itv coverage
With England on their way home, what sort of coverage will ITV put out there?
The general coverage and commentry has been pants! Who will their pundits be, and who will they be supporting?
Interesting times ahead
p.s. I'm still drunk and it's 6pm - not a good sign

Huw - they'll probably stick with the same pundits in the studio and commentators who've already been covering the remaining teams. I've actually enjoyed Lawrence, Francois and Sean in the studio.

Phil Vickery is the worst commentator on TV bar none. He is inarticulate and sounds like he has cotton wool in his mouth and is trying to shout through it.

i was gutted when i found out itv were broadcasting it.. but i have to agree those three are pretty good. unlike the rest of the itv pundits (excluding the welsh contingent :L) they know actually know far more about the game than me!! tbh i thought that was the point of them

They dropped the Scottish pundits fairly sharpish. Interesting to see if the general interest wanes now that England are gone.
My bet is yes.

Wonder_Man - I'll be supporting Wales funnily enough I really like Francois Pienaar. He knows his stuff and speaks honestly, but complimentary at the same time about all the teams.
The problem with Phil Vickery is that he got too emotionally involved in the England match. He kept shouting and going mad like a fan rather than a TV commentator which was off putting. I was expecting him to swear at one point. He also didn't have much to say constructively about what was going on or the players, so he's a bit of a waste actually.
Alan Quinlan's voice I could listen to him all day.

Jonathan Davies is like that but 10 times worse.Cari wrote:The problem with Phil Vickery is that he got too emotionally involved in the England match. I agree Vickery isn't terribly well suited to commentating though. Lovely chap. Should stick to his clothing range

Re: itv coverage
Here in Wales, for the Welsh games we've had our own show on ITV Wales with studio guests consisting of Gareth Llewellyn, Mike Hall and A N other who changes each week. It's been rubbish, which is unfortunate as we've been moaning about the Anglo-centric coverage of the rest of the tournament, and when we do get Welsh coverage, it lacks that 'stellar cast' feel of the normal ITV coverage. I've been watching the Wales games by flicking between 103 (Wales) and ITV London on Sky (normal ITV coverage). When it's Wales it's good to hear what legends of the game such as Dallaglio, Fitzpatrick and Lynagh think about us rather than the uninsightful ramblings of rather less successful former Wales players. They've been there and done it, and I respect their opinions much more than the welsh boys, who are bound to be nice to their fellow countryman, ad therefore not impartial.

Re: itv coverage
Vickerys commentary was atrocious, to compare Jiffy to that is criminal. At least he can offer some decent analysis. Also, did Phil leave his caps lock on? I think my ears are still ringing.

Re: itv coverage
I've been watching all the Welsh games on S4C, just super coverage with usually fairly impartial commentary, but bless Gwyn Jones, he couldn't contain himself today!
I like the highlights on ITV though for the views of Pienaar, Fitzpatrick etc.

Griff - I've been doing exactly the same thing. The ITV London coverage on SKY is better. BUT better is relative.....it's still crap.

FFS...England out of the competition, two semi-finals to talk about and ITV are doing a post-mortem on England instead??

Yes GG I also thought that was not needed and it's what the English fans don't need either they know what went wrong.

For once I agree with GG. The segment on England was unnecessary to say the least. Much better would have been a preview of the semis, or just a highlights from yesterday, or more on the previous games of the day, or...

Re: itv coverage
They did all those things, but they mention England as well and everyone is outraged. The majority of ITV viewers will be English, and from an English perspective England going out this weekend was the biggest story in the World Cup.
I'll agree England don't need a mention for the rest of the World Cup, but I don't think it's unreasonable to mention them at this stage.

Re: itv coverage
I agree about the Welsh version of ITV coverage - slightly embarrassing, and in-game welsh commentary is a bit of a joke! Yes they know how the game is played but please!
I think neutral commentators would be better (but no Phil Vickery please!)

I agree with this. It was right to talk about England given the size of the English TV audience. That being said, I hope we can have coverage for the rest of the world cup without referring to England every game!

I thought phill viceroy was great yesterday. Possibly drunk, ridiculously chirpy very amusing. A great bloke, usually very astute when interviewed or a guest on scrum v.

10/10 along with Michael Owen as a co commentator - they just fuel the welsh stereotype

Re: itv coverage
On British Broadcasting Corporation radio 5 live had an hour rugby special and spent 50mins talking about England and less than 10 on Wales!
Personally i don't care as annoying as it is,
i think Dallagio is a rubbish pundit who is far to proud to pay respect when due,
Just like in 2007 Will Greenwood kept talking about Johnny and the boys will be watching this,Johnny and the boys will be rubbing their hands now in games that had nothing to do with England.
