I understand. For me it's usually arrogance or those players that don't acheive anything. Hingis, Federer, Djokovic, Wozniacki all qualify for differing reasons. I can't see Wozniacki being No. 1 for a long time as she is too defensive and doesn't have any 'weapons'. Besides, constantly retrieving is mentally tiring. You need at least 1 big shot. Add to that she's so intensely boiung to watch.

Re: I Hate/Love/Nada/Federer
The way Hingis's career ended was just frustrating as it was she had the potential and just wasted it. Her achievements deserved a much more fitting end. I think sometimes with the courts being changed as they have and equipment pretty much dictates where the game is going and what players have to do to adjust to those conditions, I think people within the game observe that tennis is much more 'eye' pleasing with baseline rallies being the order of play.
I don't mind players like Federer and Djokovic. It is more perception. I find it amazing that womens achievements are cast to one side as that they are nothing in comparison to the mens. I think for me a lot of if it is press generated. I would like to see more womens tennis available on TV. I am hoping the womens game moves towards a more competitive era in the coming years.

Re: I Hate/Love/Nada/Federer
Hingis was extremely arrogant (RG '99 Final). Also, she didn't possess power. I always loved power players in the women's game (Graf, Seles, Davenport, Pierce, Capriati, Serena) so she didn't appeal on that criteria either.
The women's game suffers now as we don't have 3 or 4 top women constantly reaching the SFs and Finals of major tournaments.
I actually always preferred the women's game to the men's until about 5 years ago when we started seeing the likes of Ivanovic, Jankovic, Safina and now Wozniacki. Dull players who can't be consistent for longer than a few months. The men's game has, in the last 4-5 years had top players achieving a lot and providing us with great rivalries. The 'swap' that has occurred has meant that the men's game is much more popular than ever to the detriment of the women's game.

What happens when someone likes Federer and Nadal for differing reasons (and various others including Djokovic, Murray,...), etc. ? Loathe is a strong word to use against another human.

Re: I Hate/Love/Nada/Federer
I liked Davenport. It was a shame she never won more than her 3 Slam titles. Felt she lost the 2005 Wimbledon final. Was gutted for her.
Safina was the saddest case for me. When she lost the FO final through a DF, never seen anything so poor in a tennis final.
I think the womens game can catch up. I like the look of Kvitova. She looks all power and if she can work on her accuracy she could be a top deserving player, and not the no.1s without a slam to their name.

Do you consider Serena's 'foot fault' incident decent human behaviour? Are you not contradicting yourself?graf_the_greatest wrote:Hingis was extremely arrogant (RG '99 Final). Re: I Hate/Love/Nada/Federer
Well laverfan, I only loathe Federer. Yes, it's a strong word but I am passionate about tennis. I am not interested in any other sport. I watch, play, attend events. Tennis is my drug of choice.
You may not agree or understand but there it is.

Re: I Hate/Love/Nada/Federer
Yes her behaviour was embarrassing but she's a proper power player with a strong mentality. Besides, she was actually correct about the call, she just didn't express her opinion properly.
And cheating is also something I don't like in a player. Roland Garros 2003 women's SF anyone?

There was a certain player who was fined at Wimbledon (Mecca of Tennis) for coaching? Not bashing this specific player, just analysing your opinion.graf_the_greatest wrote:

Re: I Hate/Love/Nada/Federer
Well having seen the Henin v Williams semi, I think Henin did it out of revenge for an earlier point in that service game that was called out and was.
I think it is a difficult one to really get into without accusing.

I watched it live and have rewatched several times on You Tube. You'd have to be blind to not see what happened. Serena never forgave her for that. I don't remember any player, male or female, resorting to that type of behaviour before or since.

There was the infamous 'out' call against Clijsters in the Australian Open Final in 2004. Do you remember that?

I saw the 'hand' incident. Would you not say it is more Gamesmanship?

I don't remember the AO '04 call so can't comment. Perhaps I need to look that one up on You Tube.
As for RG SF '03 that was cheating not 'gamesmanship'. Call a spade a spade.

Look it up. Clijsters hits a winner. Henin calls it out. The umpire and judge didn't and then the judge overturned it.
As for Rg, I think the less said the better. I agree with laverfan on Serena abusing that official. Totally un-called for to threaten an official.

GtG... This is the 2003 FO SF incident in French with some subtitles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDEkfCVR5F4
What do you think of this viewpoint?
Edit: Added the AO 04 link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKAJXzxw7lA
Added the US 04 link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtkKdCeQgQM (Capriati should have given the point to Serena).

Yep laverfan, I agree with your opinion on AO '04 & USO '04
However, that RG SF '03 shows undeniable cheating!

this is the difference between fed fans and nadal fans. Nadal fans are bitter and aggressive. Anyone remembers Boromir, Rez, Cp or polished uneducated?
I, with some reasons, consider myself one of the most educated person ever to live on earth. If I somtimes indulge in slightly provocative comments, always well within the limits of politeness though, it's just to try to enlighten obfuscated minds like yours.
I reckon this is a hopeless war.

If you are the most erudite on the planet, oh PM, then the futility of this hopeless war, being obvious to the enlightened one, should be reason enough to cease this futile daily battle of enlightening the obfuscated minds or the hopeless war against eternal darkness of the human being. What a paradox (to echo Yummy's thoughts precisely)!

PM... glad to see an educated human being's willingness to be further educated. Amazing!polished_man wrote:Just a moment of weakness and bitterness, Leaver my dear.
As I demonstrate with the previous statement (innate ability of the human being to learn), I have respect for WoW and Yummy, both. Perhaps, they both should give you collective hope, O Enlightened One!polished_man wrote:I reckon I should have known better befor drawing such general conclusions, as for every Wows there is always a Yummy that gives plenty of hope......

Why not all, but most of the best players?
Is one player's bestness somehow a different quality than another player's bestness?
