Boxing Cliches
This forum is littered with cliches. Feather fisted, weight drained, took him to school, etc. But what are your favourite boxing cliches?

"Dynamite in both hands"
"He's on queer street"
"I'm not gonna make any excuses for losing, but (insert excuse for losing here)"

Curious. Any particular reason? *hastily makes reminder to use the term as often as possible when in conversation with Windy*

Ha! I'll keep that term for special occasions then! I will admit though, it's certainly a term which is bandied about with excessive regularity.
"shot" is another cliché which seems to see overuse. One loss and a guy's 'shot'. Good job no-one told people like Braddock and Foreman that...
Same as the aforementioned 'exposed', really.

Re: Boxing Cliches
Did everyone miss the fact that the OP was asking for your favourite cliches? You've all turned what could have been a celebration of great boxing lingo into a moan-fest... a moan-fest that I am more than happy to join.
'He blocks punches with his face.'
'Ricky Hatton has gone from being The Hitman to just being a hit man.'
To be fair, I did think both were quite funny the first time I heard them. But that seems an awful long time ago now.

Re: Boxing Cliches
I would say pretty much anything Jim Watt says comes out of a handbook of phrases.
Here's some of my pet hates:
"Speed Kills" - Although it's true in some cases, thought I would class Malignaggi quick lol.
"His punch resistance is gone!" - Some people said that about Hatton, I like ot think that it had more to do with walking around at 13+ stone and boiling down to LW/WW and getting knackered.
"He has a punchers chance" generally = "He has no chance, has a good hook though"

Agreed. Was watching some old fights from the early '90's last week and it occurred to me that Watt has been trotting out the same cliches for 20 years now! Two notable ones of his:
"these are arm punches he's throwing, no real spite in them".
"the Vegas judges favour aggression".

Probably.
It would stand for ' thirty ' because he's not very bright.

I'm not sure who's more annoying; Watt or Larry Merchant.

I've said before that Merchant is like a knackered, useless old sheep dog. Kindest thing to do would be to lure him round the back of the barn with a lamb chop, let him eat it (if you're feeling generous) then give him both barrels of a shot gun right between the eyes and fling him in a ditch. Sadly HBO are like the cruel pet owner that can't let go even when the animal is suffering.

Hell, they could make a 24/7 for it, or at least a '...360' episode.

Re: Boxing Cliches
Hey guys. Sorry to litter the board bt just wanted all you good 606 peeps to know i have just started a boxing blog of my own. I will be doing fight predicitons, recaps, boxing news, polls and plenty more once i get into the swing of it. Also (for the mods here) i plan to PROMOTE 606V2,(see my link to here from my site) i think we have some great posters on here so i will be flowing traffic this way too. The blog is new but i will be posting regularly and would be very happy to have any of you on there. One former 606er has found his way on there (he was a controversial figure on here but im hoping he keeps it clean on my site) before anyone asks i am NOT his alter ego. the site is
