Is Yesteryear The Future? Empty Is Yesteryear The Future?

Quite interesting debates in the past about how bringing together great wrestlers from the past against the current generation of potential greats. Some people have what would've been their dream matches and sometimes wrestling organisations are able to obliege. This though can sometimes bring Iconic moments, such as the stare down between The Rock and Hogan at WM18 and sometimes bring unwanted memories such as Goldberg v Lesnar, which even Stone Cold Steve Austin could not save as a guest referee. Sometimes the matches can actually surprise people. Flair v HBK at WM24 was actually a top match considering that Flair hadn't put much of a decent match on in years and he turned the clock back and it wasn't so much HBK having to carry him either. Sabu v Terry Funk was another match that was epic. Benoit v Bret Hart on WCW Nitro was amazing.

Sometimes the matches can be a let down. Big Show v Great Khali. When you said it, you couldn't help think this shall be interesting. 2 giants. Khali not being the most mobile athlete stunk the place out. Nash v Big Show on the other hand was much better and it was shame about the injury at the end.

The Rock's return for WM28 against John Cena has certainly been the hot story this year. Question is it the way forward for the WWE? Can it deliver as being the must see all action match everyone is expecting? As a spectacle it will deliver no doubt if the Rock is involved. If Cena was to be the rapping heel of 03-04, his reception would be massive too.

Many people would love to Punk v Austin, but again with Austin's injuries in the past, could he still compete? The next breakthrough star will no doubt be touted to face Edge if he becomes funny on the mic and an 'opportunist'

Can wrestling though on it's own with it's stars actually put on a Wrestlemania without the need of past greats to add glitter to the show? I think it can.
