Scarlets appoint Garin Jenkins as scrumaging coach.

SWANSEA great Garin Jenkins has been brought on board as the Scarlets' new scrummaging coach.
Wales's most capped hooker has been added to the coaching team at Parc y Scarlets to help mentor the region's emerging front-row forwards.
"We have brought Garin in to do some mentoring and work on our scrum for a short period of time," said Scarlets head coach Nigel Davies.
"He has got a lot of experience, he is one of the great scrummagers of all time and we have got a lot of young front-rowers in the squad.
"He has come in as of this week and it will be for a couple of days a week at the moment. It is something we have planned for some time, so you will see him involved at the weekend.
"Garin has a lot of good ideas, a lot of energy and the boys have taken to him quickly. He has a lot of qualities outside of his technical ability.
"At the top level in Europe our scrum has been caught out in the past. We need to do everything we can to get that area right."
Jenkins has had previous coaching experience with the Ospreys academy and has also been director of rugby this season at division five south west club Ystradgynlais.
With Wales forwards coach Robin McBryde not involved with the Scarlets because of international commitments, Jenkins will link up with former lock Vernon Cooper, who has been recently appointed the region's set-piece coach.
Meanwhile, Josh Turnbull will have to wait to see whether the results of a scan on a shoulder injury put paid to his chances of a World Cup call-up.
The Scarlets back-rower would appear the likely candidate to answer an SOS to New Zealand if Dan Lydiate were ruled out of the remainder of the tournament with the ankle injury he picked up against Samoa on Sunday.
However, Turnbull suffered a knock in the Scarlets’ RaboDirect Pro12 defeat to Munster last weekend and has been seeking further medical opinion on the problem.
“Josh picked up a knock on his neck and shoulder. He has had the scan on his neck, which is fine, and was having a scan on his shoulder today, which should tell us a bit more,” added Davies.
“It doesn’t seem a serious injury, but we have to check it out at this stage. He still could be available for Saturday’s game against Leinster.”
Davies will have centre Nick Reynolds and wing Liam Williams available for a match which will mark the Scarlets’ 5,000th in their history.
A number of the club’s greats, including Phil Bennett, Ieuan Evans and Terry Davies, yesterday signed a commemorative wall which will be unveiled at the supporters’ village on Saturday for fans to write their favourite Scarlets memories.

Jesus Christ you can bet he will put his boot up some of their arses the way they have been playing in the forwards!
We'll be naming them the viet-Scarlets before long, with the nasty attitude he will instill in them.

A good decision by the Scarlets to get Garin on board. Makes sense to have short term cover whily McBryde isn't available to us. No team wants to go 2+months without a proper forwards coach especially not in an area that includes the scrum. He seems like a character that will fit in well.
Ah man I didn't know we were having a commemerative wall. I can't go on Sat so won't get to write on it. Even more gutted now

Nope never Stag, he played for Swansea who had a huge rivalry with Llanelli.

Yeah he was a Swansea boy, but I can assure you no one will go up to Garin and say he isn't wanted there!
I still remember what happend to the Scottish pack when Derak Turnbull and 2 other Scottish players tried to attack Garin...
I've seen smaller piles of bodies in Auschwitz history videos...

I think thats brilliant. I've been saying this to Dreamer for a while - there's no harm in a bit of diversity.
Jenkins will be the only Scarlets coach who hasn't played for Llanelli. Maybe brings a new idea or two.

ah that he is, I'd forgotten about that.
Not sure about ideas but he'll certainly bring a different attitude with him, which is something some of our forwards really need. A bit of grunt and fire in their bellies etc.

Sounds good to me, especially with a lot of young hookers and props in our squad - lets hope he puts a rocket up the whole pack and they start putting in better performances
