Ideas/suggestions for improving the cricket section
Morning guys
Thought I would create a 'sticky' thread where you fellas can post any ideas, thoughts, suggestions, complaints etc for the cricket section.
As you know, we are working on securing Q&A's with various County and International cricketers, and will continue to do so, but if you have any other ideas to improve the cricket section then feel free to share them and I will see what I can do.
We get a decent bit of traffic through this section these days, and it'd be nice to keep that up even when England aren't playing.
Ideas I've had so far include organising a fantasy cricket league, which will be put into effect for the start of the next County season, and also the possibility of a club feature, whereby we take it in turns (maybe one every couple of months or so) to write up a small profile on a local club of ours, maybe with a match report if you've been involved, just as a bit of publicity to the various clubs around the UK and as a chance for the other members to compare clubs.
Let me know your thoughts.
Thanks

Re: Ideas/suggestions for improving the cricket section
I was thinking of a running a fantasy IPL if anyone was interested, I though it would work better than an English counties one as we can have the auction. Have it run similar to the Furious League where we are all in charge of a team and have the teams face each other and have voting on which team would win (like CF does anyways).
Any thoughts on that?

Re: Ideas/suggestions for improving the cricket section
Not a bad idea, Gregers. However, is that not quite a high maintenance thing for both the person running it and the participators?
When I set up our English County one it may be a bit of time to run it but at least for those taking part it doesn't require any input on their part once they have submitted their original team.

Re: Ideas/suggestions for improving the cricket section
I dont mind running it, or as part of a team.
Well we could make it less maintenance than Furious, plus if we only allow transfers through the auction and then swaps between teams up to the third fixture. After that we vote on the matches before the league places are finalised (have each team play each other once)
The top two then compete in the final.
Thoughts?

Re: Ideas/suggestions for improving the cricket section
When does the next season of the IPL start?
I like the idea of it, but think it'd be better in a normal fantasy style way as opposed to us taking charge of teams, voting etc. In my opinion, we should be given x amount of money/credits to begin with and then select our teams with that, then we gain points by runs scored, wickets taken, catches taken.
I'm happy to look in to setting that up, and would just run it from a spreadsheet.

Re: Ideas/suggestions for improving the cricket section
I've just set up a page for it with a few initial ideas.
We could run your idea when the actual IPL is on? Whereas I think my idea could run all the time. Obviously we need to get 10 people interested first!

Re: Ideas/suggestions for improving the cricket section
Right, now that one is sorted we can discuss the particulars in the 'sticky' thread for it.
Keep any other ideas/suggestions/comments coming guys.

Could we have a chatbox within the cricket section rather than on the main page? As its usually on for us anyways

No, hardly work safe

I don't think this is an option, Gregers, as the chat box can only be contained at the front page.
Re: Ideas/suggestions for improving the cricket section
A pub thread like what they have on the Rugby section.
Re: Ideas/suggestions for improving the cricket section
we can have a separate page for the live cricket streaming.need not be on the cricket page.we can just provide a link on the cricket page to let everyone know about the live cricket streaming.

We can't do that with illegal streams, mate. It is against the forum rules and could have some serious consequences.

Re: Ideas/suggestions for improving the cricket section
Break a reservoir dam wall after you have dug a trench, and divert the onrushing water into the said trench. You will then have a stream.
In all seriousness, can we leave the talk of illegal streams there, please? Don't want to start removing comments.

Re: Ideas/suggestions for improving the cricket section
Can we please get rid ogf the county subsections, its ridiculous spillting it down when theres less than 10 articles in the vast majority of them. Many the few articles that have been posted are match related, wghich cover two counties anyway.
Theres no real need for a county sub section at all, spiltting it down eiven hurther is killing the chances of casual traffic and general county cricket discussion.

+1. I would possibly keep the county subsection, but there is no need for each county to have it's own board.
Re: Ideas/suggestions for improving the cricket section
Would probably agree with a county subsection, which we should probably label Surrey stuff + others

Re: Ideas/suggestions for improving the cricket section
Maybe have the cricket subsection divided into England, other international teams and Counties, based on the fact that the vast majority of threads are about England (or Surrey )

That seems similar to what I was thinking of , general chat thread or comments section where you can chat on any aspect of cricket or any topic slightly related to cricket without the hassle of setting up of threads or expecting a response.

I'll look over these and get back to each of your points later, guys. Just heading out now.
Re: Ideas/suggestions for improving the cricket section
I agree it would be better at the moment not to keep lots of separate sparsely populated county pages - and we might get more active discussions if they were mixed together. As a Surrey supporter I do tho' find it convenient to find all our posts in one place...

Re: Ideas/suggestions for improving the cricket section
Yeah but they will still be in one place.....
I was searching for discussion on the t20 finals so I went to the county boardl, Im then confronted with around 126877 sub fora (mild exageration) none of which suit the topic Im looking for. So I quickly dip into each of the county sections for teh teams playing, no sign.
A while later I notice its on the front page main section....not under county cricket at all.
Dont you also get duolicate threads for game discussion in the two seperate counjty sections ( well no because only surrey fans ever post in them at all)
Seriously why bother with a CC section at all?
How many active topics are there in a week with all the sections including the main board combined? Even during the India test series things werent dropping off the front page.
If the point of having sub forums is to make it easier to find things then make it easier to find things, put them in one place so you dont have to go hunting through endless sub sections.
Kill the sub fora!

Re: Ideas/suggestions for improving the cricket section
My own take on this is:
Simply get rid of the county subsections. Threads for each county can then be created on the main board e.g. 'Surrey News', and anything deemed worthwhile can then be posted in that topic. For those that are busy (so basically just Surrey), they'll be bumped to the top fairly often anyway, so it is unlikely you will need to go searching for it.
You guys in agreement with that?

Re: Ideas/suggestions for improving the cricket section
Sounds good. But keep the fantasy game separate from the main board.
Re: Ideas/suggestions for improving the cricket section
I agree to get rid of the county board, or just have a surrey one?
Re: Ideas/suggestions for improving the cricket section
Yeah the fantasy game will be separate...we want to maintain a serious cricket section, therefore don't want a mix of that and a 'just for fun' fantasy game being mixed.
We won't just have a surrey section Gregers, a Surrey thread will suffice. I will do that now, and let me know what you think afterwards.
Cheers for the feedback guys, and anything else you feel should be looked into doing please say so on this thread and I will get back to you.

Re: Ideas/suggestions for improving the cricket section
Right that has been done, and all of the contents have been merged into the main cricket section, so your posts and topics haven't been lost.
If you want to discuss general county news, please set up a 'Surrey News' thread etc, and post anything Surrey related in there, as opposed to having lots of different Surrey articles.
Thanks

Re: Ideas/suggestions for improving the cricket section
As we draw to the end of the county season I doubt there will be all that many posts about county cricket anyway (Surrey or otherwise).

There used to be an RSS feed that picked up each new thread on the Surrey board as it appeared - that's been the only way I've been navigating to the site. Now this RSS feed has every single new thread on it, and is just as unusable for my purposes as clicking through all the pages with my browser. Is there another way of getting the Surrey threads via RSS?

Further to David's comment above, I feel that the Surrey followers have made a very considerable contribution to 606 v2 and am disappointed that no recognition appears to have been taken of this in the changes made suddenly and without notice.

Re: Ideas/suggestions for improving the cricket section
I think we should have a County sub-section just not a sub-section for each county
Re: Ideas/suggestions for improving the cricket section
agreed a county sub section would probably be better, and in that i believe what 6 counties have had stuff posted about them so Surrey stuff would still be easily findable. Just my thoughts

Judging by the explosion in the RSS feed (which now makes it useless) I'd say >95%. See for yourself at https://www.606v2.com/feed/?f=179

It wasn't without notice, this discussion has been up for a couple of days, and the general consensus was that the county section detracted from the main board, given that only Surrey was really in use.
I am happy to reinstate a county sub-section, however as Liam says it was a bit silly before given the amount of sub-sub-sections there were. We aren't going to go back to having a section for each county, so any Surrey related articles, or any other county for that matter, can be posted under the county cricket sub-section.
Re: Ideas/suggestions for improving the cricket section
Fists - whilst the discussion had been up for a couple of days, the implementation was made without notice. I would have expected a provisional decision to have been made based on the feedback received and then notice given on what was intended to happen.
Whilst contributions to many of the county threads have been minimal and disappointing, the Surrey thread has been particularly vibrant with its posters making a significant contribution to 606 v2. It is particularly disappointing that no account has been taken of this in the rush to change things.

Re: Ideas/suggestions for improving the cricket section
Notice was given, and I had feedback from a number of regular posters agreeing with the decision. Whilst I respect your opinion, and will look into ways of accomodating your wishes, you should have spoke up at the time, and not once the boat had departed, so to speak.
Personally I don't see the problem with having a county sub-section, and then if you want to create a Surrey article you are free to do so e.g. 'Surrey vs Warks CB40', and then Surrey and Warks fans can contribute to that topic if they want to. We are mostly England fans here, but that doesn't mean that England needs it's own section.

If you really want us to catch your boat, it would help if you told us your sailing times rather than casting off when the fancy takes you.

You make this sound like this was an unadvised decision...I took feedback from some of the regulars and acted accordingly.
Now, act sensible, and tell me what you would like? I'm trying to be helpful here and you are throwing your toys out of the pram.

Well there was no notice at all in the RSS feed that I was using to filter all my engagement with 606v2.
Am I right in guessing from the lack of response to my question "Is there another way of getting the Surrey threads via RSS?" that the answer is No?
If the only way to participate in the parts of this site that interest me is to wade through lots of stuff that doesn't interest me, then, sadly, we may part ways.

Re: Ideas/suggestions for improving the cricket section
In all honesty mate, I have no idea what you mean by RSS feed, excuse my ignorance but it's not something I have come across before.
I still don't see what the issue is with having a county sub-section but no individual club sub-sections. If Surrey is indeed the only busy one, then surely you would have the entire county section to yourselves anyway?
