Triple Crown - It woulda/coulda/shoulda been ...
The UK Triple Crown was recently mentioned in another thread. For whatever reason they didn't, which non-winners of the TC ought to have won it?

ROYAL PALACE in 67 was an absolute shoe in in the Leger but injury prevented him from taking part.It says it all that Ribocco won that seasons renewal, having already been put in his place by Noel Murless' charge.A very, very under rated colt who proved his worth with an exemplary 4yo campaign including a thrilling win in the 68 Eclipse(beating Sir Ivor and Taj Dewan).

Sea The Stars would have walked the St Leger a few years ago if he went for the race.

If Sea the Stars had gone for the Leger and won it he would have been a less viable stud alternative, that is the only reason the horses dont go for it anymore, they get cast as a NH stallion. You look at the Leger winners who are at stud and the majority are looked upon as jumping sires,we are gradually breeding stamina out of the modern day racehorse,we are becoming "Americanized" in the want for 10f performers.

By "want" do you mean "prefer" or "lack"?

It doesnt take much working out does it? All the breeding operations want 10f performers.Take Workforce during this season as a prime example,Derby and Arc winner,so absolute top class 12 f form, all of a sudden the connections come out with "we would love to win a group 1 10f race with him",why? All horses have optimum trips, his is without question 12f,so why try and make him something he isnt.It is only to make him more attractive to potential breeders,so therefore its down to money, not racing.

As we all know breeding isn't an exact science. Isn't it wonderful that the top sire Galileo was a 12f horse par excellence.
