Will O'Brien follow Cavaday?
After losing in straight sets to Kimiko Date-Krumm today, Katie O'Brien was quoted as saying she isn't enjoying life on the challenger tour at the moment and a year or so ago was considering quitting the game altogether.2 years ago she was enjoying life in the fast lane, climbing to a career-high 84 and competing in the main draws of main tour events, but now she languishes just outside the top 200.
I didn't see today's match, but having watched her play at Birmingham, Nottingham and Shrewsbury her game seems to me to be far too error-prone and hit-and-miss. Her poor results have dragged on for a while. She says she's willing to keep working hard, that tennis is her passion and that it would be very hard for her to quit, but there's only so much any player can take of grinding it out at the lower levels. So - having already lost Naomi Cavaday into retirement, is O'Brien soon to follow suit?

Re: Will O'Brien follow Cavaday?
Its a bit depressing after her showing so much promise a few years ago.
Don't know what happened, maybe she was a child of the Noughties era in English tennis, when the LTA were only as useful as a gravy train and didn't really push their protégé's to their dreams fulfilment.
Is this another example of the dreaded Boggo Effect, eight wildcards in a row and nothing to show for it syndrome ?

Anne Keothavong is another who seems to have a gloomy disposition when interviewed. Maybe it's the Draper effect? I remember when Bloomsfield got to the semi-finals of last years Hall of Fame Tennis Championships - he had no kind words for the LTA:

It just not a very happy camp.
