Froch v Kessler - fight week poll and opinions
Fight week!!! Froch poll and opinions!!!FIGHT THREAD. SPOILERS
I think there was another poll, but let's start a fresh!
Who wins?
How?
Entertainment factor?
Where do they go after?
Let me say this. Froch wins, TKO, in a war that matches the Hatton v Kosta bout for epicness.
War Froch! War Boxing! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR!

Re: Fight week!!! Froch poll and opinions!!!FIGHT THREAD. SPOILERS
This will be a bloody was IMO. Both men will have their moments, both will dhow stupid amounts of heart. However, IF Froch fights like he did aginst Bute, unloads like he did, shows similar improved speed, then he wins. That will be the difference. However... Kessler can bang, and Froch took some stiff blows last time out much like Kessler.
For me, Froch by late TKO or UD.
Just.
Behind the Ropes is on tonight and tomorrow, someone please post youtube links

They rank him top ten because he has fought regularly claimed 3 world titles and has beaten at least 4 people who were ranked within at least the top 8 of the Super Middleweight rankings at the time of fighting them. Add to that his string of decent 2nd tier victories and I don't see any reason why he shouldn't be ahead of the likes of -
Tim Bradley, Robert Guerrero, Adrian Broner, Saul Alvarez etc.

Kessler really is ordinary..........Calzaghe showed that!!
If Froch wants a legacy of standing he really should be beating the Mikkels of this World..
Froch by late stoppage.

Wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to be a more cagey affair than the blood and guts war that's expected. I'll pick Froch by UD , built off the back foot .

How is Kessler ordinary. Calzaghe hardly pitched a shut out against him did he?
He's a good fighter, if you think he is ordinary then you must only rate about 10 fighters on the planet now.

Heart is saying Froch, head saying Kessler. Since the first fight Carl has fought 40 + rounds, Kessler has only fought 13. I feel that all the wars and 12 rounders, plus the extra year are going to catch up with soon. I hope not though. Gone with heart.

Calzaghe has said Kessler was his toughest ever opponent.
Not bad for an ordinary fighter who has also already beaten Froch.

Froch early-mid stoppage, Kessler will be overwhelmed by crowd ref will jump in once Froch lets go with his bombs. Besides Andre Ward is 'streets' ahead of anybody in that weight division.

Just on Oddschecker:
2/1 Kessler to win by any method
9/2 Kessler by decision
Great value there, the odds look like they are being distorted by the the English lumping in on Frock.

I really think Carl's gonna stop him early. I think Froch is in the form of his life & Kessler has declined recently
Unfortunately if my previous form is anything to go by that probably means the opposite's gonna happen!

Totally agree strongy mate, obviously would like Froch to win but I just feel Kessler is the smoother operator and wins a tight one I'm afraid.
Tempting odds might be worth a double with Chilemba as he looks real value.

He's certainly no Guerrero, Rodney.
In all honesty, how does a fighter like Guerrero get an alleged top10 spot when fighters like Kessler are no where to be seen. I know who I think is the better fighter.

Think Ward is head and shoulders above, Steffan. Between him and Froch for the number 2 spot but think ultimately they will both fall short.
I don't want either of them to fight Ward, he's a boring fighter. Winner should face Clev, who for all is faults is still a decent watch. They both win mind, Kessler probably by KO.

Going for a Kessler majority decision, but he's going to have to significantly outclass Froch to overcome the hometown call. He has the quality though, great fighter. Not that Froch isn't, of course.
I'm surprised that so many people are going for a Froch stoppage!

Re: Fight week!!! Froch poll and opinions!!!FIGHT THREAD. SPOILERS
Erm, that might be because froch won the second half of the fight, when Taylor gassed. If you don't think he was being completely outboxed, then fair enough. Thanks for the reminder on the distance of championship fights. Always good to get put straight by an expert.
My point which I've made pretty clear twice know, is that he was close to defeat in that fight and one other. if you balloted objective boxing fans my view from comments read is more might suggest he'd lost 3 fights than lost just 1, as boxingfan suggested.
My own view as I've already stated is that he clearly lost 2 and the dirrell fight could have gone either way.
I'm calling it how I see it, the fact that you think every single boxing fan apart from myself and Froch thought he lost that fight shows that you lack any sort of objective view on the subject. I'm fine with a draw in that fight or a close decision either way, it wasn't a schooling. I thought Froch won, but I have seen plenty of people who saw it for Froch and for Kessler as well, that's why we have a rematch!
As for Taylor, it doesn't matter if he knocks him out in the 12th round or the 1st round its a 12 round fight. Do you hold that opinion over the Taylor vs Chavez fight, where Chavez was seconds away from losing? You also make it seem like Carl just wandered around the ring and Taylor gassed, Carl wasn't getting beaten up he was pressuring Taylor the entire fight and eventually it broke him.
Taylor is the only person I know of to put Pavlik down and put Froch down and he also beat Bernard Hopkins twice, hardly a poor name on a CV is it?
As for Dirrell, I thought Dirrell squeaked the decision by a round, however he ran all night and probably should have been DQed for holding, if he had decided to fight the entire fight like he did 10-12 then maybe he might have won. It was his own fault, there are countless examples of the home fighter getting the decision in a close fight, not to mention the crowd probably played a big part.
I am a fan of Amir Khan but he makes such hard work of some of his opponents and tries to get into a fight when he doesn't have the chin.
So. You comment that froch lost to ward, and that you think he beat Kessler, and that he beat everybody else.
Subsequently you say you think dirrell beat him.
Do you not think that omission somewhat colours your original argument. My comment about you and froch bring the only people who think he beat Kessler was obviously flippant... It was highlighting that its not the consensus view. Which it isn't.
But I'm the one who lacked objectivity on the subject. Got me bang to rights.
And yes chavez was lucky against Taylor, but deserves great credit for getting the job done... Just as froch does. It is possible to give credit and recognise that it was a damn close shave. Those views are not mutually exclusive.
No where in my argument have I stated that Froch won every single fight he has had easily apart from Kessler and Ward. All I said is that I thought Froch beat Kessler or at least pushed him a lot closer than the 116-112 and 117-111 score cards would have you believe.
I thought Froch won and I believe he will win tomorrow night as well.
Its funny that as boxing fans, we cry out for people to stop ducking other great fights. When we actually have a fighter than is willing to travel to other fighters back yards and consistently face the best, he isn't skilled enough or he gets lucky.
Froch should be lauded as a great fighter, you will get a couple of close shaves and a few L's along the way if you are willing to take the risks. A lot of fighters nowadays are not, Froch is one of the rare ones, we should enjoy him while he is here.
To be fair as a one division fighter you are obviously going to end up fighting a fair few decent boxers if you want to be a world champ. He took part in the Super 6 as it was obviously a good money spinner for a division with not that much star potential at he time, including Froch who was hardly the draw he is now. He had to fight home and away because of that as they all did. He had to fight Bute away as he was the challenger if he wanted a shot at the belt. He fought Kessler away and is now fighting him at home to attempt to avenge the loss.
He is operating at the sort of level where these sorts of fight happen because they have to, he isn't an elite boxer and nor is Kessler. He's a good one, in no way to me is he a great one.
Who is 'elite' at the moment, based on your criteria, its Ward and Mayweather and that's it. Which I would agree with mind you..
Well I guess Id have a broad elite of fighters who were regularly in or around the top 10 pound for pound rankings. I think at his best I'd only ever have had Froch maybe 9 or 10 in those rankings and even then not for very long.
So I looked at ring magazine p4p and they have Broner and Alvarez in the top 10, so that means they are elite? This is despite the fact that they haven't fought anyone near the calibre of Froch's last 9 opponents, baring Demarco for Broner and Trout for Alvarez....
Both Broner and Alvarez are kids. I said fighters who regularly appear over the course of their careers. They are both at the start of their careers and after their last two wins deserve to be low top 10 p4p.
By the way are you really counting Mack as a tough fight ?
Not really counting Mack as a great win. Froch deserves to be above them and has done far more than both of them probably combined. They have great potential, but p4p isn't scored on potential its scored on results!
Couldnt have put it better myself fellas

But could you have put it as succinctly Steffan?
At least we have a genuine froch hater here, now.... rather than those who wish him well, respect his approach to the game, but dare to think that he's only very good, not great.

Don't forget about me, milky. Herman assures me that I "hate" Froch because a) I think Kessler deserved the decision over him first time out, and b) I didn't pick him in the hypothetical Froch-Hagler match up!

Re: Fight week!!! Froch poll and opinions!!!FIGHT THREAD. SPOILERS
Ha, I 'd forgotten about that. Chris from Nottingham, who goes to froch's fights is a hater.
To be fair Chris, having just aired your shockingly balanced views on froch, I suspect its more than just Herman who'll have your card marked as a hater.
I hope froch wins tomorrow, rematches ward and throws the kitchen sink at him. But there is a bit of me now that would like him to lose. Same happened with hatton... Albeit to more laughable extremes. It's not the fighters themselves... its the blinded apologists, who think their man is above debate.
Truss and az would certainly have made me hate mayweather, but the smug little forker had done a good enough job on his own, without their help.
Re: Fight week!!! Froch poll and opinions!!!FIGHT THREAD. SPOILERS
For me Froch is possibly the best definition of a very good/great (depending on your definition and which you prefer) fighter.
In an era where title's are relevant and mythical statuses are passed on every decent fighter out there, the lines between what constitutes as a very good fighter and truly great fighter are more blurred than ever.
Froch has a stellar record, which whilst obviously a result of some fortune (Super 6) he should still be applauded for because he was willing to put himself into that tournament....for instance Bute did not! He as a title holder in the past could have decided to defend against C class fighters who very few knew....instead he decided he wanted to test himself against the crux of the division.
Having beat Pascal, Bute, Abraham, Dirrell & Taylor he has come out on top against arguably 5 of the best in the division in the past 5 years.
It is easy to look back and say Dirrell was untested or Bute was over-hyped but the fact is at the time they were both well rated fighters amongst the boxing fraternity.
He came up short against Ward and Kessler (which he could put right on Saturday) which is nothing to scoff at. Ward is one of the most gifted fighters out there and I think he gives many fighters from the past plenty of problems.
For me Froch falls somewhere in line with Ricky Hatton (that is coming from someone who was a huge Ricky fan) as a fighter who is A-Level but just that tad shy of being truly elite....such as the likes of
Mayweather - Pac-man- Ward
I think the one thing which often goes against fighters such as Froch is that many mark him down because he is not easy on the eye and doesn't have those fast hands, exceptional combinations, great footwork etc that others have.

Win or lose, Froch has squeezed every drop of success from the talents he was given, and for that, if nothing else, even those that don't rate him should surely respect him.

I see Froch as a British great.
Looking at it from a world wide perspective I think he would be viewed as being very good. Personally I would prefer if only the top 100 boxers of all time got to be called great. The term great gets thrown around too easily.

I too think froch and hatton are a similar standard of fighter. Personally, I have them more than just a tad shy of the mayweathers and wards but no disgrace in that. Those guys are a clear cut above everyone.
They are the antithesis of each other from matchmaking perspectives. Froch genuinely does fight anyone, whereas hatton's management team cherry picked carefully and shamelessly. Froch gets more of my respect for how he's gone about his business, though you can't blame Ricky for taking the path he did. And froch 's defeats didn't involve getting nailed to the canvas.

Better than Khan's resume though, Khan has the time to change that.

Not sure if anyone watched the weigh in today but Froch looked very pumped up, probably too much. Could back fire if he goes toe to toe from the off.
Not sure how Spencer Oliver can say Kessler has made a mistake coming in at that weight, he looked in great shape.

I class the likes of Mayweather, Ali, Whittaker, Leonard, Robinson and the likes as the truly elite of boxing.
For instance Pacman, Ward & Mayweather would be truly elite in this era,
It's difficult because I do think ones perspective on a fighter always adds some blur to where they rank them but for me the likes of Froch, Marquez, Hatton, Cotto fall below that (as you said Milky, in this instance by some way)....
Then you have the likes of Malignaggi, Alexander, Bradley, Garcia etc below that (time on some of their sides to get to the level of above)...

They both looked great, I was a bit worried with Froch's body language during the stare down, however after hearing the interview, it relaxed me somewhat.
I cannot wait for this, its going to be absolutely amazing!
