Qualifying? what can be done to solve it?
This has been an endless complaint from F1 fans over the coming season with teams choosing to saves tyres rather then going out on track and qualifying.
So what would you do?
So what would you do?

If I recall correctly, the guy from Pirelli said they are looking at producing sets of qualifying tyres for next season, so that all drivers have sets to burn, without compromising their races.
I agree it is a bit of a joke when you have drivers just setting sector times, or not bothering to go out at all and only the top 6 really taking Q3 seriously.

I would give every team 3 sets of qualifying tyres to use for quali. With a choice to use all 3 sets during the quali session (these tyres will last a couple of laps after the sighting lap).
Then you can choose what tyre you want to start a race with, I would keep the rule for using different compounds in a race but they should all be brand spanking new tyres and then the strategies would play a massive role on the spectacle.
That will get rid of the tyre conservation issue at least.

Bonjourno!
How about a best time on prime and a best time on option tyres! Add the times together and job done.
Top 10 teams have to use tyres that they set the best time on.
If you want to use only one set of each then so be it. Plus you open the track up for a whole hour and do away with the flawed shoot out.

@Alessandro:
I think part of the idea behind the quali shootout is to give the fans a bit of extra entertainment.

q2 should stay same but go down to 9th position. then in q3 using the positions the top 8 achieved in q2, have a one lap shootout counting down from 8th position to 1st position. this therefore has action all the time, no issue of none runners as the top 8 should be given an extra set just for this run and avoids this backing up of drivers at the end. thoughts?

if a driver fails to go out in q3, he should be shunted to the back of the grid.
