Euro Champs
Thought I'd give a little update on the euro champs since I havent seen it mentioned.
As it stands Tom Stalker and Charlie Edwards are now guarenteed medals for GB. Stalker had just moved up to light welter. Tom came into serious boxing as a relative late comer and in my mind has continued to get better an better since making the GB squad, a real prospect for 2012 and further. Edwards is a new boy on the international scene and also looks a good prospect, both had really good wins today, Stalker beating the reigning champ, and Edwards beating a former medalist.
Hot prospect Luke Campbell lost to a bit of a home town decision, although someone of his ability could maybe have done more to secure the decision. Martin Ward has made it to the quarters along with Andrew Selby and Fred Evans. Experienced amateur Khalid Yafai was well beaten by Ireland's Micheal Conlon though, Conlon looked more than decent, first time I've seen him.
Super Heavyweight Anthony Joshua has looked pretty decent aswell, he's also in the quarters, however team GB might rue not showing more faith in Callum Johnson as light heayweight Obed Mbwakongo again showed a lack of a decnt chin and is out.
Will try to keep updating as it goes on.

Re: Euro Champs
I'll second that, Day v Lately.
Not easy to keep up with the modern game, even at world level, so it's nice that somebody takes the trouble to keep us abreast of things.
Thanks very much.

Have a heart, Eric.
My computer runs on steam and my grandkids reckon that I'm beyond salvation. Give me pipe, slippers, a nice single malt or a mug of Horlicks and a couple of Joe Louis DVDs, sit me in the corner, and you won't hear a squeak out of me all night.

Re: Euro Champs
Evening gentleman,
after todays action Irelands Roy Moylette joined Tom Stalker in the ligh welter semi's, but Irelands John joe nevin was defeated by one point to go out. Their captain Darren o' Neil was also beaten. Micheal Conlon who had impressed against Yafai was also defeated.
But for Britain Andrew Selby and Fred Evans also made the semi' in the the light flyweight and welter divisions, meaning Britain have at leat 4 medals secured. Martin Ward was defeated though in the lightweight division.
Other news of note, after some discusion on David Price, Cammerlle who smashed him up in Beijing also went into the semi's as he continues as an amateur.

Update
GB's Stalker and Moylette willfight it out for gold in the light welter, while Fred Evans and Andrew Selby will also compete for gold. Chalie Edwards will have to settle for the bronze, but a promising performance from the 18 year old in this tournament, and Britain having 3 finalists, and Luke Campbell not being one of them is a good effort.

Re: Euro Champs
No worries Galv,
Andrew Selby won gold today, as did welter Fed Evans. Superb effort from the two welsh lads, and some vindication for McCracken, as Selby was one of the lads he rated above Haroon Khan, after the media seemed to side with the Khan's version of events during the commonwealths.
Tom Stalker had to settle for silver though, beaten by Ireland's Ray Moylette. A good debut at light Welter for Tom, and excellent progress for Moylette.

Re: Euro Champs
To be honest Day V Mccracken didn't need any vindication from the Khan incident, the elite squad is made up from those who perform well in regional and national competitions, simple truth is there were a number of people who performed better than Khan in these tournaments, hence why they were invited to the elite squad. There was only ever a fuss because the idiots who seem to surround Team Khan got over-excited on Twitter (for a change)

Re: Euro Champs
I agree Rowley it was always the right choice, think Tommy Stubbs was also ahead of Khan. Just didnt like the way Khans bronze generated more column inches that the likes of Stalker's gold.
The papers seem to print anything team Khan said, without offering much of an explanation for McCracken, I think Bradley Saunders actually came out and offered the most reasonable explanation, only to be the next victim of Khans rapier like wit on twitter.

Re: Euro Champs
No probs Windy, thats 3 golds in the last two Euros, and plenty of medals and quater finalist's, Stalker seems to medal regularly and Campbell has been a stand out performer previous to this tournament, but otherwise theres seems to be a good mix of different names performing well for GB in international tournaments, which would suggest a good strength in depth.
