A Way To Improve Fight Cards
Good Afternoon Gentlemen, hope all is well with you all.
I was reading Evan Fields article about debut fight cards and it got me thinking how sometimes the public get short changed in terms of an overall fight card i.e. Haye Vs Harrison, people were asked to pay £15 for them two plus Groves Vs Anderson, now i am a massive Groves fan but asking £15 for 2 fights that people werent calling for in the first place is a disgrace but warrens first magnificent seven card was brilliant.
So my idea is should the powers that be bring in a point system that promoters need to adhere to in order for the public to get value for money?
It would work similar to a Uni application, i.e. you need so many points to get into certain Universitys, so using something similar to Boxrecs point system as a guide, a promoter has to have 50 points or over per card and 80 points or over per ppv card.
(please note this is just an example not my actual thoughts on what a fighters value is worth) So as an example we will use the failed Murray Vs Mitchell Match – Murray would be 6 points (undefeated plus champion) + Mitchell – 5 points + title fight – 5 points = 16 points for one match up so the promoter would need either big names on the card to bump up the numbers or a more deeper under card to get up to 50 points.
Do you think this system could work, now obviously the sticking point would be how to assign points but in principle could this work? and also how would you work out the point system? World ranking Vs Drawing power Vs Record?
Looking forward to your thoughts
