Feb/March 2022 Tournaments
First topic message reminder :
F A-A has beaten Murray and Cameron Norrie on successive days to reach the semis in Rotterdam. He's doing really well.
Djoko is expected to be back in action soon. Be interesting to see crowd reaction when he plays.
While Murray may soon not need WCs into the big events, the whole use of them can be questioned after what happened in a match in women's qualifying in Dubai today. Kuwait's Sarah Behbehani, with no ranking, was given a WC and played Britain's Harriet Dart.
Dart won in just 28 mins 6-0, 6-0, with her opponent winning FOUR POINTS. I don't know if this is some sort of a record but it's clear from the stats that this Kuwaiti girl should not have been on court.

Medvedev powered through the second set 6-1 and moves 1 win from reclaiming the top ranking.
Great win for Sinner as Kyrgios has been on a real hot streak.

Alcaraz came from 2-5 down in the first set to beat Tsitsipas 7-5 6-3. The Spaniard is a special talent. As for Tsitsipas he seems more hype than substance.
Kecmanovic came after a set down to beat Indian Wells champion Fritz 3-6 6-1 6-4

Not great fare for Miami fans today. A total of just 10 games played in the first two singles, with Badosa and Sinner having to retire.

Iga Swiatek marches on, 15th consecutive win for the Pole, as she beat Petra Kvitova 6-3 6-3. Swiatek didn’t even have to face a BP.

Good win for Ruud who took out Zverev in three.
Must say I thought Zverev would be a driving force this season. But he and Tstitsipas have been fairly average. In contrast, the likes of Sinner and Alcaraz are emerging fast.

Apparently Medvedev wasn't in great shape for his match. Reports suggest the Alcatraz match was a very good one.*
Seems to be no stopping Swiatek, although Osaka might manage it in the final - the kind of match-up that the women's game could do with.
Win or lose, Osaka will go up around 40 places.
* Just seen a few highlights of the Alcaraz match. Some terrific rallies and really good atmosphere.

Casper Ruud beat Francisco Cerundolo 6-4 6-1 to reach maiden Masters 1000 final. Ruud’s first final above ATP 250 level. It was one match too far for the Argentine.
Carlitos Alcaraz beat Hurbert Hurkatz 7-6 7-6. Pretty entertaining match when considering Hurkatz is basically John Isner mkii.
Alcaraz second youngest Miami finalist since his idol Nadal.
Backing the Spaniard to take the title.

Bad luck on Medvedev. Obviously a doubt now for the French.
Got to fancy Alcaraz to beat Ruud. Fascinating women's final today between new number one Swiatek and Osaka.

Iga Swiatek dominates and outclasses Naomi Osaka 6-4 6-0 to win WTA Miami 1000. Swiatek didn’t face a single BP. The Pole has now won Qatar, Indian Wells and Miami this season - this is the first time ever anyone has won the first three 1000s in the same season. Swiatek the fourth woman to complete Sunshine double as well.

Swiatek will, of course, take over the number one position on Monday.
I know some have been less than enthralled with the women's game of late/for some time, but IMHO few will argue against the assertion that the Pole is a worthy number one given her performances this year.

Alcaraz took the first set 7-5. Ruud was 3-0 up early but the Spaniard few into the set and came on strong when it mattered.

Carlitos Alcaraz wins Miami Open 7-5 6-4 against Casper Ruud. A brilliant performance from the Spaniard, whom is the third youngest man to ever win an ATP 1000 after Chang and Nadal. The youngest champion ever in Miami.

Re: Feb/March 2022 Tournaments
Andy Murray forecast some time ago that Alcaraz was a future number one.
Well, he'll rise to 11th after his Miami triumph which is amazing considering he's not 19 yet.

Re: Feb/March 2022 Tournaments
Cameron Norrie cracked the top 10 today - a terrific achievement.
There were other notable climbers among GB players. Paul Jubb went up over 60 places after winning a Challenger while Jack Draper took his 4th Challenger title of the season and has gone up to a career-high 124.
Draper is only 20 and has raced up the rankings this season.
