Swann to captain England
In the two T20s v the West Indies XI.
It will be interesting to see what fields he sets for himself. I guess Somerset will be disappointed that Kieswetter and Buttler are in the squad and thus unavailable for the T20 Champions League.

Really looking forward to seeing how Swanny gets on as captain. From your team, I'd be surprised if they picked three spinners, so probably Dernbach ahead of Borthwick I'd guess...

Yeah, I would imagine Dernbach will play. They seem to really rate him in limited overs games. I wouldn't mind seeing Anderson dropped for Finn, as I would like to see what Finn has got, he was bowling 93mph the other day!

Re: England vs West Indies t20 series
Not sure Finn is a T20 bowler, with his natural length batsmen can just swing away at him and more often than not get away with it (as we saw in the ODI the other day, lots of edges and all but usually over the slips, etc.). Was great to see him bowling so quickly though, Tremlett could soon find himself out of a squad place altogether, fantastic depth to our fast bowling resources.

Re: England vs West Indies t20 series
disappointed to see Woakes over looked for this series
he really is a genuine all rounder talent for the future.
Just check his averages! this season 47 with bat 20 with ball!! spearhead of attack of possible Div1. champions!

Re: England vs West Indies t20 series
Hi rwalton, and welcome. How'd you hear about us?
As a Warwickshire fan, I have to agree with you about Woakes. He has had a fantastic season, although I think he is more suited to the longer format of the game in general, his batting is certainly dangerous enough for the shorter format, and his bowling wouldn't be a let down.
The only issue I have at the moment is that England don't tend to pick players for tests unless they've been in and around the shorter squads, which is my one criticism of them if we're being picky.
Hope to see Woakes involved in some capacity soon, he really does seem to have come of age.

Wonder if Borhwick/Briggs will get a game. Bairstow after a terrific season will hopefully get a game.

That's in the CC totally different from T20. Did you see him against Sri Lanka his line and length was wacked all over. I do think he has a future as a all-rounder Cricketer in Englands Test side though, not in T20.

1) Hales
2) Kieswetter (WK)
3) Bairstow
4) Bopara
5) Stokes
6) Buttler
7) Patel
8) Bresnan
9) Swann
10) Dernbach/Borthick
11) Anderson
I will be interested to see how Dernbach gets in bowling at the death after a poor time in the one-days series against India.

At least we aren't sure whether Finn is a T20 bowler, we know Anderson isn't!

Re: England vs West Indies t20 series
I am shocked that people want Borthwick ahead of Briggs who has been the best T20 bowler in England across the past 2 seasons.Borthwick is more of a f/c bowler IMO and stats prove that.

Re: England vs West Indies t20 series
borthwick is quality in both formats, he often bowls in powerplays for durham in t20 and keeps things tight, he also gets wickets!
but at the moment, briggs is prob better choice.

Re: England vs West Indies t20 series
No real experience as a skipper so it's a hard call. Very competitive cricketer so I seem him doing well.
Re: England vs West Indies t20 series
Swanny has a great cricket brain, so I'd expect him to do well. There'll be the odd mistake as he's never captained (basically) before, but it should be good fun. Will be interesting to see how he uses himself, whether he sticks to the usual "come straight on after the PP, bowl through" tactic...

Can't argue with that selection CF. That's what I think the side will be too.
As a Somerset supporter, I'm hoping Jos get's a chance further up the order. His battle with Dernbach on Saturday was brilliant and I just want to see more and more of him

Re: England vs West Indies t20 series
Patel will play because of the batting insurance he gives with such limited experience in the squad.
If it was purely down to picking a spinner on his bowling, I would go with Briggs, but then your definately not getting any batting

Re: England vs West Indies t20 series
Where is Kevin Pieters, Troscothic, Bali Singh, Nick Fury? England seem to be missing some top players. It'll be hard to spin on that pitch. We need to take more batters, Ravi Bopora should be dropped.
Re: England vs West Indies t20 series
Bali Singh! Wolverhampton's finest Spinner

Re: England vs West Indies t20 series
I would of liked to see Bairstow moved up to 3 and take control of the early overs. Easily can bat 6 but we won't need to many especially with Stokes and Buttler in the squad. Saying that Stokes could easily bat 3 also.
Re: England vs West Indies t20 series
The squad reveals just how seriously England are treating these games. But it is a good chance to continue the development of young players.
My concern is that if T20 is going to be the gateway to international cricket how many players better suited to test cricket will be getting the best of their early chances, and how mant cricketers will want to concentrate on the skills forthat format?

Re: England vs West Indies t20 series
Pleasantly surprised England didn't pick Stirling or Rankin.
Swann will be a very good intuitive captain, ala Warne (if not quite of that class) IMO.
I'd quite like to see either Briggs or Borthwick given a go TBH, but that'll mean Bresnan at 7. Should be ok but may make England a bit nervous. Those who have seen more or Briggs than I have (a couple of CB40s on sky): does he usually fire it in, or does he vary his pace?
I wasn't impressed at all with Patel: his fielding was poor (and lazy at times), his bowling ordinary (my point is he just fires the ball in, a la Yardy: if all you're looking for in the middle overs is 0-45 then fine, but I think England can do better; also if a player gets used to him he gets thrashed). his batting is OK but say if we look at Owais Shah (ditched mainly for his fielding) then it's not in the same league IMO.
Stokes I have to say has been disappointing, I liked the look of him but so far he's been somewhat out of his depth. However he deserves a decent run to prove me wrong.
Woakes, Finn and Anderson IMO are all wrong for T20s (they all bowl predominantly length, Finn prob is the better of the 3 as he has a good yorker and hits back of a length). Having said that I'm not sure (given Broad is injured) who'd do much better. Onions?
What I would pick:
Kieswetter
Hales
Bairstow
Bopara
Stokes
Buttler
Bresnan
swann
Dernbach
Finn
Briggs
I think England will pick Anderson for Finn and Patel for Briggs though, prob with Bopara at 3.
