Froch - Ward fight confirmed for 29 October
From the BBC website: "Britain's Carl Froch will fight American Andre Ward in the final of the Super Six boxing classic on 29 October in Atlantic City."
Another good fight to look forward to and, in all honestly, a close one to call. Froch seems to find ways to win, but Ward is fast and akward. To early for predictions!

You know its going be interesting no matter what. Froch never in a bad fight and its always a tear up, Ward is quick and technically more gifted, along with speed. Should be a great match up. Hope Froch wins because he will finally get the accolades he deserves and "MAY" step out of Calzaghes shadow. Who knows, good luck to him!

I think Ward wll win by UD. He is technically very sound and uses his head well (literally). Froch is wide open to a right hand Johnson hit him with it several times and Wards speed could be the telling factor.
Hope I'm wrong I really like Froch's attitude.

He has got a 71% KO ratio to be fair mate. I know he aint stopped anyone since Taylor, but still, that was a good achievment. Abraham has never been stopped i dont think, neither has Direll (apart from when Abraham got a DQ lol) and obviously Glen Johnson aint either as far as im aware but could be wrong. Still to see Wards chin tested but i cant see a KO, i agree with you in a long distance fight with Ward picking up a UD. Hope im wrong though. Why is this fight in his back yard again btw?

Because he's American and they are pulling the strings on the super six?

Re: Froch - Ward fight confirmed for 29 October
I would dearly love Froch to win in this but it looks tough. Is fairly obvious with how infrequently his passport has been needed that the Americans would favour a Ward win and for me even when he wins fights, with the exception of Abraham Froch ships punches and this is a style that makes rounds a little closer than they need to be. Have to think if Froch leaves any rounds close in this one he does not get the nod.
Ward has looked good but not spectacular so he is the unknown in this. The thing I like in Froch is I get the impression that if Ward does try any dirty stuff he might find himself in with someone more than happy to respond in kind and we still don't know how he will react to that. Would back Ward as I think the dice are a little loaded in his favour but will be cheering Carl on and certainly don't write his chances off

i see froch running around a bit trying to get to ward, who will try and pick him off- and can see froch managing to keep him on the ropes or in a corner and forcing a stoppage. i dont think ward will manage to take prologed attacks from froch.

Yes, you can't write off Froch in this one, but it is a tough fight to call, especially as there will be "home town bias". I will be cheering Froch on all the way

Froch is by no means an Earnie Shavers puncher but he hits plenty hard enough. You have to consider the level of opposition he has been facing, they are all top tier guys. Take the bulk of fighters top five or six opponents and look at how many knock outs they have scored and the impressive looking stats soon decrease.

True. Still harsh though you not think? Not one American fighter has left the states in this apart from Taylor and Direll. They did it once each. Froch has fought once at home and then Kessler in Denmark, Abraham in Finland, Johnson in the states and now again with Ward. Ward has fought EVERY fight in the USA. Weird. String pulling like you said. Is it unfair though???

Still in his home country. Even if Froch fought in London, still in his backyard because he will have more support

Its not about Calzaghe. I just never understand why people always pick Froch to get a TKO when he hardly ever does. If Froch wins then it will be by a decision not TKO IMO

Since Scott has mentioned him who must not be named will expand my earlier point by looking at Joes best five opponents.
Lacy - PTS
Eubank - PTS
Kessler - PTS
Hopkins PTS
Reid - PTS
When you fight good fighters the stoppages dry up a little, should also say you could have done the same with most fighters.

Re: Froch - Ward fight confirmed for 29 October
That analogy works in England, not so much in the US. For a Californian vs Englishman, New Jersey is fairly close to a neutral venue in terms of support.d260005p wrote:Scottrf wrote:It's a few thousand miles away from his back yard...d260005p wrote:Why is this fight in his back yard again btw?

Re: Froch - Ward fight confirmed for 29 October
I said a few weeks back that I saw this as a 60:40 fight in Ward's favour, and nothing's changed. Froch is more than capable of winning this one, but he needs an Abraham performance, not a Johnson one. If he goes in to this fight with the mentality that Ward can't hurt him, it could be his undoing.
Granted, Ward's not exactly a power puncher, but he's a strong and robust lad at 168 lb who can score with a lot of eye-catching shots if you give him the opening. Froch can't afford to ship as many punches as he did against Johnson, because unlike Johnson, Ward won't let him throw two or three back in retaliation - he'll grab, spoil and smother after he lands a big shot of his own, as he has done in every other fight so far.
Froch is treading a fine line, here. He needs to take the fight to Ward by all means and take him out of his comfort zone, but he needs to make sure he's not wreckless in doing it. Subtle and consistent pressure like he applied against Abraham is exactly what's needed.
I think it will be more an intriguing rather than exciting fight. The safe money is on a Ward UD, but I'm going to back the (slight) underdog and say that Froch takes it on the cards after hurting Ward a few times late on.

Re: Froch - Ward fight confirmed for 29 October
how can someone who "hardly ever knocks people out" have a 71% KO ration then? Fair play if he has a record like Paulie Magic Man or something, but he aint! He can still bang, even if its not as effective at "World Class", his 71% KO Ratio dont lie.

Confident Froch will pull this out the bag one way or another, think he has enough power to gain the respect of an opponent unless they're Glen Johnson but he doesn't possess true KO power

i only mentioned calzaghe cos i saw the froch1-calzaghe 0 comment, and the rest appeared whilst i was writing my comment. the reason i say froch wins TKO is cos im backing froch more on feelings than actually skill, i dont think he will KO him with a single punch and i dont think he will get a decision over there, so for he his best change is to try and pin him down and force a stoppage.

Sorry. Wont happen again. Just annoys me when some posters bring Calzaghe into this looking for a pro-Welsh rise out of me
All I stated was is that I never understand why people always pick Froch to win by TKO when Jermain Taylor aside all his top wins have come by a decision. Scottrf clearly did not understand this so just brought Calzaghe into play as joker card

For the record and just to please you Froch fan boys I will give a calm opinion of this fight
Froch has every chance of winning this fight. But if he does it will be through pressure fighting. He needs to stalk Ward and cut off his ring space. Be the aggressor and he will get the decision. In fact if I were a betting man my money could well be on Froch. But if Froch wins it will be by decision. Certainly not a KO/TKO in my opinion

Re: Froch - Ward fight confirmed for 29 October
Think even if Froch does what you say Steffan, Ward has the ability to nick rounds through countering as Froch aint too difficult to hit and score against.
Think this could be close but see Ward getting the decision because he's "supposed" to win the competition. Froch could well be shafted hard in the rear by the judges, also the ref will stop Froch doing some juicy stuff on the inside to Ward but will let the American get away with murder (eg. the Kessler fight was a disgrace to boxing). However, got a feeling Ward will edge a close but fair decision.

Id go with whoever said Ward by UD or Froch by KO. Assuming noone gets cut or disqualified I cannot see it going any other way. Wish my credit card wasn't already battered as I would of loved to of made a long weekend of it.

Taking Superboons point that followed this, it is a reasonable appraisal of Froch's chances. I just wouldn't be so quick to dismiss a KO, but it is balanced and considered

Re: Froch - Ward fight confirmed for 29 October
Froch hasn't been able to stop opponents recently because he has been figthing at the highest level against granite chinned fighters
Johnson- who the hell can stop him
Kessler-Has he ever even touched canvas
AA-dropped once off balance in his career
Dirrel-just fell to the floor half the fight
PAscal-never been down
This fight with Ward should be great but if it is competative which it will be Ward will spoil in close and try to make it a fight where he ties up then breaks throw s a couple combos to win the round and spoil again, i want to see neutral judges and a decent ref, Froch should pre empt any home favouratism by making a stink
