2022 England v New Zealand Tipping Competition
The 2022 England v New Zealand Test Series Tipping Competition Rules:
The Rules:
1.
Pick 2 (two) batsmen and 2 (two) bowlers from both England and New Zealand who you think will score the most runs and take the most wickets.
You get both batting and bowling points per innings so a bowler who scores runs has both batting and bowling scores added together.
e.g.
Root, Stokes, Broad, Anderson
Williamson, Conway, Jamieson, Southee
2.
Pick 1 (one) fielder from each team; excluding wicket keepers for most catches in each match.
It can be a bowler (for c&b) if you want.
e.g.
Pope, Mitchell
3.
Select which wicket keeper will take the greatest number of catches, stumpings and run outs combined for each Test.
If a wicket keeper is injured then the replacement keeper's figures shall be used.
e.g.
England (Foakes) or New Zealand (Blundell) or the same number of dismissals.
4.
Predict the Toss:
a) Who wins the toss?
e.g.
England
b) Winning captain's decision - bat or field?
e.g.
Bat
5.
a) Predict the 1st Test result.
e.g.
England or New Zealand or Draw
Selections must be posted a minimum one (1) hour before the commencement of each Test. No PM reminders shall be sent.
Scoring:
1.
1 point for every run scored by your nominated batsmen. Add together for each Test.
Bonus 25 points for 100 runs.
extra 30 points for 150 runs.
extra 45 points for 200 runs.
extra 60 points for 250 runs.
extra 125 bonus points for 300+ runs.
Note: the batting & bowling score bonuses accumulate so;
Batting: (per innings)
100 runs = 125 points. A player scores 137 runs + 25 = 162 points.
150 runs = 205 points. A player scores 177 runs + 25 + 30 = 232 points.
200 runs = 300 points. A player scores 243 runs + 25 + 30 + 45 = 343 points.
250 runs = 410 points. A player scores 282 runs + 25 + 30 + 45 + 60 = 442 points
300+ runs = 585 points. A player scores 321 runs + 25 + 30 + 45 + 60 + 125 = 606 points.
Bowling: (per innings)
25 points per wicket with a bonus 50 points for a 5-fer.
An extra 30 points for 6-fer, 45 for 7-fer, 60 for 8-fer, 75 for 9-fer.
An extra 100 bonus points for a 10-fer.
5 wickets = 125 points + 50 = 175 points
6 wickets = 150 points + 50 + 30 = 230 points.
7 wickets = 175 points + 50 + 30 + 45 = 300 points
8 wickets = 200 points + 50 + 30 + 45 + 60 = 385 points
9 wickets = 225 points + 50 + 30 + 45 + 60 + 75 = 485 points
10 wickets = 250 points + 50 + 30 + 45 + 60 + 75 + 100 = 610 points
Caught and bowled = 25 points for the wicket + 25 bonus points for the catch = 50 points.
2.
Fielder catches: Your nominated fieldsman earns you 25 points per catch and 25 points for a run out.
3.
Wicket keepers: 50 points for correct selection for most dismissals across both innings.
Or if you think the wicket keepers will take the same number of total dismissals per innings - then nominate "the same" = 50 points.
If they take the same number of catches and stumpings (combined) and you've picked either one of the keepers - then you earn 25 points only.
4.
a) Correctly predict who wins the toss = 25 points
b) Correctly predict what the winning Captain decides to do = 25 points - only for those with part a) above correct; no points if your a) was incorrect.
5.
a) Correctly predict the winning team for each Test match = 125 points.
b) If you guess all 3 Test match outcomes correctly then there is a further 125 point bonus = 375 + 125 = 500 points.
Note: Correctly predict a "Draw" = 125 points
If one (or more) of your selected players gets injured during a match or is dropped from the Test side after a match, then you’ll have the opportunity to select replacement players – either as it happens - for the injured player or before the next Test commences (for a player who gets dropped).
It doesn’t have to be the actual substitute player – it can be somebody else already in the team. However, you don’t receive any of their previous points up until the point of the replacement of the injured player from the field – you must start accumulating points from scratch with them.
*****
June 2-6, 2022: 1st Test at Lord's. England won by 5 wickets (1-0)
June 10-14, 2022: 2nd Test at Trent Bridge. England won by 5 wickets (2-0)
June 23-27, 2022: 3rd Test at Headingley. England won by 7 wickets (3-0)

Hadn’t realised that, Alfie. Whilst desperately trying to hang onto bronze, I can’t seem to make any ground on the top two and had rather given up hope of doing so!

Looks like your lead could narrow (slightly) on the final day with Lowland and Guildford picking an England victory.
I'll need to check if anyone's heading for the clean sweep too.

Guildford clearly been reading his Aesop whilst out there… Reeling in the hare on the last day!
Anyone who has predicted these mad England wins deserves any bonuses and more.

Indeed. Perhaps even Herodotus would have thrown in the towel and dropped his tablet on some of these Day 3s and 4s.
Not Guildford though... as the v2 606 cricket tipping competition history books will show.

If England win , guildford is taking 250 points out of JD and the final result might be down to Southee or Boult's wickets/maidens or Williamson's catches
I see I would also profit from the three result bonus if the home team salutes : but I am too far back to threaten the Big Dogs...

Notes:
Congratulations Guildfordbat! The chickens all came home to roost on the final day! You also got the clean sweep too.
JDizzle once again proved to be a thoroughly fierce competitor and was only pipped at the post by 37 points on the final day.
Alfie also achieved the 3 Test clean sweep and earned a 125-point bonus. (see my post below)
Tino, Lowlandbrit, Alfie and Ollie also performed very well and scored pretty consistently throughout the 3-match series.
That was a scintillating Test Series with a similar pattern evolving for all 3 matches with England finishing well on top in all 3.
Not a long turnaround before the final match v India is rekindled on Friday at Edgbaston. The spreadsheet has been dusted off.
JD is currently leading that one, followed by KP_fan, Duty and James. I hope to see you all again soon!

Sorry for JD and Tino to be pipped at the post having set the pace and led wonderfully only to even more unluckily be overtaken so late.

Oh no! I somehow got carried away with Guildford's success and was side-tracked by your complimentary comments to the eventual winner when I was reading your post above. Of course, you also got the clean sweep, alfie.
3423 points overall and 3rd place. 74 points behind JD and a full Nelson behind Guildford.
England win = 125
Clean sweep = 125
Foakes/Billings = 50
Root = 31 points on top of his 55 points on Day 4
Total = 331 points
Sorry for my omission. I'll fix it up right away.

Commiserations to JD and Tino - though you should have had faith in England
And thanks to PJ : with one complaint/protest (won't affect the final result , I'm glad to say) : I think (I'm sure !) I picked England to win all three Tests so why have I not received the "sweep" bonus ?
Oh no! I somehow got carried away with Guildford's success and was side-tracked by your complimentary comments to the eventual winner when I was reading your post above. Of course, you also got the clean sweep, alfie. 3423 points overall and 3rd place.
England win = 125
Clean sweep = 125
Foakes/Billings = 50
Root = 31 points on top of his 55 points on Day 4
Total = 331 points
Sorry for my omission. I'll fix it up right away.
For the love of god, Pee Jay!
Anyone else want to nudge ahead of me? Anyone got bonus points for predicting both teams to play in white?
My fault, Tino. When I mentioned GB was the 'only one' with the clean sweep... nobody picked it up.
Nothing wrong with your score of 3400. It has a very nice symmetry about it... and adds up to 7.

Truly sorry for raining on your parade , Tino But it isn't often I get a reward for my stubborn refusal to tip against England in the competition !
Perhaps we could be like those two high jumpers and agree to share the bronze medal ?

Nope, it's all yours alfie. You deserved it.
I'll reserve my anger for Pee Jay, and love and admiration for you.

You're making me feel like Gilchrist after his last Adelaide test. I drop a couple of sitters and now I feel I'm not just up to the required standard of tipping comp running and putting the keyboard in the closet under the stairs would be the best thing for me to do... and for us all in the long run.
I see Glenn Maxwell could get 55 years in jail. Oh sorry... that's Ghislaine Maxwell. My ears are now failing me too!

Do I get a prize for scoring a measly 1 on the final day - that really takes some doing. Leach has t-shirts in honour of his Headingly 1*....
Tino - I can claim the opposite to you. Pretty sure I was joint top after day 1 of test 1, and then plummeted like a lead balloon

Yes, Afro, the solitary "1" point on the last day. How do you do it? You do deserve some sort of special prize! A wooden bust of Olly Pope perhaps?
Sometimes a whole clutch of us don't score a point over a session or two (it's happened a few times) but your achievement is right up there.

First is first and the rest of us are also rans, Afro. Just living in GB's dream so finishing where you did matters little. Only GB got his name on carved on the honours board in Pee Jay's kitchen.
Although scoring 1 point takes some doing! Not even sure how that is possible. Surely you get at least one point for both teams turning up. I actually salute you for managing it!
