Beer for breakfast Get used to it.
You can't deny that this won't happen come the RWC.
I guess that the the link between rugby and the breweries won't be broken.
So set your standards high : no beer for breakfast before the semi-finals.

Port,
That would be setting standards in an unrealistic place. Beer for breakfast at the right time, and with god's holy purpose (Rugby) is a giood thing. Since for me it is rare, it is something to be savoured.

Re: Beer for breakfast Get used to it.
Actually I wish it was beer for breakfast time starts as over here it's 2.30 / 3.30 / 4.30 am kick off's. To make matters worse the first England game on the 10th is the day after my birthday which due to the time difference means it's basically the same night. 5 years ago I would have been rubbing my hands together at the prospect of a birthday session running on into a late night game but now I'm into my mid thirties there are only 2 ways I can think of actually still being awake to see the game.
a) Acquire some kind of South American stimulant to stay awake (not likely, too old, too tight and the Mrs would kill me if she found out. Again maybe 5 years ago....)
b) Take it steady drinks wise during the night, slip off to bed about 11 and get 3 hours kip before kick off, returning to bed after the game ends. Boring but probable.
May even log into the chat feature if it's up and running. Beats discussing with the dog why England have so much possession and yet no points to show for it. Not sure if I would have beer at breakfast before the later stages or not if I was still in England. In 2003 I was in Singapore for most of the tournament so the games kicked off early evening making a few beers a forgone conclusion. Maybe if I was in England a few ciders would work with the early starts, I sometimes like apple juice in a morning.

I have exams up until the quarters so, eh, lots of cheap red bull knock off's during the games for me I think .... it won't be pretty! Ever seen what happened to Will in the inbetweeners when he went down that road?

Yeah, have to say I don't know what they were thinking with "Croissants and summer berry fruits and cream."

When it says 'European Style breakfast beer', I presume the idea was come up with after a trip to Oktober fest? Either that or someone's idea of Europe is wholly influenced by stag do's!

Can't think of a better way to start a birthday. If you were closer I'd get the first round in!

Your priorities are in the wrong place, mate. This is Rugby. The Rugby World Cup! Mulit-task for god's sake: beer and red bull - together.mrsuperclear wrote:I have exams up until the quarters so, eh, lots of cheap red bull knock off's during the games for me I think .... it won't be pretty! If you visualise it you CAN do it, you WILL be able to do it.

I watched the entire 2003 WC sober, even the final, i'm not proud of the fact. But this time i intend to take a few days off and do it in style.

Great White, I know I upset you yesterday so I'm trying to behave but it's so tempting to say: "A couple of days should be enough". But I won't, in case you take it the wrong way.

Well, one thing's for sure, you wont have to watch the final either, so that'll be two of us.

Actually, it's much more relaxing watching the final as a neutral. In the nicest way, I sincerely hope you get the chance, soon.

You've probably forgotten what its like to watch the WC final and have a vested interest in it, ah bless. In the nicest way, I sincerely hope you get the chance, soon.

I just hope that at home, the NZRFU discard the silly policy of letting other teams win "for the good of the sport". Magnanimous and forward thinking, but ultimately it does devalue the competition when other teams realise they've had a leg up.

I wonder how many posters on here weren't even born when NZ last won the Webb Ellis cup?
The All Blacks have to be the most overrated team in any sport ever!!!

Re: Beer for breakfast Get used to it.
Yes that over-rated #1 position for consistently maintaining an 80% win ratio certainly seems undeserved doesn't it? Perhaps the IRB should adjust the ratings to promote teams who consistently learn more from defeat, take the positives, get on the wrong side of the score board, notch up some majestic moral victories, take a lap of honour when they don't lose by too much and managed to win a world cup once as well.

Calm down GG.
It's beginning to look like years of failure at the RWC are beginning to get to you, relax, you already have it in the bag this time

Frankly with all those kiwis in your team, if you think we're weak willed you might be in serious trouble...especially if you're wearing your black kit in the semi finals as insinuated by the RFU.

OK all, before various people trot every single tired England/NZ rugby cliche out onto this thread (we're well on the way thanks GG/GW/Bath), how's about we take it back on-topic.

I agree.
So...Beer for breakfast.
Preference?
Personally I prefer a beer with integrity, one that knows where it comes from and does what it says on the tin.
Anyone?

XXXX - weak and never settles well.
Steinlager - Prides itself to be one of the best, or so they think!
1664 - On its day it's one of the best, but more often than not there are better options around
Castle - Not bad, but not great
Brains - OK but lacks taste, and is sometimes over hyped.
Guinness - Much loved by many, but just takes too long to do it right, not everyone’s cup of tea.
John Smiths - no nonsense, drink enough and it will do the job, you might even begin to love it.
Tennants – No no no, all wrong.
Peroni – Nice to have from time to time but ends up leaving you empty, could do better.

I've been getting into peroni recently, very tasty beer. Even nicer on tap but will set you back a fair bit.
