Mitchell v Murray write up and more
Here is our write up of last night's great battle between Murray and Mitchell, well done Kevin, i had thought wit the lay off and the personal probs Murray might take him on points but a fantastic fight by Mitchell and grand finish. Got Bellew and Burns (brief as it was) write ups on there too. Enjoy

A devastating loss to Katsidis followed by year out of the ring and numerous personal problems, but still Kevin Mitchell (32-1-0 24KO) overcame the odds against John Murray (31-1-0 18KO).
The Echo arena in Liverpool needed a grandstand battle to finish its card, earlier fights had been timid or bizarre in nature but when the two lightweights made their way to the ring you sensed something grand might be about to take place and it was.
At it from the 1st bell Murray came straight forward to meet his London rival, Mitchell moved quickly in the opening round looking to stop the Mancunion from getting in close and firing firm shots from the outside, with 20 seconds left in the round Murray did get in close and a fight broke out. In the second Murray caught Mitchell and briefly looked to have him hurt, Mitchell was getting to his man as well but still Murray marched forward.
In the third and fourth Mitchell looked to go back to his game plan moving laterally on the outside and firing off combos into Murray, the Mancunion was seemingly unshakeable in the early exchanges and continued moving forward trying to back Mitchell into corners where he could unload. The quality was coming from the Londoner and the relentlessness from Murray, it was already a domestic dust-up to remember.
Into the fifth and Murray's face started to show evidence of the blows with in the form of large swelling under the right eye but still he came with the volume backing Mitchell into the ropes for much of the round and letting his hands go. In the sixth Murray's work rate dropped with Mitchell getting off first and holding the center more, the seventh and eighth would define the fight's course.
Still coming forward Murray was too easy to hit as finally the punches began to take their toll on him. Mitchell always the more technically gifted of the two lands an uppercut at the end of the round that shakes Murray to his core and sees him staggering back to his corner as the bell sounds, in the eighth he would it would be over.
Pounding his gloves together in an effort to gee himself Murray came forward once more, Mitchell now meeting him in the center of the ring took a minute and a half of measuring before unleashing a left hook that send his man to the canvas. Up before the ten count but clearly hurt Murray was allowed to continue briefly but after another vicious combo was stopped on his feet by the referee. A frantic pace and a fantastic battle Mitchell finally had redemption for Katsidis and in style. Murray far too easy to hit has perhaps found his level on the European scene and will go back to the drawing board, always game and entertaining we thank him for his part in this battle.
