Goals for the year
Hey all
was wondering what every ones goals for the current golfing year are?
Mine is a fairly humble goal that by end of year i will be shooting between 90 and 95 on a weekly basis.
By improving my chipping/pitching round the green and better course management (remembering that just because i saw a pro do it once doesnt mean i can do it) as well s regular playing/range i think this is an achievable target.

Re: Goals for the year
Last year my handicap was bouncing between 5 and 6, this year I want to get myself firmly down to Cat 1 where I don't have to worry about going above 5 every time I play in a medal. This means shooting under 75 on a regular basis round my course.

Re: Goals for the year
Get the ability to consistently shoot below 100 by June, proceed down to 18 handicap by the end of the summer, and improve course management through experience. Should be interesting...

Re: Goals for the year
This years goal is to get my handicap down to +1, by spending more time on the practice ground and posying regular 2/3 under par rounds of golf in competitions this year

Re: Goals for the year
First goal of the year is to get round 18 holes! After a winter of bad weather and a foot injury I'm off out this morning for the first time in 10 weeks.
Once I find I can play a full 18 again, then the next goal is to get the h/c down hopefully to around the 18 mark which is where I feel I should be. After creeping up to 23 early last year I've got it back down to 21 before the foot injury and I'm looking to take another 2 or 3 shots off that by late summer.
But first things first - a completed 18 is the first priority!

Re: Goals for the year
My goals are:
Fundamentally to enjoy my golf by entering comps at my new club, represent the B Team at home and away fixtures and meet up with as many of my fellow 606v2ers over the course of the summer at Saunton, Bournmouth and anywhere else financially feasible. Would like to get my handicap down to about 16 too. Ohh and if anyone on here is interested, during the week I can get visitors in for £5.00 rpt £5.00 a round during the month of March, so if anyone fances a round at a nice little course in the North Cotswolds www.nauntondowns.co.uk then let me know

Thought of you. Played with a couple of old guys at my course yesterday, one of whom had a really old hickory shafted putter (apparently from st Andrews circa 1920) belonged to his father. He putted well with it too, must have holed half a dozen from outside 6 feet

Re: Goals for the year
Well to follow up my own post from earlier, I made my first goal of the year. 18 holes completed with only some discomfort from the foot over the last two or three holes.
It remains to be seen how sore it is tomorrow, but for today it couldn't have been better.
The comp was supposed to be a qualifier but with one hole closed due to maintenance/improvement and the par 5 third turned into a a temporary 3a and 3b (long par3, short par4) the comp had to be demoted to a non-qualifier.
Still I managed 31 points with a lost ball on the last that I didn't bother looking for for the full 5 minutes as it didn't really matter; I was more than happy. First game in almost 3 months I'd have settled for anything over 20 points as long as I made it around!
After such a long lay-off I expected to be much more rusty but half on hour on the range before and half an hour on the putting green took the edge off that and my short game was much better than I expected after such a long break. Don't think I had any three putts which surprised me as we have big greens and I usually many one or two three putts even when I'm playing well!
It's good to be back :friend:

Re: Goals for the year
I'm currently at 16 and would like to get down around 12 by the year end.
But my aim on a round by round basis is to score nothing worse than bogey on any hole. Getting to any par 4 in 3 shots is do-able regardless of what sort of day it is, so if playing for a bogey on 1 or 2 holes elimates the odd 6 or 7 i will take that.
I regualrly par 9 or 10 holes a round but also have too many doubles or worse. If i can reduce those to bogeys that shuold get me down around 12. Short term aim for a long term goal!

After what was my worst season yet last season my hcap went up 0.8 to 3.6, I'll be trying to get back to where I was at the end of 2009.

Re: Goals for the year
Main target is Cat 1, so less than 5.4 - currently 6.7
I also want to
break gross par for the first time
get a cut in an open comp
win a medal
play under my handicap at a top top venue

What happened, that sounds horrific. If it is not too painful I would be interested to hear what happened?

im hoping to get into the 36 holer at silloth ...never played it before so a couple of buffers would do fine.

hope everyone hits meets their goals......look forward to the update for this thread in october :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying:

Re: Goals for the year
Really want to get my handicap down to below 14 which was my original target but have now hit 2 rounds of 84 & 85. But to be honest all I want to do is enjoy my golf this year as have only been back playing again for the last 6 months. But shooting low scores I am sure will go along way to enjoying it I am sure :shooter:
Another target is to hit 4 birdies or more in a single round have only ever managed 3 so this would be a massive achievemnt

Re: Goals for the year
Ok so I said one goal but have sat down today and planned my season first time I've been able to do this for about 3years.
Have got my entries in for four 36 hole scratch events. (1 per month may through august)
Want a top 5 in each of those with 1 win ideally.
Practice 3 nights a week.
Try to win club championship & Scratch Matchplay
One I would love to achieve is our amateur course record currently its -6 (held by my brother)
Attend all 4 days of the Open at RSG
Finish the year with handicap of +1

Re: Goals for the year
My goal last year was to hit a score in the 80's. I made 4 in the end.
This year I want to hit 5 80's rounds in a row, and a stretch target to hit a round in the 70's by christmas.

Re: Goals for the year
2011 Targets:
- Retain the cup i won in 2010 for best 6 nett medal scores based on your handicap at the start of the year (i.e. long hand for most improved golfer) - Started well -2 for the first (January) medal which i won
- Reduce handicap from 18 to 12 - Started well, down to 17 already by virtue of my Jan medal win.
- Win a matchplay comp - Started well, in the semi of the Winter Greensomes.
- Round in the 70s...
- Be more consistent, i went through June, July and August last when i was absolutely dog poo, March, April and May, Sept, Oct and Nov were good.

Re: Goals for the year
The goal is to get down to 9 from 11.8 and for the first time ever, have a single figure handicap. That's a reduction of 2.4, ie 12 shots under my current handicap, nett over the season.
How? Practise twice a week with around 75% short game, 25% long game; stop trying to leather the ball on every shot - just because I can hit it a very long way for my handicap doesn't mean I have to and usually results in cabbage grief; increase FIRs and GIRs with more considerate course mgmt (and less ball leathering); get some consistency with my streaky putter! when it's good it's awesome but i find myself going through spells of leaving everything short and therefore never giving the ball a chance; join the very reaonably priced local course (Crail's 30mins away) to get more on-course practice (option of £100 annual fee plus £2 a round played).
If I actually manage to do all of those things, the handicap should take care of itself.
