Cool Runnings was about a bobsleigh team, why would it convince Jamaicans to take up sprinting?
Re: Did the film Cool Runnings inspire Jamacans to take up sprinting?
Because they were intially sprinters

Cool runnings is a great film, here's a good article about Jamaican Sprinting and the annual championships there.

Jamaica has always been quite good at sprinting. In 1948 London Olympics they they won their first olympic gold medal in the men's 400m.
Soldier_Of_Fortune, check this out:

Donald Quarrie won the men's 200m in 1976 Montreal games.... The bobsleigh movie was as a result of them actually taking part in a winter games a few years ago where the participated in the bobsleigh event....

Yes, it did inspire them to start sprinting. It was John Candy's physique and sprinting skills that did it.
Oh boy... did you actually watch the movie??? It is about sprinters taking up bobsleigh...
Perhaps this could work the other way round... bobsleigh people taking up sprinting.... What do you think???

Didn't Allan Wells dabble a bit in bobsleigh after his retirement? Not sure how it went.
BTW - They should remake Cool Runnings with Bolt in the Doug E. Doug role.
MLF could stand in for John Candy.

MLF lacks the charisma to play John Candy roles.

He can just about run as fast as John Candy though.

John Candy was the man...
In fact, if you say, 'Candy was the man', 3 times...( not sure anyone will get the obscure reference, but thought I'd throw it out there anyway )
