Director of Coaching, Scott Johnson, commented:
"Sunday will be about stepping up our preparations for the new season, with some more of the senior guys coming into get some action at the Liberty. Training has gone well but there's no substitute for game time and the guys are busting a gut to get the shirt on and get out there onto the paddock.
"It's going to be an interesting occasion, make no mistake about that. It's an international team coming to the Liberty, something that doesn't happen every day, and I hope that the fans who come here will get behind us and make themselves heard as they always do. We want to build something special as a group, and that includes the supporters, the people of Ospreylia. They are our cause, and everything we do this season will be for them.
"The team definitely has a more familiar feel to it than last week against Lyon, but we've rewarded one or two boys who were involved in that game like we said we would. It's a time of year when everybody is excited, anticipation is high and there's a lot of competition for places, and we are aiming to keep that feeling in the group.
"There's a lot of good kids in this group, all proud to be wearing the shirt and keen to establish themselves as Ospreys and it's been pretty refreshing working with them. We'll see what some of them can do on Sunday when they come up against a Russia side that is gearing up for the World Cup and has already shown this summer that they are capable of hurting teams given half a chance so we know that the boys will have to be on top of their game.
"With our internationals away during the World Cup, it's a fantastic opportunity for these players to make a name for themselves. We saw what they were capable of at stages last season when they were involved in our LV= Cup campaign really embracing the kind of game we want to establish as the Ospreys way and getting fans onto their feet in excitement. While we want them to kick on this season, it's important that they continue to train well, know their roles and work as a team. If they do that, then they'll have a fighting chance of representing the Ospreys for a long time to come."
The coaches of the Russian national team have named the side which will take on Welsh regional side the Ospreys on Sunday, August 21.
The game kicks-off at 15:00 local time and offers the coaches a last chance to observe players in a match environment before the deadline to announce a 30-man squad for the Rugby World Cup on August 22.
An extended squad of 26 has been named for the game, with a strong starting line-up.
Vladislav Korshunov returns as captain and as hooker following a broken nose in training, and also returning from injury is Andrey Ostrikov, who has recovered from a shoulder injury. He is joined in the second row by Alexander Voytov, who makes his first appearance on tour.
However, fellow second row Adam Byrnes is still experiencing some discomfort from an existing injury, as is Vladimir Ostroushko. Both are expected to be fit for the final tour game against Gloucester on August 26.

To be honest nobody really stood out.
Russia were a lot better as a team, than they were against Newport on Tuesday, though not too many of them stood out individually.
The stadium was empty though, I did have a bit of fun because despite there being about 17,000 free seats, the office still managed to double book the seats in the row in front, and a group of season ticket holders were arguing with a couple who sounded like they were from Sandfields, that argument and the woman storming off to get a steward was worth the admission alone.
I thought Dirksen was playing well and was trying to impress.
Duncan Jones was all over the field and looking a really solid player again.
Ian Evans was his usual nasty self, throwing his size around.
Rhys Webb had a good game, behind a dominant pack, and tried to attack, look for gaps and got the ball away quickly a lot of the time.
Though if any club are looking for an outstanding winger than Denis Simplikevich could well be a good signing. He looks like he has real class.

You off to the Leeds game on Tuesday at Rodney Parade? I'm thinking of being nice to my partner tonight so she will come with me, unless I can rope in one of my brother in laws to come and see it.
Actually for the record my man of the match was the number 9 on the Purple team, who played for the Mini kids team during the half time interval, outstanding young player, nippy as hell and scored a lot of tries, looks like a young Shane Williams to be honest.

Anyone notice how much the Ospreys "fans" got on Biggar's back today, any error no matter how minor seemed to generate a lot of heckles and boos, and Matthew Morgan got a massive ovation when he came on and a lot of ironic cheers.

Re: Ospreys 46- 19 Russia
I was there. Nice to see the usual crowd around our seats. More laughs coming up this season Altho for this game, er sneaked up a tier. The game was very enjoyable for a pre season match. Webb, dirksen and Issacs really stood out. The scrum and pack did well, marching the reds up the field a few times. Biggar did ok. His field kicking was pretty dire as usual. I think there's def an anti DB crowd amonst the fans. Catcalls when he makes an error and ironic cheers when he's subbed. Shame really. The kid needs our support, not grief.

The only one that can get the fans back on his side is Biggar himself.

Dragons, not Newport. Stop being so ignorant. You were allegedly at Rodney on Tuesday, yet you still persist with Newport. Nobody at RP shouts it, so where does Newport come from?

Does it really matter what the region is called?
I simply see the regions as being Llanelli, Swansea, Cardiff and Newport because that is where they are all based. Stop thinking people are trying to divide the fans of your region when they call a spade a spade.
They play at Rodney Parade, they play in black and amber, and they have Newport in their name.

Re: Ospreys 46- 19 Russia
If you were really there Tuesday you'd have struggled to have seen much Amber on their kit. Does red look like Amber to you? It's funny then how I've yet to see you call the Ospreys, Swansea.
It's quite a pity that Russia seem likely to lose by at least forty every game.

I don't think talent is the problem with Russia just exposure, If a lot of their players played at Magners standard every week, they'd soon be fine, there are at least 6-7 players in the team that played the Dragons who could step up. I do worry what Australia will do to them though in the World Cup.

To be frank, I don't really give a toss what your or Risca's opinion is on this issue.
The region is called Newport-Gwent Dragons, and whether I choose to call them Newport, Gwent or the Dragons is no ones business but mine, if you or Risca or anyone else choose to take one word in a topic I post, and wish to make a argument about it, then your the ones "stirring".
You just nit-picking for the hell of it.
Either post something useful about Russia, or one of the regions involved against them, or leave the topic alone and stop taking it off track with pathetic, childish discussions about the name of a region.

Childish winding-up has no place on a sensible Rugby forum. You have been told previously of the offence that your misnaming of the Newport Gwent Dragons has caused but you choose to continue with it.Grow up.mun!
If you get a thrill from causing offence to others you clearly lack the social graces.Hopefully the mods will keep an eye on you.

Exactly what part of my post was aimed at winding a Dragons fan up?
Risca is the one who decided to pick one word out of my post and have a hissy fit over it, as I clearly stated I don't give a toss what their called or how their refered to and when I'm writing something I will call them whatever I like, not to wind any one up, but simply because it's convenient at the time, if I hurt you'rs or Risca's feelings simply by calling Newport-Gwent Dragons, Newport then live with it.

Oh dear.I hate to refer you to a thread started impishly by Red Stag to which you contributed on exactly this topic. You managed then to call the Dragons by the correct name but now you choose to adopt an attitude. If you "do not give a toss what their called " I cannot see why you are unable to use the accepted name all the time.Have you got issues? If you knowingly seek to offend people it speaks volumes about your character.Nice guy.

Re: Ospreys 46- 19 Russia
To be honest this will be the last post i make on this topic and i wont be reading any replies.
I dont refer to Newport Gwent dragons as Newport to wind anyone up, I simply write what is in my mind at the time, I might write Newport, I might write Dragons, I dont see how anyone can be offended either way, and I find it pathetic to be frank that anyone could. the full name of the region is Newport, Gwent Dragons, they play in Newport at Rodney Parade, they play in the same or at least similar colours to their predecessor prior to regionalism.
It's not as if the sun wont come up tomorrow if someone calls them Newport, and it's not as if no fans wont come to them from outside Newport if someone on a forum refers to them as Newport.
Sadly some of you on this forum have a very little world to live in, with too much time on your hands to be offended by silly things. I have never come across anyone being offended on any other rugby forum when someone refers to the Dragons as Newport, and I doubt anyone at Rodney Parade really cares either way. Though I might take the time to ask tomorrow if I manage to get down there for the Leeds game.

I've already questioned how you can't tell the difference between a black and red top and a black and Amber top. It just proves your ignorance. I'm not offended, nor did I have a hissy fit but seeing as three people have mentioned about you calling them Newport, then maybe the problem is yours.
If you want to ask about the Newport thing tomorrow then good luck. I've seen it discussed before and the majority of supporters agree. I hope you do go tomorrow so I can tell you how ignorant you are and I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one.

Risca,I have ultimate faith in Care in the Community. They can do wonders theses days.In the bad old days simpletons used to be locked up in institutions but things have moved on.
Some small people revel in causing upset amongst others.Modern society has it that they should be tolerated as they are doing nothing wrong. This may lead to looting/rioting eventually.Ooops ...hang on a minute. As you can see I have attempted rationalising with the fella but he isnt having it.The Moderators think that he is the business and we are wrong to be upset.Funny old world.
