Cricketfan - unless my memory deceives me, Alan Knott was far from defensive. I remember him as an unorthodox and sometimes quite aggressive batsman! Do the stats say otherwise?!
Trevor Bailey deserves a place. Chris Tavare made a speciality of playing almost strokeless innings.
Waqar was a highly aggressive bowler - is he in the team on account of his defensive batting?

I would swap Dravid around with VVS Laxman. Dravid can be aggressive when he needs to be as can Shivnarine Chanderpaul who you've got in your list.

VVS is more aggressive than The Wall Liam
Hanif Mohammad has to be a shoe in, he played the longest history in Test cricket.

Cricketfan - you have to find a place for India's opener Sunny Gavaskar. In a 60 over ODI in 1975 he carried his bat for 36!
As regards Alan Knott - the Corporal's memory is spot on.

Theres a bit of an eras thing here though. Today a defenzive batsman is considered someone with a SR under 70, time was scoring at 3 an over was considered aggressive.
From an England perspective Atherton would have been the last real old school opener, and Trott is the master of refussing to play shots in a run chase.
Just been looking at Hoggard vs Anderson in battle of the specialist nightwatchmen.... Andersons strike rate is 36, Hoggards a ridiculous 22.

Two old-timers to consider:
William Scotton, who had a poem written about his slow play during a test at the Oval by Alfred, Lord Tennyson.
Arthur Shrewsbury, whose career was based on impregnable defense utilising pad-play.

In support of Chris Tavare's application, from Wiki:
He adapted his natural game to meet the requirements of the Test side, becoming a notorious blocker. In 1981, at Old Trafford he scored 69 and 78, but was at the crease for twelve hours. His 50 in five hours and fifty minutes, against Pakistan in 1982, was the second slowest in the history of the English game. Amongst his slowest crawls was to score just 35 runs, in six and a half hours, at Madras in the 1981/2 season.

Godfrey Evans for Knott as keeper. I think he once batted 93 minutes without scoring...
Bailey has to play. He could (when the occasion called for it) bore with bat or ball. As could Ken "Slasher" Mackay , an Australian contemporary.
And "Jackie" McGlew of SA who once made 105 in a tick over nine and a half hours...
Lots of candidates , though in truth many of these fellows could score quickly when they needed to but often played the stonewall role for their teams.
