West Indies V India 1st Test Thread
First topic message reminder :
So tomorrow at 16:00 BST the 1st of 3 Tests begins. I'm not seeing anything other than a 3-0 victory for the Indians unless the weather gets in the way. Preview is below:

This game is live on SS1 Red Button for UK Viewers. Thoughts?

Slightly unfair on the Indian bowling, which was pretty good without the leader ZaheerMad for Chelsea wrote:If I was a Windies batsman I'd be concerned by how useless I was in the first innings (honourable exception of Barath)

Re: West Indies V India 1st Test Thread
Didn't mean it to come out that way sonic, sorry. India bowled pretty well indeed (though thought Harbhajan's line was a bit straight and his length a bit short). Sharma looked a handful, and Kumar bowled an excellent spell this morning.
Just thought WI's batting was a bit inept.
Sarwan - padding up, should know better.
Barath - lovely ball, not much he could do.
Bravo - good ball, but a poor shot, indeterminate poke.
Nash - horrible shot, should have played straight instead of mid-wicket.
Baugh - good ball, though could have played it better.
Sammy - basically hit around a straight half-volley.
Chanderpaul - nothing sort of shot.
Edwards - good bowling, googly with extra bounce.
Bishoo - poor shot.
So I'd say that yes, India bowled well, but WI played their own part in their sorry innings.

The main problem for the Windies is their batsmen lack patience.

The WI batters are not so good playing spin. Chanderpaul and Sarwan had been there and done it, but the rest aren't even used to much quality spin bowling as such. Barath did show the right kind of technique against spin, not trying to sweep everything that comes his way, but use his feet and play down the ground.

Re: West Indies V India 1st Test Thread
Completely agree with MFC's assessment of the Indian bowling. Harbhajan was rather poor, getting his line and length wrong often. As I said earlier, his runs are highly valued, but he needs to get his primary act together.
The most heartening thing about the bowling was Ishant Sharma's performance. he worked up pretty good pace, got the ball to move in the air and also of the pitch.Although he at times bowled the wrong lines, in general he kept it tight as well.
PK's debut is something he has many reasons not to forget. His first wicket came of a top delivery, and his spel yesterday was great. but running on the wicket and getting banned? not so great. The important thing with him though is the question of pace. He moves the ball in Indian conditions as well. but to quality international batters, the lack of pace may be a problem, regardless of the swing he manages.
Amit Mishra bowled ok, that's all. nothing special from him on a very helpful track against an opposition that doesn't play spin well.

Quote of the week?
Very true though. Imagine if Shane Warne had been playing?

166/6 at lunch...
A lead of 240 runs...another 100 or so run would be nice...if Bhajji gets going...

I think India have more than enough.
The turn and bounce Bishoo was getting, and he's not a big turner, so Mishra and Harbhajan will be licking their lips

Very true about young Barath.Mad for Chelsea wrote:ah come on sonic, Barath looked pretty good in the first inngs didn't he? Surely if shiv gets 180 of them they'll be OK
But Shiv does love pounding the country of his forefathers.
Shiv 180 and Barath 60.
India win by 10 runs

326 is the target for WI.....and they have 2+ whole days to do it...
Can WI do it...? Doubt it!
Think Ind will wrap this test by end of tomorrow with a day to spare

Re: West Indies V India 1st Test Thread
can't see WI chasing 326, unless they bat spectacularly better than they did in the first innings, or India bowl spectacularly badly. Must say I like the look of Barath though, looks a very organised player, and will hopefully make many more Test runs throughout his career.

Hmm Barath and Simmons giving it a decent go right now, loose bowling mostly from India.

This one's quite nicely poised actually right now, three quick wickets but these two have done well, and at 131/3 WI aren't out of this at all. They need these two to stick around tomorrow for at least another 70/80 runs though.

If India have The Wall, The WI have Paul, Chandarpaul. l fear he may spoil the party of Indians who are planning an early celebrations.

Anyone any idea why Kemar Roach isn't in the side? Injury or just not selected?

Another fine victory by India.

Well played India.
Hope India go on to improve and learn in the next test.
Being a no 1 test side, don't think they played that well I think!

Kohli and Mukund looked nervous on debut.
PK was fantastic on debut.
Ishant seems to have found his rhythm again.
Vijay, Harbhajan and Mishra where pretty awful.
I'd expect Mishra to be dropped at Barbados with Munaf or Mithum replacing him.

25 runs in the second innings and some 10 in the 1st at debut match is not too bad, what India need to is to chop Vijay, and give S adrinath a chance.

England would hammer this India side into next week. Shows the reliance on the old boys somewhat doesn't it. Enjoy it whilst it lasts India, 18months or so and you'll be on a slippery slope

Tamil Nadu players are flops for India.
Dinesh Kartick, S Badrinath, M Vijay all can't cut it a International level.

No footwork, poor technique and can't play the situation.
No point in trying to copy Sehwag, as Sehwag is a once in a lifetime cricketer.

Vijay needs to learn from pros like Dravid...You need to learn to settle down in the first 5 to 10 ovrs, then play the natural game...
