RTE
Just a question is RTE planning to move to a totally digital platform. If so when and will the digital platform cover the Island of Ireland.
I saw a Saorview box on sale in Downpatrick today and it started me thinking

Re: RTE
I read somewhere it was a different standard than Freeview. Or rather a lot of the TVs bought here aren't compatible with it. Down home you can pick up the channels sure enough, but no pictures or sound. Radio works fine though.

Re: RTE
Dave - oh I don't know....I tuned in to RTÉ 1 on Sunday to listen to the Dubs game and they said they weren't allowed to bring full live commentary. Had it not been for someone here giving me a link to Newstalk live I'd have been listening to a couple of fellas chatting in a cupboard! I also had problems with their GAA Media player, although when it does work you can pick up the main radio stations.

Re: RTE
At times right enough RTE player wouldn't work up here, even though it's supposed to I think. Should add though Cari I live near the border so would be near an RTE transmitter.
Just a bit perplexed though, why would so many TVs up here not be able to recieve RTE?

That might answer some questions?

Cari/Dave
Thanks for your responses. My question is the terrestial service being replaced. Even though I m well behind the Mournes I get both RTE TV channnels and 3 as well as TG4.
My worry is that if RTE move to a totally digital platform then I will lose access to the games. I think you can get RTE on sky but wouldnt on principle give my money to Murdoch and still might have the problem with live streaming of games.
At present I couldnt watch on line as my ISP is not Island of Ireland specific.
Just wondered why the SAORVIEW box was on sale locally?

I plugged the tv in and it asked me for a region. I told it Ireland

To answer, the original question around the time Saorview was launched I think I remember reading that analogue will be gone by 2012 and that everything will be digital under an EU agreement or something.

Re: RTE
It shows one how poor the northern nationalist parties are that 13 years after the Belfast Agreement northerners who want to avail of the full range of RTE services plus TV3 (which I can't access?) and TG4 cannot easily do so.
My own belief is that the Sinn Fein party has not pushed this media case deliberately as they are worried the northern nationalist electorate will see how they're not the main player down south in the political debates, shows and coverage etc. and they're ego can't stand that.
Sinn Fein prefer the nice friendly BBC NI and UTV really who give them ample coverage! Sorry if this is a bit political but it's a point that had to be made.

Re: RTE
good friday agreement you mean?
have to agree by right bbc ni or utv should be showing the complete gaa season not just the ulster games plus utv dont even show gaa and bbc only show the all-ireland series if there is an ulster team playing. bbc's excuse in 2009 insluted many who asked why the all-ireland was not being shown there excuse of no uk team is playing sums up tv in the north.
