Jp morgan asset management Sevens
I am surprised there has been no mention of the jp morgan asset management sevens.
Last week there was the first round of the tournament. I believe Quins were top with Bath runners up - both qualify for the final. Anyone go to it? Who were the stars?
The 2nd round is taking place this Friday at Franklins Gardens - Gloucester,Wasps,Saracens and Northampton.
Defending champions Saracens have announced their team now.
Saracens Squad for JP Morgan Asset Management Sevens
1. Jackson Wray (captain)
2. Scott Spurling
3. Will Fraser
4 Tom Jubb
5. Matt Hankin
6. Rodd Penney
7. Jean – Baptiste Bruzulier
8. Marcus Watson
9. Chris Wyles
10. James Short
11. Ben Ransom
12. Josh Bassett (Bedford Blues)
Looks like a good team in my opinion. A nice mix. The stars in my opinion are Chris Wyles (AP winner and ex USA sevens captain), Jackson Wray (part of last year's team in this competition), James Short (AP winner), Ben Ransom (England U20s this season and part of last year's squad), Rodd Penney (experienced operator) and Marcus Watson (new signing from London Irish academy, hasn't he been called up for England sevens?
Any thoughts on the competition? What are the other line ups? Who do you think will win?

Re: Jp morgan asset management Sevens
Exe drew with London Irish, lost heavily to a v strong Quins line-up (humped everyone), and gave Bath a LBP in the last game which allowed them to progress at the expense of the Chiefs. The only near first-teamer we sent up was Mark Forster to give him much needed contact time on his return from his broken leg; otherwise it was squad players, academy lads and one or two still at high school. Not taken that seriously tbh

I went to the bath leg and was really disappointed by the quality of players. I know its poor timing and largely academy boys, but at least Sarries have made an effort to win it and put in some quality like Wyles and Short!
Players that impressed me at the rec:
Ross Chisholm (Quins)
Henry Slade (Exeter)
Guy Armitage (LI)
Lindsay-Hague (Exeter)

Re: Jp morgan asset management Sevens
I know last year that Tigers didn't take it at all seriously and put out an academy side which included several trialists. Hope they take it a little more seriously this year. Last year George Ford was very much on his own.
With the likes of Lewington, Forsyth (England under 20s), Tait, Ford and de Carpienter (England Sevens and England Students) we could have a young team that could do alright.
Sarries look to be sending out quite a decent team again. Certainly won't lack pace.

Isn't Ollie Lindsay-Hague with Quins?

Yeah probably, couldn't remember exactly. To be honest, spent most of the evening in the JP Morgan beer tent!

Re: Jp morgan asset management Sevens
aslongasbut100 thanks for the summary.
What was the Quins side?
I will be surprised if Saracens don't win their pool with that team. We won all our matches last season in this competition. We do take it seriously - didn't take the Middlesex sevens seriously though.
Sam certainly agree with you there! Basically the whole side consists of full backs and wingers!
Bathite I am surprised London Irish got knocked out.

Bath shouldn't have gone through, were the worst side there i thought, half the reason i lost interest, along with the free bar. Irish and Quins seemed much more dominant and Ex had periods of inspiration but a lot of turnovers

Wallace and Cheeseman are supposed to be players with serious potential though I don't know a great deal abou them. The name Chris Mayor has cropped up before as well. Ryan Davis has AP experience and should guide the side pretty well.

Re: Jp morgan asset management Sevens
I can see a Quins v Saracens final to be honest, a lot of that is because other teams don't take it as seriously but also Quins have a very good academy and loads of young quick players to give game time too and Saracens have a big squad and will want to keep alot of the non internationals happy and on form.

Re: Jp morgan asset management Sevens
That is a strong Sarries side and they must be heavy favourites. Quins have put out a decent side too.
Glaws clearly aren't focusing much on this as the squad is off to Portugal next week, so none of them have been picked!
Our team is:
Olly Robinson, Reuben Haile, Gareth Evans, Rob Langley, Kobus du Rand, Waylon Gasson, Mark Woodrow, Ian Clark, Dan Robson, Ryan Brend, Fred Burdon, Kyle Palm
Dan Robson is the only one in the senior squad and he has a whopping 2 substitute appearances to his name! It should be a good learning experience for them, but I am expecting Glaws to go no further than this group.
