GB slap back a US restart straight into the hands of a US player, and GB is down for the first time.

GB too slow to breakdowns, and giving turnovers

Far too many missed tackles by GB, US able to break them repeatedly.

Time running out. GB had a penalty but fumble the ball forward, which is probably curtains.

Norman-Bell been superb all tournament for GB though.

No fairytale for France.

A late try by Canada gave them the lead, and France couldn't hit back. No medal for the French women Sevens in Paris.

Ireland two tries down to quickly taken penalties - both of which looked to be taken from in front of the mark (the same offence that cost the Ireland men the game in their QF)

We still have the Americans and the Canadians in addition to the Kiwis and the Aussies. I would like to see the underdogs here. A finals between the North Americans would be a pretty fun time instead of the same-old, same-old.

Tell you what, especially given that Women's Sevens hasn't got that big a profile, Ilona Maher is becoming one of the more prominent athletes in these games! She found some prominence through social media in Tokyo but just seems to be getting more and more in Paris. Maher seems a thoroughly likable character too. Great stuff.

A par performance I'd say for GB given the lack of focus the code gets in Britain. Isla Norman-Bell was their standout across the tournament by a distance I thought. A constant threat. Hopefully we'll see more of her in XVs over the next few years.

Amy Hardy-Wilson in trouble for alleged racist post on social media. I've seen it and looks a bit damning. Not sure how she can excuse that even if not meant to offend.

And an equally sub par performance by GB on the pitch losing to the mighty China.

Very happy for the Canadian and American women for their silver and bronze medals. Shame the Canadians or Americans couldn't turn over the Kiwis because that would have given a great bounce to their programs. On worldwide television. But still great results for their programs and hope this is the start of something big!

I have to admit that despite my best efforts in joining in with the 7s fun, in retrospect I cannot say that I'm a fan. I've tried so hard to love it over the years and I really thought this would be the year, the olympic year that I would be swept up by it all.
Na it's just too one dimensional for me.

That Fiji side around circa 2016 were absolutely incredible to watch, some of the skills on display defied belief, but in general it isn't the best to watch.

I like that it exists as it is a good way to introduce the sport to developing nations and we are (Ireland) pretty good at it. An Olympic medal would be nice to get.

The women's finals day set a new world record for attendance at women's rugby. France and Fiji delivered the dream final for casual viewers and French media. Ilona Maher drew a lot of first timers to the sport with her response to criticism of her BMI.

That can only be good for the sport.

I just read your comments and was just about to write more or less the same thing. Over here on the left side of the Atlantic, Rugby is getting great press and most of that is down to the American Women's team. Ilona Maher is a gem: Smart, articulate, and positive.
