he launched into the ruck off his feet ...

The way the 8's head moved looked like head not shoulder to me ... either way it should have been reviewed but they were so fixated on the upright tackle they missed the actual offence.

They must’ve looked at it. That possible offence was more obvious in real time, than his tackle.
It was so needless though. Wales don’t need to compete too much. Just let them make their mistakes.

I don't see how they can have looked at it as you can't launch yourself shoulder first into a ruck and not get at least a pen these days ... not that it would make any difference to this match as Wales would probably still win with only 10 men on the pitch.

It’s literally one of Adams’ first actions to ground the ball, that’s a BS call.

Chalk one off to feel sorry for them, never seen a clearer try scored. Oh well, retribution for the England game.

I seen the ball grounded. That’s a pretty clear law.

We all saw the ball grounded. Just that he had his foot in touch first. Bit sloppy as he's obviously an excellent finisher.

What Mikey is saying is that he thought Adams grounded it initially when he first went over, not the later grounding after he had slid out.

Oh sorry. Didn't realise I had to comment on that. Good by Barnes to ask the tmo to review. Good decision.

Why accuse him of not knowing the rules then? It makes no sense to your comment if your thought Mikey was talking about grounding the ball before sliding out as that is the most basic of rules.

Mikey, that’s your second post deleted in two days. Last warning. No need for pointless generalisations.

Correct decision for the YC. Couldn't see the previous possible Italian offence as there was no close-up replay. Not reviewing Biggar's ruck entry was an error. The call on the original tackle was correct. Try was difficult to see tbh but looked like he may have cradled the ball with his arms underneath at the start which I guess led to the TMO decision but I couldn't be sure either way.

Why would that be deleted when it’s what happened? Two posters clearly doing it. Don’t recall having another post being deleted, first I’ve heard of it. Don’t recall any action taken against posters getting threads closed this week either, bit awkward.

Mikey if you're having a dig at me for questioning the Biggar ruck entry it's because it's a an area that's had a lot of focus recently so was worthy of a look - I don't think saying Wales would still win with 10 men can be classed as being 'anti-Welsh' ...

Jonathan Davies has been poor with ball in hand today. A few poor passes messing up promising attacks and a terrible chip now straight to the Italian player.

I stopped watching after half time.
Italy have not put in any decent breaks/or attacks. It is just like a training game for Wales,

Well done Wales. Credit where its due, its looking a well balanced squad with Pivac showing faith in North when Welsh fans were clamouring for his head and bringing in new players and giving them decent game time.
One thing, LRZ is forcing Gats & Co to have no choice but to select him for the Lions tour, maybe even in the test 15.

I know Navidi had MOM yesterday and he did put in a massive shift, but for me, Cory Hill was the best player on that pitch. He was everywhere, and he was solid in the line out.
