The Best Slam to Win?
The Slams
Winning one of the 4 majors is a great achievement for a player, but which of the slams do you think they prefer to win?
Does the crowd atmosphere play a part to make the tournament even more special.
Is it based on the history of the tournament to join the previous tennis greats in being champion there?

Re: The Slams
Tee Hee I iz 100 % correct again !
There is no other tournament that can hold a candle to
Wimbledon in either the Historical or Kudos stakes.
It is THE Slam that Everyone wants to win - No Argument !!!!!!!!
The atmosphere is fantastic, WHAT a knowledgeable crowd , and
Nowhere else has a grass court so lovingly prepared by
the Ground Crew.
Given a Hot Sunny Day with LOADS of Pimms, Strawberries and
Cream NOTHING can beat it.

Wimbedlon, has the history and the name recognition even to people who don't know or follow tennis.

Re: The Slams
You said that you like Wimbledon but probably don't know much of what is Wimpledon all about. I personally HATE with all my heart Wimbledon for the following reasons:
- Never ending rain delays that leave you wandering in the mist with a pint of Pimm's in your hand for hours and hours.
- Nadal fangirls screaming ( and spitting) in your ear even when the local hero is on court
- Old ladies dropping icecreams on your waistcote
- People disorderly queuing to enter courts where there's no match left to play
- Spectator leaving their sits to grab a quick hot dog and waving hands to the cam on returning thus causing endless delays and widespread consternation.
For all of those reason I believe the US Open is much better tournament and I strongly suspect the Australian Open is better as well.

Well, I have never attended, I am sorry you have had these nightmare experiences with old ice cream dripping ladies, sounds quite terrifying. I am just going on name recognition and history I suppose. Never been to a grandslam live myself, just a few master's in indian wells and the lowly LA tournament.

Re: The Slams
I have voted Wimbledon because it is the oldest tennis tournament that is still going, plus its tradition and surface.
Having been to all 4 Grand Slams as well as watched them on television for over 25 years I would rank them in the following order.
1. WIM
2. RG
3. USO
4. AO
I imagine almost all Americans would rank the USO as 1st but for me it loses points because of the final set tie break, the crowd moving about and making noise during play and the main stadium having too many seats meaning the spectators at the back (or should I say top) can't really see what's going on.
Some might think of these points as good things about the USO but I disagree.

Another thing that counts against the US Open - the dreadful Super Saturday.

Re: The Slams
Damn straight craig, it does provide for good viewing on the weekend but it is highly unfair to the players of the second men's semi. And judging by how Novak gets Roger in every single grandslam in his half, and how if they are to meet in the semi they will certainly be the headline semi that plays at night, it is a huge disadvantage. Hopefully, it will be fair this year and Rafa gets Roger in his half for the first time, basically since the french open of 2005. I would be interested if someone could find out the statistics of the winning percentage of the player who played the second semi.
I would still however rate the USO as being the second most important slam. It is the second oldest, less specialists and one slam wonders win it. It comes at the end of the year, the US is still the biggest market in the sport winning the US open gives a player instant name recognition in that valuable market. It has its problems, in terms of the awful crowd and poor late scheduling. But I think in general people view it as being the second biggest slam.
