HOUSE M.D. Empty HOUSE M.D.

Post by Celtic Warrior Thu 06 Oct 2011, 10:24 am

Not sure if there are any other fans on here (Except for Dr Gregory House M.D. - obviously) but I LOVE this show.

Season 8 starts tonight on Universal (and HD) for those who have Sky.

Can't wait. I love this show.

It's incredibly formulaic.

Here's the solution. I was wrong, here's the real solution. I was wrong about that, here's the really real solution. I'm stumped. A random character has just said something innocuous that turns out to be a major clue. Here's the solution. Oh look, miraculous recovery/we're too late.

What has saved it is the characterisation, Lawries performances and the writers have done a lot more work to break out of the formula that they've created for themselves.

A single episode is usually a treat. But if you watch a few back to back it loses it's appeal.

See I have to disagree. I bought the Season 7 Blu-Ray boxset last week and watched them all in 3 days. (Mainly to remind myself of the storylines in time for Season 8 starting).

Well the fact Lisa Edelstein (Cuddy) is no longer part of the show should make things interesting this season on where House goes.

I agree on the formulaic angle though its something that can be attached to the majority of shows, in the end its always interesting characters and good dialogue that keeps these shows going longer than most.

I didn't know Cuddy had left the show but then i dont really read up on it before watching . Do you know why ?

Also do you think the young doctor from the 1st episode will be offered a job by House ?

There's two new doctors coming into the series I know that and its quite possible/likely that the doctor featured in the first episode could be one of them.

As for Cuddy's departure well it was a contract thing, the actors who play Foreman and Wilson including Cuddy all had contracts till the end of season 7. The network were doing cost cutting measures so offered them all reduced salaries (not sure how much) to stay on, both Foreman and Wilson were able to come to terms but unfortunately Cuddy wasn't able to.

I suspect in Wilson's case it was due to the actor who plays him enjoying getting paid for little screen time. He's turned other big roles in the past as they would take up to much of his time.

As for Lisa (Cuddy) it could be just a case the reduction in salary plus 7yrs in the show and other options made her mind up to leave.

Not overly devestated if I am honest (which my surprise some people), even the best shows (and house for me was among the very best) have a shelf life and even though I'm not going to overreact and say that it's ever been awful the quality has become patchier since series 5 onwards, though it pains me to say it I'd rather be left with fond memories than watching what is probably going to become an inevitable decline.

Yeah I agree that it's better it stops while reasonably on top. Don't want it turning in to a show that carries on too long (See Scrubs. Another show I loved, but it went too far with the Med School Series.)
