Sunday Fixtures Arrrrrggggghhhhhhh
Not seen anything on this but our (Wales) first two fixtures of next season 6 Nations are on a Sunday.
I hate Sunday games as the atmosphere isn't as good as other times, I am not a big fan of Friday night games either but would take one of them over a Sunday game anyday.

For me it was a 50-50 choice between Dublin and Cardiff as a travelling Scotland fan. Since the Ireland game was a Saturday....choice made.

Well we've managed to avoid having Sunday matches for the last few Six Nations tournaments due to us agreeing to have a Friday night match, so it's only fair.

Re: Sunday Fixtures Arrrrrggggghhhhhhh
Sunday games are the ruination of the 6 nations for me. Absolutely detest them. Some people are just into the game and 90 minutes in any weekend day makes no difference to them, but I am into the whole day surrounding 'international day' (as I've posted extensively elsewhere). With work on the Monday for most people, a Sunday is a bit muted. I don't mean that everyone should be going out and getting smashed, but there is something a bit dull about the atmosphere on a sunday. The spirit is not as it is on a saturday and travelling is a harder with work, etc. so there aren't as many fans travelling, some of which just go for the craic without intending to buy a ticket, so the whole thing lacks a certain edge.
Such a shame.
Such a shame.

It worked for years I still can't se the problem of traditional 2.30/3.00 Saturday Kick Offs BUT as we all know TV money talks so if they said a Wednesday evening kick off then a Wednesday evening kick off it would.
Especially if the offered the money grabbers at the WRU more money to do it.

If you plan to spend weekend in the pub then ok yeah it is a good weekend but if you go to the games then it makes travelling and time off that much harder and less fans travel to Sunday games.

Re: Sunday Fixtures Arrrrrggggghhhhhhh
Is it tho?
I mean if a fan is travelling to an away match hes probably making a weekend of it anyway. Most would be more than happy to take a Monday off work.
I dont recall hearing of any Sunday 6N game not selling out. True fans will always go.
I do see your point and obviously in a perfect world all games would be on a Saturday but its not really practical is it?

I can't get the key in the lock by the end of Super Saturday. And then what do I have to soothe my aching head on Sunday? Well I don't have a game of rugby, more's the pity.

Anyway, we should live our lives to the max. Easing off on rugby just because the next day is a work day shows inverted principles and priorities.

A lot of people going to say Dublin or Murrayfield will fly late Friday afternoon early evening which means they can be in work most if not all of that day and return on a Sunday meaning no time off work.
When I last went to Murrayfield for a Sunday there were not as many Welsh fans travelling for that reason.

Re: Sunday Fixtures Arrrrrggggghhhhhhh
Due to my drinking beliefs, I abstain from early morning games, unless of course I can still kick on through the previous night and drink during the game.
I can see the hassle of travelling to games on a Friday or a Sunday in terms of work or getting home late. But at least you still have day games. In NZ they insist on night games because of the television audience and there was the farcical Super some number game in Christchurch where there was so much fog it was like a ghastly 90s night club with a smoke machine.
Sadly this is the price we pay now for the professional game. But I sympathise as it doesn´t mean you have to like it. Then again be thankful you don´t have a Euan Murray who doesn´t play on Sundays for religious beliefs.

Basically, they have taken the decison to phhok over the fans who actually go to 6-N games. They are doing the same with the HC. And have given TV (advertising revenue) precedence, to those who never bother their arrses.
Well done. Good jawb Rupert, the 6-N and HC committees. We thank you for missing work on Mondays and having to take a day off on Fridays... Those of us who still have a job that is.
We are being pished on and are paying heavily for the pleasure.

Still think it would be better if we had 2 matches a weekend for the first 6 weekends and then Super Saturday on the last weekend. Then every match could be on a Saturday, one at 3 and one at 5:30. Everyone wins.
Re: Sunday Fixtures Arrrrrggggghhhhhhh
The BBC, Canal + and SKY pay the bills. They call the shots. The bigger the daily spread, the bigger the gain for them. 6-N games on a Thursday anyone?

Kia, I miss watching games played in daylight in New Zealand and Australia. I remember some Tri Nations matches played in daylight in New Zealand - South Africa were over and they had Gaffie du Toit at outside half - so it's only relatively recently that things have changed.

Gison,
As I have said if the TV Companies offered the money grabbing bar-stewards at the WRU a bigger slice of the profit to play on a Thursday (or any other day) then they would take it.
Then come out with the usual drivel that its good news for us Fans. Bollards

Then the game was in South Africa mate as they have more or less the same timezone as Europe. But I can assure you it´s been night games since the professional era in NZ.

This is true, because of this I would like to officially invite the SARFU to join the 6N.......

No, I'm sure it was in New Zealand. I remember another game where Percy Montgomery had a shocker, and that was played in daylight and definitely in New Zealand.

Well now that you mention it, I do remember seeing a youtube clip of Christian Cullen scoring against the Boks in NZ in daylight. So you´re right but in my defence they have been rarer than hen´s teeth. Which is a shame as the rugby can be so much better as a spectacle in day games.

Re: Sunday Fixtures Arrrrrggggghhhhhhh
They're definitely preferable for me as a viewer here - getting up (or staying up) to watch a match in the early hours adds to the whole occasion, and I'm sure for a domestic audience they're preferable.
I'm glad my memory wasn't playing tricks on me!
