Slaughter of the effeminates 2021/22 edition. Part 1 27/12/21
Scotstoun 1900hrs kickoff 27th December 2021
The once and future champions are at home in the first instalment of this years slaughter. Although it has been a while since anyone was actually slaughtered. Or even a decent episode of handbags has broken out. Think it will be different this year though. Lots of very even matchups and 6 n spots up for grabs.
Regardless, recent results for both teams are making me hopeful of a good open game with actual tries and passing. I live in hope.
Edinburgh fresh from European success against Saracens will be confident of a result no doubt , however they will be met with fierce resistance from an improving Glasgow.
Match ups all over the pitch will make this a must watch.
Front rows, ooft two converging packs of rhinos fighting over the last patch of grass can’t wait to see Fagerson v Schoeman and Kebble v Nel
Mish v The prodigal son is going to be a cracker. Will the young gun get one over on his mentor?
Dempsey v Bradbury . Dempsey is on fire just now and Bradbury is going to get smoked. Or at least badly charred.
Will be interesting to see how Price goes against Vellacott. For me Vellacott is hot on price’s heels and gunning for a 6 N spot.
Johnson and Tuipuloto matched against Bennett and Lang another fascinating match. Think the Glasgow boys have the edge there.
Back three , again it will be a real battle of wheels with some very rapid operators on both sides. Any loose kick to McKay and he will be off. Same with Darcy.
All in all, a very tasty contest in store. COVID permitting.

Covid permitting, these are two teams who have had a couple of good performances on the trot and who seem as fully fit as they are going to be. Across the starting 15's, the next two games could determine starting spots and also rans.
Locks will be fun with R Gray, Gilchrist and Sykes/Hodgson slugging it out to be the next man up for Scotland behind J Gray, Cummings and Skinner.
The only positions that look like they might not have an even contest on paper is HK and FH which are definitively for Glasgow. The subs bench is in Edinburgh's favour but even that is not as clear cut as it once was. Going to be fun

Heur, well done on the thread.
It looks like it should be a cracker (see what I did there?) But as we all know the expected Rayleigh Chopper all too often turns out to be a tinned Fray Bentos steak and kidney pie.
For the rugby club: Batman- Miller- Mullet BigbadBob subbing would be a cracking back row. The reality is ONE of them will make the bench.
The Luvvies may have forgotten that hubris is followed by Nemesis. So they'll play Blarehorn at 10 and Ross the Wonder Kid will put him back in his box.
As long as it's not a pie in a tin it'll be hearty fare. For the rugby club that is.

Was struggling with Hazel’s assertion that the Edinburgh bench will be stronger.
Not in the front row, where Bhatti Mathews and Piretto are defo a stronger trio than the Edinburgh one. Second row not sure, evens I’d say. Back row depends on who Glasgow bench but advantage Edinburgh. Half backs, no contest, Glasgow all the way. Back three/ centre again it depends but Glasgow will have McLean or Canciellere missing out both international players, so I would say say there is an argument to say that Glasgow is stronger there.
Regardless, if the weather plays ball, it should be an open exciting game with Glasgow easing away in the last 20 mins as the Buckie and mince pies kick in
My own Glasgow 15
Kebble Turner Fagerson
Gray Cummings
Fagerson Dempsey Darge
Price
Thompson
Johnson Tuipuloto
Forbes. McKay. Steyn

Will push back on the bench. It is closer than I initially thought, though I think Edinburgh edge it if McLean is not ready to go.
Bhatti vs Venter - Glasgow (no contest)
Matthews vs Cherry - Edinburgh (comfortable enough, Cherry has gotten capped)
Pieretto vs Atalifo/De Bruin - Wash or Edinburgh if De Bruin is about (I don't rate Pieretto and think Atalifo gets underrated)
McDonald/BBB vs Hodgson/Sykes - Edinburgh just (Hodgson impressed me during the AI's)
Gordon/Miller/Wilson vs Haining/Crosbie - Edinburgh just (Closer than it used to be, great to see it is all Scots competing for the 6N as well)
G Horne/Dobie vs Pyrgos - Glasgow (no contest)
Weir vs VDW - Wash (both borderline 4th choice)
McLean/McDowall/Grigg/Cancelliere vs Hutchison/Immelman - Glasgow if McLean is fit, otherwise Edinburgh have a good duo to choose from

Re: Slaughter of the effeminates 2021/22 edition. Part 1 27/12/21
Suspect it will be Miotti and not Weir at 22. Both international 10’s. Both better than VDW, an average club player who has been displaced by a winger/ fullback who cannot get a game for Scotland and is still learning his lines as a club 10.
Front rows are a unit and I would say from what I’ve seen at scotstoun this year Glasgow’s second string is settled and better than Edinburghs.
I would rather be Danny Wilson looking at his bench with 20 mins to go and needing to pull something out the bag, especially in the backs.

Re: Slaughter of the effeminates 2021/22 edition. Part 1 27/12/21
Edinburgh have had a week off prior to this game, which could be a good or a bad thing, Glasgow have had two really physical matches, so you would imagine that they will be doing a bit of rotation over these two games.
It will be interesting as to what sort of a team we do put out. I would like to see what Miotti can do and Canceilliere has not had much of a chance as well. Both probably deserving of a bit of game time, as is Dobie.

Lots of chirpy weegies on here - I'm guessing it was giro day. Usually this level of smack talk leads to one thing - Edinburgh humiliating the great unwashed.
Either way I hope they are entertaining spectacles - too often these are really drab affairs. With Blair now in charge I'd say we have a good chance.
I also can't call it - in most years one team or the other has been on some kind of form so we at least have a hint before the games, whereas this year both teams are looking good.
I can see both home teams getting the win, but really who the feck knows!
Also, all this chat of Glasgow's forwards bench being stronger than Edinburgh our under 17s team would make more of an impact than Rob Harley and Ryan Wilson!

Been out in that hot antipodean sun without a hat again Flounder?
Remember, Slip Slap Slop. As the say in Sydney. No tigertattie it is not the title of an Aussie sex manual.
Blair will try to show the world that he is more Toonie than Toonie and play The Fastestess Rugby In The Whole World. The Luvvies will be found out. I hope DW goes in for some squad rotation and brings in; Dobie, Miotti, Cancilliere and Titman.
9. House Elf
10. Meatball/Miotti
12. Stafford
13. Sqiggsy
11. Titman
14. Cancillieri
15. Tangive
Probably none of them will start, but look at the wealth of talent we have now.
11. Titman

Nice thread Heuer. Indeed, the giros have been cashed and the mescaline purchased - bring on a good game. I presume the Glasgow tactic will be to wear their white strip and hide in the Dickensian fog.
As Large Gee has correctly pointed out, there's no way Glasgow can put a full first team out without patching them with sticky tape and freebasing vanilla tablet first. The bespoke tailoring brigade can, however, and this will gave them an advantage.

I think not GC. The Perfumed Ones are too full of themselves for my liking. Blarehorn an international stand off!!! whatever next? Pritti Patel retraining as an Empathy Counsellor?

Ach it’s a pity that I will not be able to see the man shaming in person, now that we’ve been kiboshed.
Will have to watch it sipping a cheeky wee tonic wine and some monster munch appetisers.
It will now be like a home game for Edinburgh with only 500 folk allowed into the stadium.
Don’t think DW will rotate too much unless he has to,certainly the players would want to be on the pitch I would imagine.
Double heartache for me because my hospitality has also been cancelled

Absurd
I can’t believe that sturgeon actually read Jimbo’s letter let alone acted on it.
“Dear Nic
Look, Glasgow are going to get humped (as usual) by Edinburgh over the festive season. This is something I nor any of my fellow soap dodgers wish to witness in person and seeing Mr Saville can’t fix things for the underprivileged these days, can you please step up and fix it for me not to have to attend the rented sports ground that Glasgow call “home”?
Best wishes
Jimbo
Aged 56 and a half”
So there. It’s not covid. Jimbo asked wee Nic to save the unwashed from the humiliation in the flesh.
Oh well. Guess we’ll just need to listen on the wireless

Except from an interview with one of Glasgow's favourite sons - Chris Fusaro
After so long at the coalface, Fusaro is enjoying being a fan. His new professional focus is as part of the family business, Luvians

Here's a post from Disco the stats guru.
Between 2016 and 2021, Nick Grigg tallied 170 defenders beaten for Glasgow in the URC/PRO14/PRO12 - 56 more than any other Glasgow player in that time.
Nick's 7 tries in 2017/18 are the most scored in a season by a Glasgow centre.
It's a shame he won't have a proper send off from the warrior Nation. Still maybe he'll finish off a couple of tries against the Perfumed Ones next week. realistically, his future employers have probably nixed that.

Advantage Glasgow looking at the team selections - it very much looks like we've had a Covid outbreak in camp, otherwise that's a horrendous injury list.
We've got plenty dog in the starting XV though and that back row contest is going to be huge.
Really not convinced by our halfbacks - pyrgos has had a bit of a renaissance this season but VDW is very much lacking match fitness and sharpness.

Hanky Bannister? Is this a youth culture reference?
Or what Bron says to Tyrion after he disturbs the wee man indulging in the solitary vice?

Not the most well known whisky i know, but it does have a very catchy name and is a very decent blend
I was introduced to as my dad was dying by one of his old pals, who used to order it by the crate and he ended up giving me a bottle.
It's become a sentimental tipple for me at this time of year.
I did of course move on to the 18 year old Glen Goyne, that the kids got me for xmas last night!
One of the joys of your kids growing up is thst they stsrt to get you better presents!
And no, i have not got a clue what the Burma reference is about. It needs an educated man like Jimbo to work that one out!

Ha, just like the average attendee at Scotstoun it's as far from educated as you could get! It's a TV reference if that helps anyone narrow it down.

Top gear specials are indeed as far from fully firing synapses as three upper middle class white men can get, apart from when they drool all over their favourite Pritti Patel Polaroids.
Glasgow by an awful lot of points tomorrow.

Top marks for Jimbo! (Hopefully there was no cheating).
It's from the Top Gear Burma special - they were drinking Hanky Bannister while building a bridge over what they thought was the River Kwai (seriously).
Up until now I'd just assumed it was an Asian whisky - you stand me corrected Biggee!

Well I am quite proud to say i am no fan of Clarkson and Top Gear, so I would not have got that in a month of Sundays.

I'm with Big Gee.
Clarkson has a personal car reg of TO 55 ER, and his weekend run around is W4 NKER.
I think it'll be a spirited 1872 game, but the Glasgow tight 5 and half backs should boss it.
I hope Darge, Watson and Bradbury play well, but come through unscathed

So, front rows Advantage Glasgow, this will be a massive advantage on the hour mark when the Luvvies bring on the work experience kids.
Second row, advantage Glasgow. Luvvies have two promising big lumps but Ritchie and Cummings will school them. Actually 17-20 on the Luvvies bench look like they could be auditioning for a remake of The Inbetweeners.
Back row Big collisions forecast and too difficult to call. The Rugby club will bring on the Mullet and the Luvvies will bring on Who???
Half backs, not even close. British Lions 9 against Henners? Ross The Wonder Kid against someone who can't get picked ahead of Blarehorn?
Centres, close but no cigar. Seaman will be all over the faded Messiah and Johnson will continue his fine run of form. Then Lord Stafford will return late on and put the Luvvies to the sword.
Back Three, guess what? Advantage Glasgow. Oh you poor, poor eastcoasters. You really will be watching from behind the sofa and whimpering for nanny. No tigertattie that is not a metaphor. Well, not the metaphor you're thinking off. You naughty, naughty boy.
I'm looking forward to this evening. Hopefully we can run up enough points to allow us to rest most of the team for the return leg. Big european games coming up, you know. Or probably not.

The game's a bogey.
it seems that Glasgow have had an outbreak of Covid (a new virus you may not have heard of) among the players.
that's Christmas ruined. Ruined I say.

‘Twas Glasgow who called the game off. Ran away scared.
I’ve spoken to my Welsh friend and this does qualify for a moral victory.

You are the Allegra Stratton of 606.
There are more lies there than in Boris Johnson's wedding vows (a laminated copy of which he keeps in his inside pocket just in case the opportunity arises).
Glaswegians never run from a fight.
You have no friends.
The Welsh would never stoop to claiming moral victories, so refuse to even discuss them.

I’ve actually stopped caring jimbo.
Feck knows what the answer is but the world just can’t shake this covid thing. Even with all our scientific know how and Boris leading the way. Oh wait
Well, I think the answer is to jab the whole feckin world, at the same time, but Israel want to jab their guys 168 times before anyone else is given any surplus.
Problem we have is that it’s frowned upon to make the vaccine mandatory and there will always be people who, as is their right, refuse to get the jab. They won’t take their tin foil hats off when entering a public building either. There’s also many a person who has no opinion on the jab one way or the other but they are simply too lazy to go get jabbed.
If this happened during uncle albert’s time, every man woman and their dug would have been jabbed by now
