SURREY VS WARWICKSHIRE LV= COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE 2023

Surrey have named a 13 man squad for the the LV= county championship game against Warwickshire at the Kia Oval starting on Sunday 3rd September.
Kemar Roach has re-signed for the Championship run-in and comes into the squad. New signing Sai Sudharsan also makes the match-day squad.
Gus Atkinson, Sam Curran and Will Jacks are currently away playing for England in a one sided T20 series against New Zealand.
There is no place in the squad for Ben Geddes.

Barring any injuries overnight you would expect McKerr and Patel to share drink duties, this is extremally hard on Patel who had just come into some good form.

Cheers jimbob, if it was me, I'd leave out McKerr obviously and Burns, but sadly that's not going to happen. What's happened to Tom Curran, all those 3.2 over spells worn him out? Has Jason Roy retired from proper cricket? I think Patel might get the nod ahead of Lawes jimbob

Definitely looks a batting day although that increasingly seems to be an old fashioned view which is now disregarded on winning the toss.

Burns loses toss again and Warks put us in. Not unhappy about that.
Surrey leave out McKerr and, very odd, new signing Sudharson. I’m sure Geddes could have done an equally good job sitting on the bench.
The wicket is closer to the gasometer than I’ve ever seen. If Steel doesn’t go for a six, it’ll only be because he doesn’t get a bowl!

Yes … but … genuine question coming up -
If we could have one, but only one of these 2 options, which would one would you choose - 400 all out within 110 overs and thus 4 batting points OR    only 3 batting points within 110 overs but batting beyond that and being 450+ before lunch?
Ideally we get both but I didn’t give you that option!
I suspect we’ll be more keen on getting  a big, big score on the board and may sacrifice the 4th point.
Anyway, we’ll find out before long. Probably more chance of getting to 400 within 110 if at least one of Overton and Clark is at crease.

My only (slight) criticism of yesterday’s recovery is that we were too respectful of the bowling at times. In particular against Rhodes who looked a very ordinary trundler. There again it probably wasn’t an easy judgement call whether to go for broke or stay in. I admit I would be going nuts if he had picked up a couple of wickets.

How things have changed in 30 minutes this morning. Even 400 after 110 looking a stretch from here. Good bowling from Barnard plus another daft run out.

Got him eventually! And now 5 up. He’s not had a great season up until now, but smashed it everywhere in the One Day Cup so hopefully he can finish strong.

Foakes has to be more selfish in these situations - he's not faced majority of the bowling this morning, and even now 8 down is turning over the strike early in the over. Guildford - I think you have mentioned this many times when he plays for England, but he isn't fantastic batting with the tail...

Great start with the ball - rounded off by Brathwaite fending to slip with two balls until lunch, very poor shot.

Excellent work by the bowling attack to bowl Warks out for 161 - lead of 235 runs.

After another dodgy start and criminally missing the 4th batting point, it couldn't have gone better after that, with 17 wickets taken, it's ours to lose if we complete the formalities tomorrow!

Can I just say it was absolutely ludicrous that the umpires took them off for bad light last night - when it was bright sunshine all day, and they had floodlights available...plus only three wickets to end the game with a good crowd in wanting to see a finish

Instead off for bad light, come back the next morning in front of a man and his dog, and it's wrapped up in 3 and a bit overs.

Cricket doesn't half shoot itself in the foot sometimes.
