Abs
Any of you guys training abs at all?
I blow hot and cold with abs, sometimes I do them a few times a week, sometimes I won't bother with them for a few weeks.
If you do, how often do you do them, or more to the point - how often do you think they should be worked?

Re: Abs
No...I'm vain and I only train what people can see.....Hence I don't do calves either.....
Although heavy hack squats, leg presses work both the abs and the calves if truth be told so with my diet my stomach is hard and my calves are quite tasty.....

Re: Abs
No, I don't do them. Ripped abs isn't really one of my goals though. I only do compound lifts which some people say is enough to develop strong abs, others say you need to supplement those with dedicated excercises. A lot of it is to do with diet and low body fat anyway which is something I can't really be bothered with at the moment.

Re: Abs
I do them every day.....
A decent one is a five minute routine with no breaks - doing a minute each ex.
Crunches
V ups
Leg Raises to 90 degrees - lifting hips off the ground also
Cycling
Toe Touches with legs held at 90 degrees
Lots of others aswell. If you want me to post some just let me know.

Re: Abs
Now doing them 3 times a week after a weights session, tues and thurs I do cardio, i:e rugby. A good one is to pull yourself up onto a pull-up bar, brace your core to keep you steady and slowly raise your legs (fully locked) up to a 90 degree angle then slowly back down, then back up again so on and so fourth without swinging.
I'm also into the rope behind the head crunches and just general sit-ups on the proper sit-up bench whilst holding a 10kg weight behind the head. Start on 5kg until abs become stronger as it will place strain on the lower back.
If you want the 6 pac then it's all about diet. Hence why my abs aren't so good. Just joined a new team that hasn't seen me play before but seem to really rate me because of my physical condition; so I must be doing something right.

Re: Abs
Seems like you do quite a similar workout to me, though I've had a few weeks off recently, going to get back into it soon.
Re: Abs
Are burpees not good for abs aswell? I normally just through a few crunches in to my circuits every couple sessions

Re: Abs
They are the best for abs. Although you should vary it, some people go for a 1000 sit-ups but that just gets really boring. Burpees, like cleans, are a bit of an all-over work out. I'd say predominantly it works your upper body then legs after that as you power up off of the floor. You'd use your core strength here too, but I suppose you use that in everything if you have the correct technique.

Re: Abs
I do them but more because I previously had back issues so want to ensure I always have a strong core to avoid problems in the future.

Cheers for that man, I struggle with my abs quite a bit, becoming defined and then undefined every other week... Probably the reason, seems so obvious to me now though!!!

Yeah its all about the diet. Any excess fat will hide the abs underneath.
I start the week a little flabby due to excess brown ale and horror drunken munchie foods.....but by the end of the week im lean again....just in time to ruin it all again...
