Scotland name 7s squad for IRB world series
Scotland have named their full-time, 12-man 7s squad for the upcoming IRB world series: Scotland 7s squad - Struan Dewar, James Eddie (released by Glasgow Warriors at the end of last season), James Fleming, Colin Gregor, Peter Horne and Andrew Turnbull, plus from Scottish Rugby’s Elite Development players, Adam Ashe, Sam Hidalgo Clyne, Kerr Gossman, Rory Hughes, Sean Kennedy and Hamish Watson

I'd completely forgotten about James Fleming, but when he burst onto the scene he received rave reviews for not only pace and some decent skills as well.
Glasgow could use a fast and elusive winger, at least whilst DTH is at the WC, I wonder if Fleming could be given an opportunity (he trained with them last season as well). He's exactly the sort of player that should benefit from us retaining the 7's.

Glad James Eddie has found a contract but I wouldn't say 7's is really his game! Unlike Turnbull, who is amazing at 7's but not so good at 15's. I hope they manage to get Fedo involved too - was extremely impressed with him when I saw them at Murrayfield this year.

Agreed on Eddie, not really his natural forum, but I guess it's a good way for him to regain his fitness, and perhaps put him in the shop window for a contract elsewhere. I'm pleased the SRU haven't completely discarded him. He's a decent player.

Just seen on the Glasgow website that James Eddie is going to train with them and be available to play for them during the 7's season downtime. Good news.

I was a big fan of Eddie and thought he was discarded with indecent haste when recovering from injury. then again the SRUs treatment of injured players in the pro era - starting with Richard Metcalf - resonates with the mill owners in the industrial revolution. Maybe the new SRU guys can make amends there.
Hope Eddie gets back to full fitness, he will strengthen most pro-squads in the NH.

Well he'll certainly strengthen Glasgow. If Rob Harley were to pick up an injury, there isn't really an experienced hand to cover (and Harley is hardly experienced himself, and entering the dreaded second season). I predict he'll prove a few people wrong.
Richard Metcalf, now there's a blast from the past. An enormous mountain of a man. A prequel to Jim Hamilton really.
