Khalid Yafei is through 27-15. Qualified for the Olympics, however GB can only send one representative and Selby is due to fight for his spot soon. Unless one wins the tournament, there will be a box-off for that spot.

Coxy didn't have time to watch TV when he was at Uni, smashing all previous records for achievements in economics.

Who said I was watching TV? It's not hard to follow people on twitter or receive text messages from friends. I'm simply relaying what I receive. Does your job entail being rude and obnoxious, or does that just come naturally?

I've often wondered how Matt Prior went from a wooden handed duffer to a world class wicketkeeper. Forgot about the Coxy effect.

Apologies if I got the wrong end of the stick, but it seemed like you were making a snide remark. A lot of people don't have full internet access, and for those that do it's easier to find updates all in one place. I have a lot of interest in the amateur side and was simply reporting for those who also do.

Andrew Selby progresses to the quarters as well. Both him and Yafei are on opposite sides of the draw. If both keep winning the final will be for the both the Gold Medal as well as the Olympic spot.

David Oliver Joyce is out losing 32-30 to his Indian opponent. Joyce deducted 2 points in the last 5 seconds. The Irish are not happy with the refereeing on the contest.

Belfast's Michael Conlon just upset the number two seed 20-17. He's had a tough draw and has come through. Faces Selby for a Semi-final spot.

Luke Campbell just knocks out the number one seed Bulgarian. Classy performance from Campbell winning 12-8 against the reigning World Champion.

His Semi Final opponent will be an Uzbek or an Irishman.

Ukraine lodged a complaint. AIBA ruled Lomachenko had been wrongly penalized for a low blow, and his opponent should have been penalized for repeatedly falling down. Can't remember any instance where this has happened before.

The biggest shock of the day and quote possibly the whole tournament, Anthony Joshua defeats reigning World and Olympic Champion Roberto Cammarelle 15-13. I didn't even think he would hear the final bell, so hats off to him.

Andrew Selby defeats Irishman Michael Conlan 25-24. Great little scrap that really could have gone either way. Selby faces a cracking little Uzbek fighter in the Semi's.

Khalid Yafei is defeated by Rau'shee Warren. If Selby wins the tournament, Yafei will not fight at the Olympics.

In another suprise, European Champion Fred Evans was KO'd by his Lithuanian opponent. Brilliant right hook, and Evans couldn't get back up.

Overall, Britain have a guaranteed for medals from the tournament: Selby, Campbell, Stalker and Joshua. Ireland has one in John Joe Nevin.

Shame about Evans. I thought he'd go further. He was behind on points 4 - 2 before being KO'd.

So at least 5 representatives in London 2012. I presume each will now be seeded.

Possibility still of Ogogo joining them as a kind of lucky loser, if the guy who beat him reaches the final.

Astonishing effort from the home team, and I rather expect the Irish to send a full complement to London as well. How things have improved over the past seven or eight years on this side of the Irish Sea, and how well the Irish have maintained that great showing at Barcelona 1992 for the past couple of decades.

Yes he does Teassoc, as does Roy Sheehan of Ireland if the Lithuanian wins his next bout.

Captain, I'm still confident of say 3 or more Irish progressing. I rave about Joe Ward, but he still has that inexperience. His Iranian opponent roughed him up on the inside and he forgot his boxing. However, he is still only 17 and will learn from it. There's still plenty of places up for grabs in the light Heavy division.

There's still 6 spots available for the light fly division and I fully except Paddy Barnes to be one of them. Same to for David Joyce at lightweight.

There is only three spots available at light welter, so Ray Moylette will need to find his form soon.

Heavy and Super Heavy are Irelands real problem. Egan has stepped up and isn't carrying the power other heavies have. Con Sheehan has also stepped upto Super Heavy and is struggling as well.

Forgot to put this in my last post Captain, but rather than Ireland maintaining the standard of performance of Barcelona, I feel Ireland went through a quite a lull.

Although we didn't win any medals in Atlanta, we sent four representatives, two of which were one win away from a medal. However, at the Sydney games we only sent one representative, likewise at Athens.

However, since the inception of the high performance unit in Dublin we really have gone from strength to strength. I think it just shows the strength of Irish boxing, when I'm disappointed that only three gained Olympic qualification. Considering the size of the country we are punching well above our weight (pardon the pun). We gained the same amount of Olympic spots as USA, China and Italy.

Olympic qualification table

- Ukraine: 6
- Kazakhstan, Russia: 5
- Azerbaijan, Cuba, England, India, Uzbekistan: 4
- China, Ireland, Italy, USA: 3
- Brazil, Hungary, Korea Republic, Mongolia, Wales: 2
- Armenia, Australia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Germany, Iran, Japan, Lithuania, Moldova, Romania, Serbia, Spain, Tajikistan, Thailand: 1

Really does put into perspective how the nation is performing.

Thanks I was curious. Of course for Olympics purposes you should add the England and Wales totals. That would bring the total down by one, but hopefully Ogogo will get his lucky loser slot to bring the GB total back to 6. Either way GB have done exceptionally well.

Still think it a bit odd that Northern Ireland boxers are included in the Eire team for Olympics purposes. Don't think that applies in any other sport so why boxing?

The Irish Boxing Association was formed before the division of the Country and just stayed the same. Its the same as the Rugby Union team which is includes all thirty two counties. Similarly, when the GAA players play the Australian Rules although that's different.

It would, but the four Countries represented themselves during the tournament. I think overall GB took sixteen fighters over nine weights classes.

GB have done brilliantly. Campbell and Stalker should be looking to win the whole thing, whilst Selby and Joshua have more of an outside chance.

Luke Campbell defeats John Joe Nevin on countback after the scores were tied 12-12.

All square going into the last, I thought Nevin won the last round, But it all depends on the scoring of the body shots.

Well done Campbell though. Hope he goes on and wins it.

Stalker is out, loses 31-18 to a Ukrainian.

Really was clear cut in the end.

Really, the competition is ferocious at these championships. That's a most conclusive scoreline; the Ukrainian must be something quite special.

What was your overall take of the first three rounds of Campbell-Nevin, 6oldenbhoy? Overall, was the result fair or did Nevin have reason to be slightly put out?

As an Irishman, I may not be most fair minded individual to comment, but I really thought Nevin had done enough.

Round one, Campbell was 4-3 up, it was close, but you could not complain. Landed the cleaner work overall but Nevin got inside the guard well.

Second Round Nevin won it 6-5, again nip and tuck but Nevin getting through the guard of Campbell. Deserved the round.

Third, I thought Nevin won. Tied 3 apiece at the end, but Nevin was whipping shots to the body, which must not have scored. I thought it was the clearest of the three rounds to score.

Overall by no means a robbery, but I thought Nevin did enough. If you can Captain, here's a link to an audio only interview with Nevin straight after. He's obviously pretty down.

Yes he is, the Ukrainian defeated the Cuban Iglesias in the first round and he is something special. Speaking of Ukrainians, their Middleweight just knocked out his Romanian opponent in the second. They look a fantastic team.

Bad news for Anthony Ogogo. The Brazilian who defeated him has just lost his Semi, meaning Ogogo will have to wait to the final qualifying event.

Haven't heard, but have done a rough calculation and I think it could only be 1 or 2, if that. Five Europeans made the quarter Finals. The two Finalists defeated European opposition in the last 16. So that makes 7 European qualifiers in that division. As Europe only has a quota of 78 male boxers overall, it doesn't look good for Ogogo.

Andrew Selby progresses to the Final. Defeated his Uzbek opponent 21-15.

Brilliant performance, he was 2 points down after the first, but turned it around to be 4 up after the second. Meets the Russian World number one in the final.

From your very helpful table looks like 38 Europeans have qualified plus several lucky losers. So could be quite a lot more qualifiers to come, before Europe reaches that quota?

Yes, but the qualification places are spread over the different weights. For instance, only two Europeans qualified in the light flyweight division, meaning there will be 6 qualification places up for grabs at the qualifier in April. As there were 7 in middleweight, there will be 1 or at the very most 2 places up for grabs. Spoke to Ron Lewis of The Times and he said the same. Ogogo will most likely need to win the tournament to gain a spot, whereas Charlie Edwards and Paddy Barnes at light fly could theoretically only make the quarter finals and qualify.

Anthony Joshua makes the final, his German opponent is stopped due to a bleeding nose.

Three GB boxers make the final, really brilliant stuff for GB. He'll meet either an Azeri or a Kazakh in the final.
