Fresh meat - New C4 Comedy
Just caught this new comedy, starring Joe Thomas (The Inbetweeners), Jack Whitehall and Kimberley Nixon. Its set in Manchester about a group of undergraduates, who applied late for halls and have ended up living together in a house.
It's alright, didn't have a lot of laugh out loud moments but Jack Whitehall's character, JP, is quite funny in it. The first episode if basically about the awkward first meeting of students on their first day.
Did anyone else catch it? Did it remind you of your uni days? Or, like me, scare the crap out of you thinking that you could end up with people like that next year?

Jack Whitehall-cant imagine he's a good actor, he's certainly not a good stand up comedian.

Re: Fresh meat - New C4 Comedy
I seen most of it last night, just me or did Joe play exactly the same character as he does in the Inbetweeners.
Jack Whitehall was surprisingly really funny. Could become a very likeable program.

Re: Fresh meat - New C4 Comedy
To be fair Liam, his actings always seemed quite limited, and it looks like the same character. Although I'm hoping it goes somewhere differen than his Inbetweeners role.
I must be in the minority that find Jack Whitehall as a comedian funny. His character is practically a extravagant version of himself, although he's said he's based him on someone he went to uni with. Had a lot of the funny lines and his awkwardness with Josie in the bedroom scene was very funny.

I'm actually pretty surprised Channel 4 chose Joe, I think Blake or James from the Inbetweeners are far better actors and would play the role better.
I don't mind Jack Whitehall either. Often people are harsh on him. What was the University there going to? Forgot the name.

I assumed it was Manchester Met, but I don't think it was mentioned?

I am starting Uni next week, and I absolutely loved it! And I loved Jack Whitehall in it. I am a fan of his in stand up, especially his Pattinson skit, and really enjoyed him in this aswell.

The University in the show is called Manchester Medlock University, don't think it's name was ever mentioned but I saw it before Orgeon and Vod's English tutorial.Liam_Main wrote:What was the University there going to? Forgot the name.
Thought the show was ok, hopefully it will get better as I doubt it can get worse, a comedy without many funny moments is pointless.

Can I suggest you check your reviews/articles for mistakes before you put them online, and if you already do then I suggest checking them better.Churchill wrote:Trying to get into blogging, so here's my review of Fresh Meat:

Thought I'd spellchecked it, but just did it and now and obviously didn't before- just a few spelling mistakes. Cheers for pointing them out
Am I the only one who found the Vod/Oregon relationship really boring?

It was very dull. Not a big fan of the character of Oregon either.
Re: Fresh meat - New C4 Comedy
If I'm honest, the only characters I think might be interesting are what happens with Josie and JP. But I'm bracing myself for Howard's weirdness to be shoved down my throat to fill in for when they haven't had a joke for a while.

Anyone watch it tonight? Quite enjoyed tonight's episode. Especially JP and his mates from private school! Highlight was hearing Don't Sit Down Cause I moved Your Chair playing in the bar though!

I watched last night and thought it was good. Only thing is it might get a bit repetitive after a while. I liked the posh friends of JP best.

i also think jack whitehall is quite funny, and i think this programme could turn out to be very funny.

Re: Fresh meat - New C4 Comedy
I didn't think it was that great, but something about it has made me watch it again this week, and I'll most probably watch it again next week.
I like Jack Whitehall as a comedian, and although his acting range might be limited I think he suits the role he has been given well. Interested to see how it develops, but I'm not a huge fan of the show.

Gary McHugh is the best guy in it, his other show, Gary: Tank Commander is quality.

Re: Fresh meat - New C4 Comedy
I go to MMU and if Fresh Meat wasn't set there and I didnt have places that I go to during the day on to view during the show - the programme would have been turned off after 5 minutes. On location alone I decided to keep watching the second episode.
Like all of these programmes about teenagers, it delves into some of the real aspects of freshers life for the first quarter of the show but then transcends into a surreal set peice comedy.
I also found Jack Whitehall's character to be unbelievable but that's only because at MMU no-one speaks with such received pronunciation. On character alone he was funny. For a moment during the show I did think that Simon off the inbetweeners was still playing Simon off the inbetweeners.

Season 1 of Fresh Meat is finished, did any of you stick with it to the end? What did you make of the series as a whole?

I stuck with it, after deciding not to watch it at the beginning I was recommended it so decided to give it a go. It got better every week and I think went from strength to strength and hopefully the second series can continue in that vein.

I agree about it getting better every week, ended up liking Oregon's character more than I thought I would after the first episode but JP and Howard were still the best characters in it for me. Second series could be good I wonder if Paul Lamb will finally get seen?

Been waiting for the second season for ages now! Looking forward to it though, might rewatch them on 4oD again (have done once in about April) just so I can remember what happened before it starts in October.

Do you know when it will be starting Crimey? I'm assuming this is going to be their second semester?

That's what I thought, but the fact that it's been out for a year makes me think they'll start with their second year. Even though it ended on a cliff hanger last time.
I think it was they were doing Peep Show that there has een such a huge break.

Re: Fresh meat - New C4 Comedy
Cheers Marsh.
Well when they left off it seemed to me to be after the first semesters exams, and the cliff hanger thing wouldn't really work if we were to miss roughly 9 months (it doesn't make much sense anyway as I'm pretty sure they should have just returned back from christmas break).

I think its even better this season.
Vod is stealing the show for me. Though all the characters feel very alive now - and it really does remind me of Uni days so much. It's pitched perfectly

It's very good, not quite hit the heights of Peep Show but it's a good show with the slight hint of surreal about it.
I still think Howard is the best character, although I hope they haven't dropped the Brian character who I thought was hilarious, particularly their dynamic.
I'm also liking Professor Shales more and more.

Re: Fresh meat - New C4 Comedy
Another strong episode again.
I hope we're going to see Dan the Geology man (Robert Webb) again this season, he was another top character from last series. I am still gutted at the notable lack of Brian, who was my favourite character from the first series.
I think it's continuing it's growing in strength from last series with every episode an improvement on the last.

Re: Fresh meat - New C4 Comedy
I thought last night's episode was right back on form. Has to be a contender for best episode of the whole series IMO. It's finally about damm time Howard had some kind of storyline going, He & JP are the only characters that actually make me laugh...

Great episode. Love the selfishness of the characters at times, nobody ever cares about the others' problems.
