Haye Retires.
Apologies for another thread, but he has just announced this on Sky Sports News.
He said the Klitschko's have been off with the noises they've been making about being in contact regarding a fight.
Happy retirement David, there were fun times, but ultimately went out with a whimper. A shame, but a very good career nevertheless.

Re: Haye Retires.
As much as I dislike him, and don't really rate him as a person or a boxer; I can't see him retiring perminantly!
His ego is too inflated to let himself be remembered for giving Audley a title shot, and blaming a gutless performance on a poorly little toe!

Careful, Union today has shown he doesn't like anything to do with two guys doing anything together.
And Haye should probably never be allowed to utter a word of arrogance again, i felt like a used dirty whore after taking in his hype pre-Wlad.

Sounds good, although I wouldn't be involved in this particular case as it doesn't involve grammar but use of the wrong word entirely.

Hope his acting career ends up like Joe Calzaghe's supposed one.
Considering the majority of the British public don't like him and almost the whole of the US never liked him. I can't see what he's gonna be much good at.

What next for Haye then? New boyfriend of the aids infected, gaping fannied, non existant bumhole (it just falls out) "woman" called Katie Price?

Just goes to illustrate how low Haye's stock has fallen, a two weight Britis world champion announces his retirement and it causes nothing but a discussion about the proper use of grammar, how the mighty have fallen.

Re: Haye Retires.
If this really is farewell from Haye, it is only fair that a reasonably persistent critic of his should acknowledge that, to paraphrase a great man, nothing in his boxing life became him like the leaving of it. A gracious, dignified retirement statement, devoid of excuses or self-pity.
Would it really have been impossible for him to have earned the same degree of heavyweight fame and fortune while exhibiting a similar measure of classy behaviour?

He still sounds so indignant in his statement -
"Ultimately though Team Klitschko are a business and they rarely take on tough opposition, unless they are forced to."
I really doubt they see him as tough opposition?

You do nothing but slag two people off and then wonder why when they are in a position of power they don't fall over themselves to give you too good a deal. Who'd have thought it.

Fame, no. Fortune, I would say yes. All the "ugly, hairy giant" stuff with Valuev and the classless goading of a gentleman Champion in Wladimir lined Haye's pockets more than he would have had he been a gracious and pleasant human being in the buildup. I don't actually think he is a horrible man, just a cold, calculating businessman who very quickly realised his potential earnings from acting in a deeply unpleasant manner.
He would still have earned heavily, but not to the extent he has in non-fights with Valuev and Harrison and a unconvining tilt at the Champion, had he being the nice, gracious and humble guy he can be on occasions. I would say out of the 10 or so people I watched the Valuev fight with, 8 of them only watched it due to Haye talking the fight up in the manner that he did.

I think you give him too much credit, he is no businessman, he is just a crass and classless individual, whom I for one, will be glad to see the back of!

It's funny the way team Klitschko are looking for another handy number off Haye trying to goad him back. Don't do it David you will only embarrass yourself AGAIN.

Re: Haye Retires.
The basic translation from Haye seems to be that he talked to the Klitschko camp, the contract offered was not lucrative enough, so he will opt to retire instead.
Still not convinced this is much more than a ploy to try and make Vitali up his initial offer though.

Yeah but last I heard from him it was the British people and their lack of support that was forcing Haye to retire. Probably not too much of a stretch to include the Klitschkos in that, especially as they seem to be ducking a rematch also according to his sources.....
Hopefully Lewis can talk Haye out of it. I hear he knows a thing or two about beating a Klitschko......

Re: Haye Retires.
Obvious he wants them to up their offer, otherwise why the indignance?
Personally I hope he retires, his last fight was so boring, let's be honest, he was gifted against Valuev, a decent fighter Haye but nothing special and safety first, fan non-friendly. Said Wlad was running from him but Wlad in all likelihood had never heard of him. Hope Vit retracts his offer, cos this is just free money for Haye. Giving a guy a shot who lost every round of his major title shot! Somebody needs to lead the way. Reform is needed. Meritocracy needs to come back into the system.
Still hasn't proved he's the best of the rest, but worse he's not prepared to do so.

Re: Haye Retires.
Sounds like Lewis actually talked him into retirement. I reckon all that time in Montego Bay (was there any need for Haye to mention where he was staying?) was spent with Lennox saying, "Are you prepared to take some serious punishment from a genuinely hard man? Are you prepared to work like you've never worked before? Are you, more importantly, prepared to accept that you're no longer a big player in the division and be treated as just another challenger? If not, best hang 'em up, son!"
Herman wrote "Giving a guy a shot who lost every round of his major title shot!"
Wasn't it Sam Peter who got another tilt at Wlad after...oh yeah...losing EVERY ROUND against Vitali and quitting on his stool?
Bit of perspective required here fella.

The problem is the Klitschkos are quite literally running out of viable options.
Here are the number 1 contenders in each organisation:
WBC: Chris Arreola - already battered by Vitali
WBA: Haseem Rahman - already battered by Wlad
IBF: Eddie Chambers - knocked out by Wlad
WBO: Robert Hellenius - only 16 pro fights

That was supposed to be Wlad's fight back in America.

Interestingly aswell I should add, Haye is ranked no.2 by the WBA still which means a win over Rahman would all but garauntee him mandatory status vs Wlad/Povetkin. Rahman is ancient now and not that good to begin with so it would be easy for Haye to actually get another title shot.
