Football Qualifers RD3/4- Revenge of the Mourne?
First topic message reminder :
Predictions for this weeks qualifiers in the championship football-
Round 3-
Trone V oor ma- Red hands by 9
Round 4-
Kildare V Derry- Kildare by 11
Limerick V Wexford- Wexford by 3
And undoubtedly the pick of the week Cork V Down-
No confirmations of the an dun team but here are dork's starters-
Quirke
O'Sullivain- Canty- Shields
O'Leary- Miskella- Kissane
O'Connor- Walsh
Goold- Kelly- O'Neil
Goulding- O'Connor- Kerrigan
After reading the comments of Kevin McKernan and his boss McCartan it is clear that Down obviously are right up for this and will put up a good fight. The mourne men could also have Ambrose Rodgers, Liam Doyle and Danny Hughes fit for the match. Even so I don't think it will be enough to stop a hungry rebels team that is looking pretty strong and Down haven't been as convincing. Cork bring in Fintan Goold into their half-forwards to replace the injured sheehan and am expecting a good performance from the likes of Graham Canty, John Miskella and the forwards. Should make good viewing on TSG next week- Dork by 10

3 in a row for O'Connor. Down Sub as McCardle clears the way for Ambrose Rodgers.
2-11 to 0-10 now after a point from Fintan Goold. Down struggling to contain these Cork forwards now, four unanswered points for Cork.
Noel O'Leary yellad for fouling Marty Clarke, free kick.....drops short.

Sublime performance in front of goal for donncha as he puts another one over as the Cork fans can be heard playing the pipes around the ground-

First score for Down in 17mins. 2-15 to 0-11
Still all Cork though.
And just as I say that Down come in looking for goal but need to settle for a point.

Cork sub Walsh off for Collins.
2-17 to 0-12 after Walsh score. Down playing a bad game of outdoor basketball and going nowhere.

I missed the first 15/20 mins Cari but it looks like he started.
A goal chance for Down Ambrose charging past the defenders hits a shot!!
Over the bar, 2-17 to 0-13
Make that 2-17 to 0-14.

Don't worry you'll see him again. No doubt about this one now. The fire has well and truly been stuffed out of this match.

Final whistle goes. Down are not just down anymore but they're out too.
2-20 to 0-16
Aye, no doubt we'll never hear the end of it when he comes back. And he can thank me for filling in with his live scores job.

As a proud Limerick man i would like to say one thing
'Get in there!'
Great to see us prove that we can survive injury to our best player and all the close run things with Cork/Kerry over the years have stood us well.

Re: Football Qualifers RD3/4- Revenge of the Mourne?
Ar aghaidh le cheile was saying that Down would win by 3/4 points
Good performance still plenty to work on,Down were poor but I would be happy with how we limited the likes of Clarke and Coulter and we actually got goals. Clarke lacks the bottle for the big time! Wouldn't fancy the Dubs in the quarters maybe the semis. Although there is a format for the semis is it Munster V Connacht and Leinster V Ulster?

Re: Football Qualifers RD3/4- Revenge of the Mourne?
Cork were good but I have to say no offence to any Down people on here but Down were pitiful, I actually thought Down were pretty good to watch before yesterday but they overdone the short handpass game and they were awful to watch.
There was 11/12 (not sure) yellow card's in that game and it was not a dirty game at all. Theese ref's or the people who are in charge of them are destroying the game as if it's not becoming boring already with excessive handpasses you have theese fussy ref's dishing out yellow card's for fun.

Re: Football Qualifers RD3/4- Revenge of the Mourne?
I had a lovely day.
Kildare were faster, fitter sharper than derry. computer brain Brennan had a serious malfunction with the derry kickout strategy. Landing everything into a midfield that was getting no breaking ball at all.
A certain Jim McGuinness was sat in the Hogan watching the game looking more like Liam Gallagher than Mick O'Dwyer.
It was clear enough early on that Cork were much the better side. Marty Clarke should have been sent off very early on. It looked as clear as day to me that he punched our noellie.
a huge worry is goulding now. I haven't seen anything about it yet but he looked to be struggling badly. Our strength in depth is getting a real test at the minute.
i had the joy of passing out brolly on the way back up the road. I took the opportunity to roar at him out the window. totally childish, but so is he .

I'd take it.
There is merit in all the games we could get.
Injuries are a worry but I'd take anyone.
