Bakkies out...
Unfortunately Bakkies is now out after an injury yesterday..
http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/5740866/World-Cup-over-for-Bakkies-Botha-after-injury
Geez I just picked a big name would go out yesterday before Saturdays matches.
Not good for SA but can't say I'm sad for the guy. Caused other individuals enough grief in his time.

Re: Bakkies out...
John Mitchell was of the opinion that even if Bakkies was fit he would not replace him with Danie Rossouw , this was on Sunday evening, he thinks bakkies is not as mobile as Danie and Danie being in great form should play against OZ
Seeing that I have appointed John Mitchel as my newest rugby advisor, I agree

Re: Bakkies out...
Massive loss.
This will help Aus no end. Russouw is a solid player but he is no Bakkies IMO... he may be playing well but players like Bakkies gives the boks an edge which makes them so difficult to play against.
One person whose job will be far harder on Sat will be Brussow's.... often he gets credit for opportunist turnovers but its often because players like Bakkies & Bismaarck clearing the rucks for him to pick the oppositions pocket.
Russouw is a better lineout operator though so his inclusion improves that set piece at least.
I hope this isn't the end of his bok career... Bakkies was a true dog of war and a real team man. A thug perhaps but all teams would benefit from a player of bakkies calibre.

Still, players are just falling. Just guessing how many hidden injuries are out there that either players or the team are keeping under cover. I expect we'll see more...don't want to jinx him but I'm waiting for the McCaw headline to pop up any day now...

Yeah Taylor, not to usurp the Bakkies post, but I wonder if McCaw can get through 3 games on the trot. Or if he can, whether he'll be operating at 100% by the third...

Typical Kiwi arrogance.
I guess with BB taking no further part, England's chances of avoiding the "Tournament Thugs" mantle are slim to none now.

I was responding to the "typical kiwi arrogance" part.
England are just wannabe thugs this time around. They pick on dwarves and female hotel workers.

Re: Bakkies out...
Yup, if Tindall could pass a rugby ball like he can a midget then England's midfield problems could be solved.
The arrogant jibe is unfounded. NZ is aiming to win the Cup. To do so we'll have to play three games in three weeks. McCaw is our best player and skip so most important. GG sees it as important he stays on the pitch the whole time if we have designs on winning the thing. At no time did he say NZ were going to win any of those three games. Keep playing with Biltong holy bloke but stop writing crap about the 'arrogance'.

Just seen the team, again 2 backrow on the SA bench. Who goes into the second row if Russouw or Matfield have to come off, Alberts or Spies (or maybe even Louw)?

Maybe Alberts. I actually think Rossouw is in the form of his life right now and a struggling Botha could have been found out fitness wise.

Re: Bakkies out...
Bakkies is a big a loss for SA, as Carter is for NZ.
It is a shame for both of them, both will be sadly missed by all the fans of rugby, and not just the fans of their respective teams.

Spies is a better line out option than Alberts but at scrum time Alberts will most likely pack at 4

Biltong, T'man, TGG.
Disney, it's a free country and I'll write what I like thanks. If you chilly out for 5 minutes and consult with TGG, you'll find "typical English arrogance" is one of his favourite hooks with which he catches many a young English fool around these parts.
I guess it works the other way round too, I didn't even have to bait the water.
On a serious note though, although BB will be a big loss for SA both experience wise and as a talismanic "leader of the pack", in reality they haven't seemed to have missed him greatly so far in the WC.
Russouw is playing extremely well, Matfield was imperious against Samoa and the real face-off with the Ockers will be between Brussow and Pocock, and I would imagine Burger will probably throw himself into the mix to ensure SA compete with DP at the breakdown.
Refs appear to be favouring the attacking team at the breakdown with just about 70% of penalties there favouring the attacking team.
I still think SA will get enough front foot ball to beat Australia, and although it is personally sad for BB, I still haven't changed my mind on the QF.
SA have the better bench and as long as PDV can introduce his subs on his own terms (i.e. not injury related) I can see SA pulling away from Aus in the last quarter to win by 8 points.

We're all a little tense...love it!
Love watching all the shows that seem to have dug up all the old All Blacks, Boks, NHers, Ozzies for their take on things...just goes to show the experts don't know a lot more than us 606ers...pretty simple game really...
Haden last night commented about how the sending off of Paul Williams will have devestated the Williams family (dad Beegee being one of our greats and NZRFU President) to which Haden replied...
"He's my godson so thats probably where the mongrel comes from!"

It's squeaky bum time T'man, I reckon 50% of the posters on here have a ripcord tucked away somewhere, all you gotta do is pull it and BAM!!!
Off they go.
There's been some typically ascerbic contributions from Campo on TalkSport radio over here, he's still as belligerent as ever, but also very, very funny.
I still haven't changed my mind about England going out on Saturday, the only problem is I couldn't bring myself to back France on SportGuru.

Re: Bakkies out...
Russouw looked immense. But it's so hard to tell against weaker opposition. For example Kaino was putting in some ridiculous carries against Canada. And for a minute it's easy to get carried away before you realise, it's Canada.
Zinzan has been quiet through the WC, unless someone has dug him up somewhere and I missed it. I recall his horrendous punditry from the Sky coverage over the last couple of years.
He was a legend, but when it comes to commentary, he makes HERSH look like he has something to say.

HERSH has always got something to say TGG, but so does my auntie's parrot.
I think Wales and Samoa tested the Saffers to one degree or another, but when they needed to they just got tight, moved the ball where they wanted it and scored.
Not quite the same way as NZ did to the French when they had the temerity to score a try, but with exactly the same intent.

No issues in de-powering the scrum then if does happen, especially against the Aussies

Re: Bakkies out...
Shame another big name out,Bakkes was reported earlier achilles problem
going home.Next day he was playing managed one half went off, next we hear he is 100%.Is it now he`s picked up an injury training, misses this match? But if requred he could make a Semi if boks get thru?
Or thats it he`s out for rest of RWC?
RWCs are all about squads sad for him Botha /Matfield always seemed to
work best together.
But your back up is allegedly better than Botha, very experienced team picked.BUT maybe injurie problems with the wings still.
The match is to close to call good luck to both teams and a semi with Argentina/All Blacks.
