Would you like to join a 606v2 Golf Society?
606v2 Golf Society
I was thinking last night of maybe trying to organise a 606v2 golf society (or more than likely get you guys to organise it and I will take credit)
This is what I was thinking:
People join up and the purpose of it is to organise golf days out at certain venues around the country. If we get enough members signed up, I ma sure we would be able to negotiate good rates at some fantastic courses. It would also allow for some of you to meet up over the year.
The other benefit of this is that it can also be used to attract new members to the board - if you approach your clubhouse with a view to advertising the board, others might be willing to join if they know that there might be a social get together at a discounted price somewhere.
I have never done anything like this myself but it could be something that brings together the board even more - we might be able to set up a mailing group through the forum via PM/Email.
Please put your thoughts below and vote as to whether you think that this is something worth pursuing. No offence if you think it is a terrible idea!

I did look at doing something like this last year, it is easier said than done though a good idea, you would need a person from each region to act as a form of chairman for the society e'g south, east, west, north to make it a viable idea, im happy to look after the south east region if needs be but it will reuire plenty of communication

Re: 606v2 Golf Society
Back on the old 606 there was already plans under way to organise a 606 golf event. Maybe at some point we could use this site to continue to organise the event as interest had gone a little flat. There was a googlegroup to discuss things, but that has in honest died off.
This thread also makes me think that we need sub categories for the golf board as things may start to get a little jumbled. One of which could be where people can arrange this event.

Re: 606v2 Golf Society
Good idea but like the guys have said, it can get a bit lopsided. Sub sections is a good idea, but you can see from our own 606 contact sheet that we are scattered all over the Uk so area knockouts etc could be a bit funny. So I'll have a bye in the first round as nobody's around Then there's the difficulty of arranging matches/games due to availability, but not insurmountable. At the moment plenty of guys try and have a meet for a particular event or when in certain areas. It's doable and you never know there may be many more joining this site, than we had at the other place

G'day
I'm up for it.
Already play opens and a few social games with guys from 606 so it's no hassle... but lets avoid weekdays shall we. Those holidays can be very precious!

Re: 606v2 Golf Society
I was thinking that it would work along the following lines.
1 event in the summer for the whole group -build a weekend around it etc.
You guys no better than me but I reckon if you for example contacted somewhere like Troon and said you wanted to bring 50 people along, they would organise a discount.
( I chose Troon due its proximity to Prestwick airport)

There is already a 'mini meeting' organised at Saunton over the Easter weekend. There are currently about 5 people going. There are quite a few other open events across the country that would form a good basis for get togethers as they often provide the best value golf.

Damnation! Gonna have to :bitchslap: Mrs mav! her birthday falls on the weekend of bournemouth, I just double checked the dates! and have promised her week away on her birthday as she spent last years with one in the oven! I wonder if she'd settle for a weekend in bournemouth as a prelude to a week away on the monday immediately after

How about a category for the Majors as well? Might help to keep the WUMs in one place when they start to appear.

Re: 606v2 Golf Society
NBS there are a couple of valid sub sections there but it could be too many after all it should just be eaiser for use not more complex navigating round diffrent sub headins all the time
I think the meet's is a good call
for sale too
then leave everythign else as general chat

By meets do we mean golfing or Mac trawling for dogging locations?

Re: 606v2 Golf Society
Can we add in Tours so people can post about the European Tour and the PGA Tour? And if Ned is going to migrate the Fantasy League over, it might help to have a sub-section for that, too.

Now you mention it there is a well known dogging spot just a short drive down the road from gullane. To be honest it was not my cup of tea.

Not looking good for me :(
Already booked up for Okehampton the 2nd half of the Bournemouth week
The East Lothian get together looks like the weekend of our Club Champs
The potential Royal wedding weekend at Gullane is a nightmare choice as it's competing with a) 36 holer at Silloth or b) Royal Dornoch weekend - team Saturday individual Sunday or c) potentially (our diaries ain't out yet but I suspect we big drawn event at home club) - The David Howell Classic.
Jeez, a fixture pile-up already and we're not out o January yet!!

Mac I was driving through Epping Forest a few months back and there were lights in one of the little car parks dotted around the place. Guy in front pulled in there... I looked over as I went past. Woman taking her clothes on in the headlights!
I distributed the location to pervy mates for a reasonable cost. :lol!:
