Trescothick is basically a poor man's Sehwag.Gregers wrote:Sehwag's career lasted far longer than Trescos plus Sehwag has only ever been his best in India
I think Tresco should be in the top 10 but only just

I don't know how you can say that
If Tresco had played test cricket for another 5 years he would have been in the top 5 list IMO
Sehwag cannot play the moving ball

Top 5? In the same league as Gavaskar, Hobbs, Richards etc, do me a favour.

Tresco can play the moving ball as he's proved time and time again.
Re: Top 10 Test Openers Of All Time
Sure he has. A below par average of 43 says otherwise.Gregers wrote:Tresco can play the moving ball as he's proved time and time again.
Instead of Sehwag, he's the poor mans Hayden. Hayden replacing Sehwag just because he's a lefty, not talent wise.

I am not saying Trezza would be in the top 5 or even the top 25.But anyone who says Sehwag is a great player well I am not convinced. He is a great player in the subcontinent. In fact probably the greatest. But when the ball moves around he is a very poor player. He has the talent but doesnt have the grit to weather the storm in tough conditions.
Overall,he is a good player.Better than Trezza but he is certainly not a great player.

Why is playing in Asia mean he can't be great? I don't see too many English players averaging 90 in Pakistan or 70 odd in Sri Lanka. Sehwag is a masterful player of spin and in Asia you face great bowlers of reverse swing.shankythebiggestengfan wrote:I am not saying Trezza would be in the top 5 or even the top 25.But anyone who says Sehwag is a great player well I am not convinced. He is a great player in the subcontinent. In fact probably the greatest. But when the ball moves around he is a very poor player. He has the talent but doesnt have the grit to weather the storm in tough conditions.

To be grat you have to perform everywhere. You have to be adaptable and S'wag clearly isnt adaptable.
Very Good player but not great
Against spin he must be one of the best ever.

Re: Top 10 Test Openers Of All Time
sehwag is one of the game's greats he averages nearly 55 in test cricket that is a very good record, so what if he has scored most of his runs on the sub-contient, he still has to score the runs and india play most of their games there, thats not his fault

We've had this debate on Sehwag before Shanky. But Since you brought Cook into it, here is my take on it.shankythebiggestengfan wrote:JD
You are an absolutely top bloke mate.I share the same views regarding Sehwag.Cook is a more all conditions player than Sehwag.
Alastair Cook is a fine player, but he has got far too many problems when the ball swings, and in English summers during which thee ball does something, he does struggle.
