IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ
I have set up a feedback thread as to how we are doing so far - you might have already seen it.
In conversation as to how to create new members post 606 closure, a few things have been mentioned (mostly by me).
This is how I would like things to evolve eventually.
I would like for you as members of golf clubs to approach your captains/ owners etc and let them know about the site.
They would then have the opportunity to promote their club on here in their own subsection. We would grant them a section each where they can post details where they advertise their course, offer discounts, tell you about equipment sales etc.
In return, they promote our forum to the members and offer discounts to any 606v2 Golf Society members who want to play.
They may also offer me huge cash sums to put their club at the top of the list although this is negotiable.
Obviously for this to work, we need to get a handful of clubs on board at first. This would allow us to test its practicality and see if its something that people want to do. Just imagine how chuffed [with you] the golf club would be to get its own "free" advert to over X amount of members.
It also allows for the 606v2 golf society to grow to new levels and get new members.
It may also pay for my retirement, which once again is negotiable.
So let me know if you think that this is a good idea and viable. We can make this site the premiere golfing site in the UK - it will take work from you guys, but it can be done and you shall reap the rewards if you do (after my 90% admin charge) :friend:

I'm seeing a bit of a theme developing here, namely oodles of cash heading in your direction.
You got to admire a man for trying :606laugh:

I think a lot of people see their online golf chat a very different thing from their golf club life.
Have you checked out the top 100 golf site, it already offers part of what you suggest. It would take a great deal of effort to properly represent a club on this site. I also fail to see what the clubs would get out of your proposal. How would you differ from current set ups like the 2 for 1 scheme.
I for one would like to think I am posting on a site not associated with any money making intentions.

In all seriousness, I am not looking for any incentives - the point of it is to get you guys discounts at clubs you might not have previously.
For example, if we had clubs from all around the UK join up to the system, then next time you leave Scotland and go to Wales for example, you can get on a v2 course (ie St Pierre) at a discounted rate as you are part of the v2 golf society.
The club itself gets to promote its courses and get guests they might otherwise not been able to attract. The cost to them is to offer discounts to v2 members. In return, they get to attract new guests and advertise offers on their section of the site.
Its free advertising for them, its discounts for the v2 members.
And for the record, as soon as I can make some money out of you leaches, I am buying my yacht and sailing to the kaymens.

I do like what you are saying but for that to work for the clubs they would need a full write up on here with pictures and the lot. Who would do that?
And secondly how do their contracts work with other discount companies, is there any exclusivity?

Re: IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ
I have not done any research, but I would appreciate if someone could do a 606v2 census of some sorts - find out how many members we have already and how many more we are likely to get come May.
I will then approach a few clubs to see if its something they would consider.
As with anything, its about getting a few on board and then seeing the thing snowball from there.
If any of you are part of a small club who might be interested, please let me know and I will approach them on your behalf.
This will work if there is enough people who are interested.
Can someone please do a head count of the golfing people on here?

I know from past experience that my club would be unlikely to join in such a scheme. We have turned down similar things in the past because we are "over golfed" by members let alone visitors looking for a deal. For that reason we do not participate in the "2 for 1" scheme.
Good luck with your plan.

This - I think - is the bottom line. If smaller clubs want to buy into it, then fine but I can't see most clubs being interested in it.
I will certainly mention the site to people I play with in the hope of getting more members, but I wouldn't bet on any clubs buy into it.
Good to see the old thought processes working though!

Would you limit it just to Clubs Hobo...I have a villa in Cyprus which I need to fill with holiday rentals, I'm trying to push it toward a golf clientel as it's on the Secret Valley Estate so less than 5 mins from their clubhouse and less than 10 mins from Aphrodite Hills and about 15 from the new Faldo Course at Elea. Basically I'm looking at opportunities to plug it where I can. It's on a couple of holiday lettings websites but there aint much interest.
I have taken out full page ads in both my club diaries this year but again...not much happening. I'd be interested in advertising it for a trial period to see if it would generate any interest.

For a head count on golfers can I recommend getting a poll going to make life easier and to save someone the trouble of organising the waifs and strays on here...

I think my club might be interested, so I'll mention it. I've had numerous conversations with the manager over the last couple of years about marketing and they even now have a facebook page! I'll see and get back to you if there's interest.
