Newport RFC Vs Pontypool RFC
After skipping out on Cardiff vs ulster Last night, I decided to go see Newport V Pontypool today, did anyone else go?
I thought it was a fantastic game, with a pretty a 3/4 full Hazel stand, and with 2 sets of supporters trying to drowned each other out. I'd completely forgotten what a old Welsh club atmosphere was like. We even had the fun of seeing a few Newport season ticket holders, having an argument in the stand with the Pontypool coach, when he was whinging that one of his players got carded in the first half.
The rugby was superb also, superior to anything I have seen in the Rabo Direct from Welsh regions, with one Newport try starting under the Newport posts, which must of passed through 5-7 sets of hands before it was finally scored, then straight after another length of the field try with a center beating several men, before drawing the full back, kicking over his head and beating the winger to score.
We even had a mass brawl at the end with everyone pilling in... wouldn't be a Gwent derby without one to be honest would it!
It was interesting to note that there was also a Scottish referee in charge and he did a great job, though he did miss one or two things, but very good considering the type of fixture he was reffing.
Anyone else from the forum go to see the game?
Oh I think it finished 33-20 to Newport, though I forgot to look at the end of the game, as I was more excited by the massive fight going on, and all the players being carded!
