Tiger woods to play Firestone
Read this on the rte site this morning.I cant get a link because my iPhone is playing up a bit.All will be revealed next week about caddy and everything.I'm pretty sure he'd be happy if all he did was beat his own score last year

Perhaps Super Realist could offer to caddy for him. I'm sure he'd have good advice to convey about course management and demeanour
On the minus side, presumably it means that we'll get to see very little of whoever is actually winning or doing well, at least until the weekend, if Woods play as he has been anytime recently he has teed it up. Or maybe we'll get to see re-runs of his thurday and friday rounds on saturday and sunday nights

Desperado, don't forget the ad nauseum slow mo, extensive coverage of forlorn looks, bum scratching and over the top hyperbole about him. I imagine the broadcast could well be unwatchable for fans of golf.

Woods was always going to make his comeback at the WGC, no chance of his missing a cut as there isn't one. Also the caddy issue already done and dusted he's going to have Byron Bell on his bag again

Re: Tiger woods to play Firestone
Surely if he was playing as 'well' as he has been in anything of late, he would be quite grateful for a cut on friday night.
I guess he could always retire hurt again.
The coverage has been quite good lately on the telly. I guess that's about to change

Please could someone enlighten me as to who Byron Bell is? Mav, you say 'again' so i'm assuming he's caddied for Woods before? I've never heard of him

He's caddied for Woods a few times before and happens to be a close friend of Woods and also I believe helps run the marketing arm of his TW branding

It will make good viewing if Tiger and Steve Williams end up in the same group at some stage of the tournament

the PGA have been choosing petty interesting pairings of late so i wouldnt be all that surprised if Scott and Woods were put together! ive never heard of this Byron Bell fella either.

Byron Bell is a "childhood friend" who has caddied for Woods a few times before and is currently President of the Woods design company.

Don't know about "friends" hend but he is certainly running out of confidants. And Bell has always been one of the few he's kept at his side.

Sam Torrance also, shares in Kleenex will rocket this weekend.

Thankfully Torrance won't be on the Sky coverage. Roe will (probably)

Wouldn't want to be Torrance's neighbour. Steamy windows and screams of extacy all weekend long.

Although presumably you wouldn't want to be Torrance's neighbour for more reasons than just this?

Super, although i agree the sycophantic coverage is excessive, you have to say that it would be good for golf to have the game's (sport's?) best player back playing competitively. Even in the last couple of years he has played some thrilling golf over short stretches.

Ray, what exactly has been wrong with Golf in his absence? In what way would it be better, assuming you are not a TV or advertising executive. I think it's been much better, and it will not affect me in the slightest were he never to return, except that i'd enjoy televised golf a lot more.

Re: Tiger woods to play Firestone
I think it may be better if he comes back playing well, and is competing with the best the tour has to offer. I am no more a fan of Woods than s_r but fierce competition at the top of leaderboards is presumably what we all want to see.
I suspect what will actually happen though, is that in spite of not playing particularly well, we will follow him out of the locker room onto the first tee, and then see every nano second of his round (probably replays of every shot as well), him walking between shots, eating bananas etc etc etc to the detriment of seeing anything else and anyone who is competitive.
And in between shots we'll cut to the studio and have the usual collection of sycophants wetting themselves about his return, and talking ad nauseam about stack and tilt etc etc etc
