Strikeforce: Fedor Emilianenko vs Dan ‘Hendo’ Henderson
Strikeforce is returning to Primetime with a bang on July 30th as two legends collide in a Heavyweight fight fans have long wished to see.
Fedor Emilianenko is seeking to re-establish himself in the Heavyweight mix following consecutive losses for the first time in his career. Following a surprise submission loss to Fabricio Werdum, Fedor Emilianenko went into the Strikeforce World Grand Prix looking to re-establish himself as the undisputed number 1 in world MMA. Things didn’t go to plan though as ‘Big Foot’ Antonio Silva delivered an impressive stoppage win that left Fedor facing calls to retire. Those calls were quickly dismissed and Fedor began training with his brother ahead of taking on fellow Legend Dan Henderson.
Dan Henderson has done it all in his career, from Olympic wrestler to two weight Pride champion, there are few who have matched his skills and dedication. After leaving the UFC as a free agent he was quickly snapped up by Strikeforce and made his debut facing then Middleweight champion Jake Shields. Following a decision loss he moved up to Light Heavyweight defeating Renato Sobral by first round KO to earn the opportunity to fight for gold once more. This time he was successful, defeating Rafael Cavalcante to become Strikeforce Light Heavyweight World Champion. Now he’s fighting for the chance to say he is the greatest legend in the sport!
Also featuring on this exciting card is British KO sensation Paul Daley, following his unsuccessful challenge for gold against Nick Diaz, Daley is keen to place himself back in the mix for Welterweight gold. He begins by facing undefeated All-American wrestler Tyron Woodley. At 8-0 Woodley will be no pushover for Daley.
Strikeforce:Fedor vs Hendo will be broadcast live at 3am on Saturday night, and will be repeated for the following 6 days. Watch on Ch480 on Sky Primetime Website – only £9.95!

Re: Strikeforce:Fedor vs Hendo is Live and Exclusive to Primetime in the UK!
never have purchased off primetime but am tempted, would love Fedor to Get a convincing win, as Henderson has had a good career so the loss won't affect him as mush unliek fedor who losses surely it's game over.
Would like Daley to also get back in the mix, thought he was dealt a harsh hand with his sacking and really do think on his day is a tough fight. just liek nearly all brits needs better wrestling.

I really hope that Fedor mashes Henderson. I still havent forgiven Dan for his late punch on Bisping.

Re: Strikeforce:Fedor vs Hendo is Live and Exclusive to Primetime in the UK!
Does anyone know whether Dan is moving up to heavyweight or if Fedor is moving down to light heavy?
If its the latter, how do you think Fedor would get on against the like sof Bones and Rampage?

I think it's stupid of Fedor to not have a crack at LWW. He's suffered back to back losses and has always been a small HW with many questioning whether he should retire.
Fighting Hendo is a risk because if he loses he'll be asked by many to retire, especially losing against very small heavyweight and if he wins, the critics will say 'Hendo was in his 40's and a natural MW.'

Which is why he chose to fight a former middle weight next...? (After two losses to two giants...)

Ok, heres mine...
Fedor wins via tko - 2nd round...
Coenen wins via UD
Kennedy wins via UD (Don’t know much about these fighters so this is just a guess)
Daley wins via 1st round KO
Saffiedine wins via TKO 2nd round
Green wins via UD
(I am terrible at predicting fights but if I get 2 out of these 6 correct I’ll be happy)

Paul Daley: “Tyron Woodley is a great fighter, but he's too green. I'm going to bring my experience, composure and knockout power to this kid. He ain’t ever been in there with an animal like me”.
(London 28th July, London) On Saturday night, two of MMA’s biggest legends collide at Strikeforce: Fedor vs Henderson live and exclusive on Primetime.
Exclusively on Primetime
Strikeforce: Fedor vs Henderson has the potential to be nothing short of era defining and is only available on Primetime Channel 480 on Sky in the UK
Fedor vs. Henderson – A Heavyweight Odyssey
In one of the most anticipated Heavyweight bouts in MMA history; former PRIDE Heavyweight champion and all time great Fedor Emelianenko will face current Strikeforce Light-Heavyweight title-holder and multiple time world champion Dan Henderson.
Henderson made history in 2007 when his knockout victory over Wanderlei Silva at Pride 33 made him the first fighter to simultaneously hold two title belts in different weight categories in a major organization.
Henderson’s lists of conquests reads like a who’s who of modern MMA with former UFC Middleweight champion Rich Franklin, former Strikeforce champion Rafael Cavalcante and former Pride Middleweight champion Wanderlei Silva all feeling the power of Hendo.
Fedor Emelianenko’s icy demeanor is legendary and his incredible 28 fight winning streak saw him defeat some of the best in the world including Pride OWGP champion Mirko Cro Cop, UFC and Pride Heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and UFC and M1 European Heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski.
There simply may not be a bigger Heavyweight fight in 2011.
Paul ‘Semtex’ Daley – Fireworks Guaranteed
The UK’s No1 Welterweight, Paul ‘Semtex’ Daley, will meet one of MMA’s hottest prospects in Tyron Woodley, in an elimination bout that will decide who will fight for the vacant Strikeforce title.
In one of the greatest rounds ever in MMA; Paul Daley left it all on the line against Nick Diaz and was stopped with only seconds left after depositing the champion face first on the canvas earlier in the round.
Tyron Woodley, however, is no easy task for any Welterweight and the wrestling powerhouse has destroyed six of his eight opponents within the distance on the way to a perfect 8-0 record.
The combination of Daley’s 20 KO’s to Woodley’s 75% finishing ratio is sure to lead to explosive results. Ensure you do what you need to do before this fight starts because either man could end this one in a heartbeat.
Speaking exclusively to Primetime, Paul Daley said: “Tyron Woodley is a great fighter, but he's too green. I'm going to bring my experience, composure and knockout power to this kid. He ain’t ever been in there with an animal like me”.

Coenen meets Tate in Historical Welterweight Championship Bout
For the first time under the Zuffa umbrella; two women will step into the Strikeforce cage for a title, as Miesha Tate challenges the current Strikeforce Welterweight champion Marloes Coenen.
Many are touting this bout as a harbinger for things to come in the UFC and both Coenen and Tate will not want to leave anything to chance in this potentially epic encounter.
The pedigree of these two fighters speaks volumes as Coenen is currently ranked number 1 in the women’s Welterweight division with a record of 19-4-0 while Tate is currently ranked at number 5 with a record of 11-2-0.
This meeting was set to take place earlier in the year but a knee injury to Tate not only prolonged the inevitable fireworks but also fueled the growing tension between the two fighters and both will look to walk out with the gold on July 30th
Smith vs. Saffiedine Battle for Contendership
This fantastic event will also see another Welterweight war between knockout artist Scott Smith and submission specialist Tarec Saffiedine, with the winner looking likely to face Daley or Woodley for the Welterweight title.
The card is also bolstered by fan favorite and former US soldier Tim Kennedy as he takes on “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler in an incendiary Middleweight bout.

My predictions
Fedor Emelianenko to ko Hendo(more hopeful than anything)
Miesha Tate to sub Coenen(don't know much about womans mma)
Tim Kennedy to dec Lawler(very tough fight to call but I edge towards Kennedy who has better grappling)
Paul Daley to KO Woodley(Another tough matchup. I'll go with KO but I fear Woodley might grind out a decision with better wrestling)
Tarec Saffiedine to beat Smith(Don't know much about Saffiedine but Smith isn't the best)
JZ Cavalcante to dec Green(JZ too skilled and experienced for Green)

Re: Strikeforce:Fedor vs Hendo is Live and Exclusive to Primetime in the UK!
Hi All,
what did everyone think of the card? I watched it on Sunday and although the Dayle fight was a bit boring I thought as a whole the card was good and exciting.
Gotta give big props to the Tate vs Coenen as probably the best fight of the night IMO in which the unexpected finish just added to the excitment.
Hendo vs Fedor - wow, what a fight just a shame it finished so soon. My question is:
Was Herb Dean correct to call time on that fight when he did?

Re: Strikeforce:Fedor vs Hendo is Live and Exclusive to Primetime in the UK!
gotta say - I just watched it and it all ended unbelievably quickly.
If that had been Lesnar in the ring, Dana would have told the refs not to stop it! I am not saying that Fedor would have got up, but he was hardly given the chance to do anything.

Re: Strikeforce:Fedor vs Hendo is Live and Exclusive to Primetime in the UK!
i thought it was quick but don't think it's a bad decision. Fedor did look ko'd the way he collapsed to the ground even though he started defending pretty much immediately.
Anyway overall pretty gutted the way the card went. Daley and Fedor getting beat is not a good night for me!

The only thing I would add than was that if the call was the right call AGAIN Dan Henderson is guilty of striking a defeated opponent after the fight has been stopped. But with this being the fan fav Hendo no one seems to mention it...

I've watched the fight twice and never noticed a particularly late shot so I don't think it was too bad.
If you want to see a trademark hendo late shot watch his 2nd fight against Wand.

This for me shows the inconsistency of stoppages by g 'n' p, some refs let a fighter take a real pasting while others can seem to stop it to early, whether this is down to 'politics' or a poor decision I couldn't say, probably a bit of both.
With regards to the stoppage I was at first surprised but after watching the replays I could see why it was stopped, Fedor was out for a split second but did recover & tried to defend. Possibly the ref was a little slow to react after making his decision. Thought it was a good fight while it lasted, Fedor seemed a bit wild at times, didn't see any improvement in his stand up which he was supposed to have been working on with Ernesto Hoost, but I thought Hendo made some nice moves & defence. Where do you guys think Fedor goes from here? Or is it just a case of 'this is MMA anything can happen & he lines up another a fight with another name opponent?

I hope he keeps fighting. He is still very competitive in his fights.

Thats it, he may have lost his last 3 now but was competitive in all of them. Do you think he should try & get a rematch with any of them, Werdum for example?

I'd love to see him revenge his loss to Werdum. A stupid mistake cost him that fight! he was just too aggresive just like Saturday against Hendo- he was on the verge of winning, then was reversed by not securing top position against one of the top wrestlers in mma Henderson.
His main problem imo is he trains with a pretty average team. Most top athletes train with other top athletes. Fedor never trains with the best guys and pretty much always stays in his home town Stary Oskol to train apart from very occasional trips to Japan and Holland. Despite this he was still the best for nearly 10 years.
I wonder how good he would have been if he had moved to US to train.

A rematch with Werdum would be interesting as he was winning the fight imo, more so than the Henderson fight which I didn't consider him on the verge of winning, Henderson had the better tactics. I agree he was to aggressive, there was no clean strikes from punches or kicks, Henderson covered or blocked well in places. As I said in my original post there was no evidence of improved striking that he supposedly worked on in Holland, he came out like a crude pub brawler.
I get the feeling that his camp isn't that good & that the way MMA has evolved he's kind of got left behind, he hasn't added anything new to his game. On the other hand why fix what isn't broke? He'd done extremely well throughout his career & was many peoples no1. Going to the USA or anywhere for that matter with a high level of pro training wouldn't have done him any harm but there's the old addage that fighters are born not created & that fighters make trainers. Not always 100% though. Be interesting to see where he goes from here.

Maybe saying he was on the verge of winning is a bit of a stretch but he had stunned Hendo and got him to the ground. If he had just secured top position then rained down some Fedor special GNP he would have had a great chance to stop the fight, instead he maintained a half guard half side mount position which Hendo easily reversed and stopped the fight a few seconds later. That's the way I saw it anyway but I am biased.
This is the first I've heard he has been cut. Pretty gutted though it will be interesting to see where he goes now.

Its amazing to think that just over a year ago he could have got a mega bucks deal from UFC and now he cant get a fight in strikeforce or UFC!
Feed him to Lesnar is what Dana should offer - its about the only megafight for fedor out there (I am not saying he is the best opponent for him, just the only one that people would shed $$$ to see)

Fedor vs Brock would break all kinds of records when it comes to numbers. I would pay big $$$ for that fight even though I am not a massive Fedor or Brock fan, but that fight would be massive! Unfortunately the UFC will not co-promote with M-1 and Fedor will only fight if M-1 was a part of it.
Of course with Fedor being cut all of this is moot, but for me I say Brock wins that fight.

It happened last week.
Primetime had the rights pulled for the broadcasting in the UK at the last minute - not their fault by all accounts.
You can find the fight on youtube if you look.

First son has only been born so give me the benefit of doubt haha. Broken sleep + havent been in work so Ive lost track of days .
Fedor should retire now, his punch resistance has all but vanished, twice now he's been beaten going in for the kill.
Is there a fighter that blows hot and cold more then Daley

Congratulations on the kid mate
A fighter that blows more hot and cold then Daley? I don’t think Dayle blows that hot and cold rather only has the one game plan, that being said I was very very impressed with his TTD in his last fight and it’s only because of the current judging and scoring system that we have in MMA that he lost that fight. The sooner something is drawn up specific to scoring and judging MMA the better. The current boxing style system that is currently used is not fit for purpose.
Pat Barry WLWLWL can’t say much more hot and cold than that...

Nice one mate
True regarding the scoring system. Its not good especially as most of the fights are 3 rounds long. If they are going to use this system, there should be more emphasis on dominatings rounds being scored at 10-8 as you see too many wrong decisions.
Pat Barry should have beaten Cro Cop and Kongo, he only has himself to blame for his own down fall. But the dig Kongo hit him with, especially on wobbly legs, was a peach.
