First topic message reminder :
Siraj will have a couple of deliveries at Anderson. The lead is already a nice 25.

Jadeja and Rhoit are both batsmen that will take a more cautious approach to batting in these conditions under these circumstances. England will have to work hard to get either out.
Fantastic start though and has really put England in a great position

That is why I said think.
Certainly counting no chickens. Anyway still have to get one of these two... And they are both playing sensible cricket : pretty restrained but looking for singles .
Need to keep bowling these good lines.

That was a really ugly innings from Rohit, ending in ungainly fashion. Has he been taking lessons from Sibley?
It's the end of Buttler's run of catches. 67/6. Under 125 should be the aim.

Oh dear ! Rohit will be furious with himself ...
All that concentration and he's thrown it away toe ending a pull straight to mid on !
Deserved wicket for Overton though.
And he's got Shami first ball

Overton with the biggest strike of the day as he gets Rohit!
India set to be rolled for under a hundred!.
Probably, not the worst thing that could happen at this stage, perhaps they will be able to get just that little bit from the conditions, and get 2 or 3 out before stumps today, and probably, restrict the lead to around 250!

Lovely stuff. I was about to say Anderson is saved for the tail, but now Overton's on a hat-trick and India are in a complete mess.
And nearly the hat-trick with Sharma almost falling over. Keep 'em below 100 and win the game on opening day.

Under 100 should be the aim... That was some good stuff from Overton - the attempt at a hat trick ball was pretty good and Ishant did well to keep it out.
Now this is where Root must continue to get it right . As Sam gets Jadeja ...

Re: England's Summer of Cricket 2021
Rohit by the way, yet again falling to a short ball. Not your conventional short ball, But Rohit should have let that go! After improving his test game so brilliantly, he steadfastly refuse to bring some common sense into his dealing with the short ball. Yes its his shot, usually he plays it well. But 3 times in 3 tests, he has given it away playing an unnecessary shot. Twice in during crisis situations, once when they had the foundations to bat England out of the game...

This test is over. Mind you, Aussies probably thought the same thing two years ago when they bowled England out for 67.

Re: England's Summer of Cricket 2021
The frustrating thing is if England bowled like this on day five of the last test they'd have won the game. Instead they sunk to India's low-level of wanting a barroom brawl and paid the price.
We'll let Root off that review.

Re: England's Summer of Cricket 2021
Four gone for nothing in six balls. Crazy stuff...
Siraj got an edge to prevent the hat trick. Pretty clear , that was ; but don't mind Root taking the review just for theatre.
Sam will be happy to have grabbed some scalps : he threatened a bit early on , I thought , without any luck in getting an edge.
Now they'll want to make sure they bag this last wicket without any nonsense...

England not ruthless enough? Why not Anderson? Sam and Overton have had double wicket overs and all, but you wouldn't want to give the opposition on the mat any chance. Bring back your best bowler and finish the job.

Hasn't caught leg byes yet though
Good to see proper tail end swinging from these two. Stand worth 11 now ...and that will be it thanks . Well caught by Root
Three for Overton and Duty's predicted Indian Batting Collapse has come to pass...
Now can England do anything with the bat ?

Re: England's Summer of Cricket 2021
I've had a busy morning at work so have only just got the game on my tablet. I checked the score at lunch and was delighted with 4 down. Then I turned it on 20 minutes ago to see Curran take two in two. Brilliant pick me up!
And that's it all over for 78 with Root taking a good catch in the slips of Overton.
Burns and Hameed have a brilliant opportunity to put a partnership on here.

Re: England's Summer of Cricket 2021
I have a feeling Joe Root will be batting only to build the England lead! All known stable things have been out of the window other than the batting capabilities of the Indian lower order. So it should be entirely reasonable that the English top order will for once, give the skipper a bit of a platform to work with.
India do have a collapse of this magnitude in them every away series, list time it was at the HQ on a really difficult session and a bit of batting, this time, the collapse has been even more horrible, and in demanding, but by no means impossible batting conditions. All of the top order played poor shots to get out, they forgot what brought them so far in the series. It was top order discipline. Rahul went back to his crisis self and started it, and there was no correction really, from anyone bar Rohit, before he typically self-destructed. What a fall from the high-points of last week...

Long way to go in this game but not sure how people didn't see this happening at some point, the first two tests have flattered an Indian batting line up who can cope in English conditions.

Re: England's Summer of Cricket 2021
Really good stuff from England, an all-round effort from the four seamers. It's a good batting pitch, but there's been plenty of swing for the England bowlers to work with and some of India's dismissals were dismal.
From here it's simple - get 300+ and win the game. No pressure of time or opposition runs, so a golden opportunity for some of England's struggling batsmen.

My pre-match pessimism appearing totally ill founded.
Well, Carlos, England may not have won this Test yet but India have gone a long way towards losing it.

If England can get to 100 - 2 by the close of play then it will be an amazing day for them.
It was a decent bowling performance but the English bowlers were really helped out by some inept shot selection from the Indian Batters.

Only four instances of a team batting first, being bowled out for 78 or fewer and going on to win the test. All four were pre World War One.
Sharma has started off with Mitchell Johnson 2010 in mind.

On a side note it was so important that Anderson wasn't needed after that initial eight over burst, it should allow him to bowl at full tilt in the second innings.
